ABERRATIONS

Аннотация: Chromosomal mutations were studied in the Norilsk population of Siberian larch (Larix sibirica Ledeb.) growing at the northeastern boundary of the species range affected by airborne smelter emissions. Different types of frequent chromosomal mutations have been revealed in the Norilsk population of L. sibirica and B-chromosomes have been found in this species for the first time.

Аннотация: The karyological data on populations of Siberian fir (Abies sibirica Ledeb.) growing in lowland swamp and dry valleys are given. The diploid set of both populations included 24 chromosomes (2n = 24). Polykaryogram analysis revealed seven pairs of metacentric and five pairs of submetacentric chromosomes. The revealed differences between the populations included the absolute length of chromosomes, number of nucleolar organizer regions, and number of nucleoli. Changed chromosome numbers (mixoploidy and aneuploidy) as well as chromosomal aberrations were recorded. For the first time, mitosis was studied in this species and anaphase/telophase aberrations were revealed. The population of Siberian fir growing under extreme conditions of lowland swamp featured the widest range of mutations.

Siberian stone pine -- bog -- karyotype -- secondary constrictions -- chromosome and genome aberrations

Аннотация: The results of a karyological study on Siberian stone pines growing in the bog demonstrated differences from the populations of this species studied earlier with respect to sizes of chromosomes and location of secondary constrictions. The number of nucleolar organizer regions in the chromosomes of Siberian stone pine trees growing in the bog was larger than in other populations. A wide spectrum of chromosome aberrations was revealed, which had not been observed in this species before. These were genome and chromosome aberrations of various types, as well as structural aberrations accompanied by changes in the number of chromosomes. It is assumed that the aberrations in the karyotype of Siberian stone pine resulted from stressful conditions.

The effect of radionuclide and heavy metal contamination of the Yenisei River on cytogenetics of aquatic plant Elodea canadensis
/ A. Bolsunovsky [et al.] // Radioprotection. - 2009. - Vol. 44, Is. 5. - P83-88, DOI 10.1051/radiopro/20095021 . - ISSN 0033-8451

Аннотация: The study was done to determine concentrations of radionuclides and heavy metals and to evaluate the frequency of chromosomal aberrations in samples of Elodea canadensis, a submerged plant, collected in different parts of the Yenisei River. Samples were collected in the area subjected to radioactive impact of theMining-and-Chemical Combine (MCC) at Zheleznogorsk and in the control areas, upstream of the MCC. The investigations showed that Elodea biomass in the area affected by MCC operation contained a long inventory of artificial radionuclides typical of the MCC discharges. Upstream of the MCC, in the control sampling areas, the sediments and the Elodea biomass contained only one artificial radionuclide - 137Cs. Thus, the exposure doses to Elodea shoots and roots upstream of the MCC are small (not more than 8 ?Gy/d) and the main contribution to them is made by natural radionuclides. At the MCC discharge site (the village of Atamanovo) and downstream of it, the total dose rate increases almost an order of magnitude, reaching its maximal values - 72 ?Gy/d for Elodea shoots and 58 ? Gy/d for roots. Cytogenetic investigations of Elodea roots showed that at the MCC discharge site (the village of Atamanovo) and downstream of it the occurrence of chromosomal aberrations in ana-telophase and metaphase cells of Elodea was considerably higher than in the control area. It is highly probable that this simultaneous dramatic increase in the total exposure rate and the occurrence of chromosomal aberrations in Elodea is associated with the radiation factor. It is suggested that Elodea is affected not only by the radiation factor but also by the chemical factor - toxicity of heavy metals. В© 2009 EDP Sciences.

Specific features of microsporogenesis in the Siberian larch growing under the conditions of technogenic load

Аннотация: Studies of microsporogenesis in the Siberian larch growing in Krasnoyarsk and its suburbs have shown that meiosis starts in October. Microsporocytes winter at prophase I (leptoneme, diploneme). Reduction divisions in male generative buds are resumed and terminated in spring, in March. However, in the case of thaws during the autumn-winter period, meiotic division proceeds in the larch buds and this leads to the formation of degrading tetrads and pollen. Hence, the organic quiescence is absent in the larch in winter. It was shown that in the larch growing in the city, meiosis proceed more asynchronously than in the background tree stands. An increase of chromosomal aberrations during the reduction division was noted under the conditions of technogenic pollution.

Supernumerary (B) Chromosomes in Populations of Picea abies (L.) H. Karst. from Western Rhodopes (Bulgaria)

Аннотация: Investigations on B chromosomes found for the first time for Picea abies (L.) H. Karst. have been conducted. Seeds of Picea abies from two populations of Western Rhodopes (Bulgaria) located at the southern border of species range, and protected according to Bern Convention and EC Habitat Directive were collected for this study. Mixoploidy was detected in some germinating seeds of Picea abies. It was found that metaphase cells of germinating seeds contain 0-4 B chromosomes of both metacentric and submetacentric types. The variability of B chromosomes number and their occurrence was observed. Along with B chromosomes, some chromosome aberrations such as fragments and ring chromosomes were revealed in metaphase cells of Picea abies from studied populations. The possible adaptive role of B chromosomes presence for Picea spp. is discussed.

Chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei induced in onion (Allium cepa) by gamma-radiation
/ A. Bolsunovsky [et al.] // J. Environ. Radioact. - 2019. - Vol. 207. - P1-6, DOI 10.1016/j.jenvrad.2019.05.014 . - ISSN 0265-931X
Аннотация: The Allium-test is commonly used to assess genotoxicity of chemical and physical factors. In the present study, the roots of germinating onion (Allium cepa) were exposed to 0.02–13 Gy of ?-radiation. The dose dependencies of the frequency of chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei were nonlinear. An increase in the frequency of chromosomal aberrations in germinating seed root cells was first found under exposure to low doses of ?-radiation (0.05 and 0.1 Gy). Micronuclei inductions at low doses of radiation were not significantly different from the control. Our study suggests that germinating onion seed roots are a sensitive bioassay material for assessing the genotoxic effects of low-dose ?-radiation. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

The results of a karyological study of a peripheral isolated population of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) growing in the Shirinskaya steppe of Khakassia are presented. In the seed progeny of trees, disturbances of the number of chromosomes (myxoploidy) and a wide range of chromosomal rearrangements, including unique multiple aberrations, were revealed. For the first time at the population level, the highest occurrence of genomic and chromosomal rearrangements for this species was diagnosed. In fact, all seed progeny of the studied Scots pine population is mutant, which indicates probable adaptive changes in genotypes under isolation.
