Soil and canopy CO2, 13CO2, H2O and sensible heat flux partitions in a forest canopy inferred from concentration measurements
/ J.M. Styles et al, O. Shibistova // Tellus. Series B: Chemical and physical meteorology. - 2002. - Vol. 54B, № 5. - С. 655-676

Аннотация: A canopy scale model is presented that utilises Lagrangian dispersal theory to describe the relationship between source distribution and concentration within the canopy. The present study differs from previous studies in three ways: (1) source/sink distributions are solved simultaneously for CO2, (CO2)-C-13, H2O and sensible heat to find a solution consistent with leaf-level constraints imposed by photosynthetic capacity, stomatal and boundary layer conductance, available energy and carbon isotopic discrimination during diffusion and carboxylation; (2) the model is used to solve for parameters controlling the nonlinear source interactions rather than the sources themselves; and (3) this study used plant physiological principles to allow the incorporation of within- and above-canopy measurements of the C-13/C-12 ratios Of CO2 as an additional constraint. Source strengths Of CO2, H2O, sensible heat and (CO2)-C-13 within a Siberian mixed-coniferous forest were constrained by biochemical and energy-balance principles applied to sun and shaded leaves throughout the canopy. Parameters relating to maximum photosynthetic capacity, stomatal conductance, radiation penetration and turbulence structure were determined by the optimisation procedure to match modelled and measured concentration profiles, effectively inverting the concentration data. Ground fluxes Of CO2, H2O and sensible heat were also determined by the inversion. Total ecosystem fluxes predicted from the inversion were compared to hourly averaged above-canopy eddy covariance measurements over a ten-day period, with good agreement. Model results showed that stomatal conductance and maximum photosynthetic capacity were depressed due to the low temperatures experienced during snow melt; radiation penetrated further than simple theoretical predictions because of leaf clumping and penumbra, and stability effects were important in the morning and evening. The inversion was limited by little vertical structure in the concentration profiles, particularly of water vapour, and by co-dependence of canopy parameters.

Аннотация: The problems of valuation of forest resources in Kyrgystan are shortly discussed. The woodlands which possess sorces of row materials of social and economic priority are maintained by local populations under the conditions of traditional forest utilization/ The prevalence of exploitatioin of side, not wood resources is the special feature of forestry in Kyrgystan. The suggestion is that the elaboration of special criteria for estimation of forest typological variation is urgenly required.

Аннотация: The approach to the estimation of mountain forest ecosystems in Altai-Sayan ecoregion is developed using bioclimatic classification of altitudinal belt complexes (abc) of forest types. The main characteristics and distribution of climate facies (groups of cyclonic and anticyclonic regions) are presented. The data base on biodiversity, climate and soils is added with new remote sensing data. The approach is aimed to find the optimal balance between different ways of multiple forest management keeping high environmental and social function of ecosystems and biogeocoenoses.

Аннотация: The microbial activity of peat soils was studied in boggy larch forests and in an oligo-mesotrophic bog in the basins of the Kochechum and Nizhnaya Tunguska rivers (central Evenkia). It was found that the organic matter transformation in the peat soils of all the plots is mainly performed by oligotrophic bacteria composing 88-98% of the total bacterial complex. The major contribution to the organic matter destruction belonged to the heterotrophic microorganisms, the activity of which depended on the permafrost depth and the soil temperature, the soil acidity, and the botanical composition of the peat. Peat soils were characterized by different activities as judged from their microbiological and biochemical parameters. The functioning of microbial communities in the studied ecotopes of the permafrost zone was within the range of natural variations, which pointed to their ecological stability.

Аннотация: The thermal degradation of organic matter was studied in cryogenic soils with methods of thermal analysis: differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry (DSC and TG, respectively). The DSC curves of most of the samples within the temperature range from 221-247A degrees C to 600A degrees C were characterized by the presence of one wide exothermic peak (at 311-373A degrees C) with a shoulder (or without it) on the descending branch at a temperature of about 400A degrees C. This was connected mostly with the destruction of thermolabile compounds (oligo- and polysaccharides) and with the oxidation of low-aromatic complexes of plant residues and humus substances. Two exothermic peaks at 337-373A degrees C and 448-492A degrees C were found for some samples from the organic horizons. The high-temperature peaks were caused by the thermal destruction of lignin. The fraction of the thermolabile organic matter of the soil (237-261aEuro broken vertical bar 331-377A degrees C) reached 59-73% in the organic and 52-59% in the organomineral and mineral horizons.

The influence of heating on organic matter of forest litters and soils under experimental conditions

Аннотация: The specific features of changes in the content and mobility of organic matter in litters and cryogenic soils under heating were revealed. The thermal stability of the organic matter and litters is different. In the soils, the maximal loss of matter was recorded at a temperature of 300 degrees C. In the litters, the maximal losses were found at 300, 400 and 550 degrees C and depended inversely on the carbon content in them. The heating to 200 degrees C caused insignificant changes in the mass of the litters and soils but increased the content of the water-soluble fraction of organic matter and the concentration of the water-soluble mineral nitrogen forms.

Аннотация: The influence of recreation activity on grass cover was studied in a herbaceous birch forest within a territory of city development. Effects of the activity depended on size and arrangement of recreation sites. It was found that most of the forest was at the second stage of degradation, while degradation of forest edges was considered as intermediate between the second and third stages. Forest edges and glade-clump communities play a particular role in maintaining the stability of recreational forests. These ecotones are both barriers preventing introduction of alien plant species into a cenosis and centers of dissemination of ruderal and meadow species.

