    Integrated approach to monitoring of the Siberian moth population density

Аннотация: The Siberian moth (SM), is the most destructive defoliator of conifers in Northern Asia. It could have a serious impact on native forests. The present day monitoring methods of SM populations density, based on trees shaking for larve sampling, are labor-intensive, expensive and require an optimization. Although larve sampling is an extremely expensive procedure, only its' results may be a basis for presribed insecticide spraying of pest population.

Аннотация: iBiological productive capacity of Siberian woodlands is much higher than their recent economic output. Stable and effective forest management could be achieved by an integration of direct wood utilization with other types of exploitation. Recent data enable to forecast the volume of recources with regad to natural or anthropogenic turnover of forest ecosystems. It is suggested that separation of data on the resource itself from the information on socio-economic aspects of its utilization hinders to set up an effective control over forest resources.

Аннотация: The heat release intensity on the forest fireline is the important wildfire characteristic. The energy parametersof large wildfires detected in the several regions of Eastern Siberia in 2006-2009 were estimated using MODIS data. The dynamics of wildfires release rate was analyzed in relation to weather conditions.

Аннотация: We defined catastrophic fire as a single high-severity fire that covers more than 10,000 ha and results in total consumption of litter, and humus layers and high tree mortality, or the simultaneous occurrence of several high-severity fires in a given region with a total area exceeding 10,000 km2. Fires on this scale can cause substantial economic, social and environmental effects, with regional to global impacts.

Аннотация: ZAPAS investigates and cross validates methodologies using both Russian and European Earth observation data to develop procedures and products for forest resource assessment and monitoring. Earth observation data include ENVISAT MERIS and ASAR in different acquisition modes, METEOR-M and RESURS-DKI. The methodologies include state-of-the-art optical and radar retrieval algorithms as well as investigation of innovative synergistic approaches. Products include biomass change maps for the years 2007-2008-2009 on a local scale, a biomass and improved land cover map on the regional scale, and a 1 km land cover map as input to carbon accounting model.

Аннотация: Topo-ecological profile through the central part of Long ridge is described in 2006-2011. It demonstrates a complex pattern of spatial dastribution of the forest and steppe patches on the southern slope of the ridge. At about 320 m alt. abundant pine regeneration was found in surrounding of meadow-steppe. At about 460 m alt. on the northern sloppe some patches of sparse fir regeneration were revealed. The data are interesting for long-term monitoring of current state and dynamics of forest-steppe ecotone vegetation.

Аннотация: In this study we present the analysis of meteorological data obtained during 2 years of measurements at ZOTTO observatory. It was found that continental polar air dominates in study area and results in the strong radiation cooling in winter time. The microclimatic features showed the continental conditions in the region. The wind rose demonstrated South-East wind direction as dominating which could be associated with influence of the Siberian High. Due to relatively high homogeneity of landscape in study region the analyzed data set of meteorological variables is valid for the tall tower footprint and will be used for further study of GHG's behavior over Central Siberian forest ecosystems.

Аннотация: This paper studies the structure and dynamics of the major pools of organic matter in clearings in the lichen pine forests of the middle taiga subzone of Yenisei Siberia, in the range of measurements of the international observatory Zotto, a high-tech research platform for long-term ( 30 years) monitoring of the atmosphere and climate changes. The contribution of phytocenoses at different stages of post-clearing succession in the process of deposition of atmospheric carbon is analyzed. In conjunction with the data on atmospheric measurements of a wide range of greenhouse gases carried out at the base of the observatory, the results of this work will be used for modeling the stocks and flows of carbon in forest ecosystems of Central Siberia.