Аннотация: Water solutions of fluorine and sulfur-containing salts of sodium-NaF, Na(2)SO(3), and NaF + Na(2)SO(3) (30, 150, and 300 MPC, respectively)-and salts of heavy metals-(Cu(NO(3))(2) center dot 3H(2)O, NiSO(4), and Pb(NO(3))(2) (10, 25, and 50 MPC, respectively)-were applied as pollutants to dark gray forest soils of experimental plots (1 m(2)) in Siberian larch (Larix sibirica Ledeb.) plantations once per growing period. The soil samples for the determination of the microbial biomass, respiration, and enzymatic activity (urease, protease, invertase, and catalase) were taken from the mineral soil layer (0-5 cm) at the beginning of the growing seasons before the application of the pollutants then in 14- to 18-day intervals every month. The fluorine and sulfur-containing compounds applied activated the respiration, lowered the enzymatic activity of the microorganisms, and decreased the microbial biomass by 1.3-2.2 times in the soils of the test plots as compared to the control one. The single application of Cu, Ni, and Pb increased the microbial biomass, while the changes in the basal respiration were compatible with its natural variability. Two months after the beginning of the experiment, all the parameters characterizing the functioning of the soil microbocenoses were restored.

Аннотация: The analysis of the anatomical characteristics of tree rings of the Pinus sibirica scions and Pinus sylvestris rootstocks is presented. The main anatomical features maintain the seasonal dynamics characteristic of the reference (ungrafted) trees of scion and rootstock, pointing to the stability of the genetic control of the xylem differentiation. However, various anatomical characteristics are reduced for rootstocks and increased for scions relative to the reference trees. A mechanism consistent with our results is that the graft union zone creates a barrier for the ascending and descending transport of substances, including phytohormones. The reaction of the scion and rootstock to climatic factors is weakened relative to the reaction of the reference trees. Thus, the presumed shift towards phytohormone disbalance reduces the influence of external factors on xylem differentiation. The interannual variation of the individual characteristics of the scions and rootstocks is increased relative to the reference trees, reflecting either the influence of the graft partners on each other or the non-uniform distribution of the growth regulators across the graft union. Thus, heterografts can be used to evaluate the interaction of the internal and external mechanisms of xylem differentiation.

Аннотация: A quantum-chemical study has been made of the interactions of pheromones of some lepidopteran forest pests (Siberian moth Dendrolimus superans sibiricus Tschetv and gypsy moth Limantria dispar L.) with components of the ambient air, as well as the effect of electromagnetic radiation on the pheromones. It is found that the reactions of pheromones with substances contained in the forest air are irreversible and proceed with liberation of heat. Electromagnetic radiation quite strongly affects the structure of pheromones, whereby the pheromone molecule is activated and can readily enter into reactions. В© 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Converting leguminous green manure into biochar: Changes in chemical composition and C and N mineralization
/ C. -P. Chen [et al.] // Geoderma. - 2014. - Vol. 232-234. - P581-588, DOI 10.1016/j.geoderma.2014.06.021 . - ISSN 0016-7061
Аннотация: Leguminous green manure is an important source of nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) in cropping systems. The fast turnover of leguminous green manure enables it to release N quickly, but limits its effectiveness in maintaining soil organic C content. Converting leguminous green manure into biochar facilitates its use as a soil amendment. In this study, we assessed how the conversion of leguminous green manure (Sesbania roxburghii) into biochar altered its chemical composition and subsequent C and N mineralization. Biomass was charred along a temperature gradient from 200 to 500. °C. Using nuclear magnetic resonance and near-edge X-ray adsorption fine structure spectroscopy, we found that both C and N became enriched in aromatic and heterocyclic aromatic structures in biochar, and this structural change led to a reduction in C and N mineralization rates. The mineralized C decreased from 32.7% of the added C of raw biomass to <. 0.5% of that of biochar at charring temperatures above 400. °C. N release shifted from N mineralization in raw biomass to N immobilization at charring temperatures at 500. °C. As such, soil amended with biochar produced at charring temperatures exceeding 400. °C demonstrated a 25% decrease in dry shoot biomass compared with unamended soil. The results indicated that the C stability of leguminous green manure can be achieved by converting raw material into biochar, but that the charring process may limit it to providing N. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: The objective of this study was to obtain a genetically stable haploid in vitro-derived line from Siberian larch (Larix sibirica Ledeb.) using megagametophyte explants, which then could be used for different molecular genetic studies, including whole genome de novo sequencing. However, cytogenetic analysis and genotyping of 11 microsatellite loci showed high levels of genomic instability and a high frequency of mutation in the obtained megagametophyte-derived callus cultures. All cultures contained new mutations in one or more microsatellite loci.

Population dynamics and stability of forest insects with low density (using the example of populations of the bordered white Bupalus piniarius L.)
/ A. S. Isaev [et al.] // Contemp. Probl. Ecol. - 2015. - Vol. 7, Is. 7. - P733-742, DOI 10.1134/S1995425514070051 . - ISSN 1995-4255

Аннотация: The abundance dynamics of different populations with the bordered white Bupalus piniarius L. has been analyzed. It has been demonstrated that the populations of B. piniarius in different habitats at the territory of Europe and the Asian part of Russia have cyclic oscillations in their density when in a stable-sparse state. A mathematical model describing regulatory processes in the population of B. piniarius in a stable-sparse state has been proposed.
