Аннотация: Surface soils (organic layer and 0-10 cm mineral soil) from larch forests, Central Siberia, had small pool size of soil inorganic N, while higher values can be observed especially in organic layer in N fertilized sites. Annual leachate of inorganic N was also small before N fertilization, while greater values were observed beneath organic layer in high N site after fertilization. Thus, N treatment seems to stimulate inorganic N dynamics of soil surface, and it may consequently lead to stimulation of lower soils. Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) was the most important N form constantly supplying dissolved N to soil circumstances in this site, suggesting a possibility of organic N to control on ecosystem processes in these forests.

Biochemistry of carbon and nitrogen in the Siberian Afforestation Experiment
: материалы временных коллективов / E. F. Vedrova // Tree species effects on soils: implications for global change. - 2005. - С. 281-292. - Библиогр. в конце ст.

Аннотация: We evaluated parameters (stock and flux) carbon, nitrogen and ash element cycling in the plant-soil system. The study was performed in arolla pine, Scots pine, Siberian larch, Norway spruce, aspen and birch plantations established on Kemchug upland, Chulym-Yenisei denudational plain, in 1968-1972. Young ecosystems (age class 2) that have developed under relatively similar environmental conditions have thus accumulated different amounts of organic and mineral matter in biomass and detritus, mainly due to differences in major woody species characteristics. All ecosystems are a net atmosperic carbon sink, with a pooling rate of 1.81-4.43 t C ha -1 yr -1. The sink (NEP) is made up by C accumulation in stand biomass production, vegetation detritus, and soil humus and accounts for 46-76% of the total C allocated in annual increment; the main componentt is net C flux to biomass. The rate of N-min flux from soil pool to NPP is in fact in balance with that soil N-min accumulation in the arolla pine, larch, spruce, and birch plots. In addition, the ecosystems are characterized by a transitional cycling regime evident through non-balanced controlling organic and mineral matter stored in "plant-soil" system blocks.

Аннотация: The forest floor (O horizon) is a major pool of organic matter in many forests, comprised of a wide range of materials that vary in chemistry and morphology. The processing of fresh detritus progresses with gradual degradation under the influence of biotic and abiotic factors, leading to decreasing particle size and carbon:nitrogen ratios. The carbon contained in annual litterfall inputs equaled 20- 26% of the totral forest floor C content in conifer plots, compared with 48 to 55% in the aspen and birch plots. This material remains in the O1 layer for 2 to 12 months. The Of layer comprises 47 to 85% of the total C content of the forest floor, with residence times of 0.5 to 5 years.

Nitrogen dynamics in leaves of deciduous broad-leaved tree seedlings grown in summer green forests in Northern Japan
: материалы временных коллективов / K. Takayoshi, K. Satoshi, O. V. Masyagina // Eurasian Journal of Forest Research. - 2007. - Vol. 10-1. - С. 115-119. - Библиогр. в конце ст.

Аннотация: Dynamics of nitrogen in leaves of trees and seedlings of deciduous broad-leaf species were studied for improving forest management. The photosynthetic traits of canopy leaves of diciduous broad-leaved trees were measured using a canopy tower. There was a clear positive correlation between leaf nitrogen content and light saturated photosynthetic rate at sunny canopy. As reflecting the shoot development pattern, leaf senescence began from the inner part of the crown in early successional species, by contrast leaf senescence process commences from either the outer or top portion of the crown in late successional species. For regenerated seedlings in forest floor, seasonal change in the allocation pattern of leaf nitrogen coincided with the changing of light conditions through the leaf phenology of upper canopy. In light limited condition, nitrogen was allocated to chlorophyll while it allocated to more to photosynthetic carbon fixation, i.e. Rubisco in strong light condition. Nitrogen allocated was affected more by light to CO2 condition that was found in birch and beech seedlings with a FACE system.

Influence of drying of the samples on the transformation of nitrogen and carbon compounds in mountain-meadow alpine soils
/ M. I. Makarov [et al.] // Eurasian Soil Sci. - 2013. - Vol. 46, Is. 7. - P778-787, DOI 10.1134/S1064229313070053. - Cited References: 32. - This study was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project no. 10-04-00780). . - 10. - ISSN 1064-2293

Аннотация: The drying of samples of mountain-meadow soils characterized by their permanently high moisture under natural conditions fundamentally changes the concentrations of the labile nitrogen and carbon compounds, as well as the patterns of their microbial transformation. When the soil samples are dried, a four- to fivefold increase in the content of the extractable organic nitrogen compounds, carbon compounds, and inorganic nitrogen compounds is observed, while the content of nitrogen and carbon of the microbial biomass decreases by two-three times. The rewetting of the dried soil launches the process of the replenishment of the nitrogen and carbon reserves in the microbial biomass. However, even after two weeks of incubation, their values were 1.5-2 times lower than the initial values typical of the natural soil. The restoration of the microbial community in the samples of the previously dried soils occurs in the absence of a deficiency of labile organic compounds and is accompanied by their active mineralization and the low uptake of ammonium nitrogen by the microorganisms.

Аннотация: The general pattern of the changes in the solubility of the labile carbon and nitrogen compounds with the changes in the concentration of the salt extractant (0.05 and 0.5 M K2SO4) has been determined for soils differing in their acidity and in their contents of organic matter and nitrogen. Different forms of extracted compounds react differently to changes in the salt concentration. The solubility of inorganic nitrogen compounds (and) does not depend on the concentration of K2SO4. In most cases, the carbon and nitrogen of the microbial biomass manifest a tendency for increasing extractability with an increase in the concentration of the K2SO4 solution. A fundamental difference is characteristic of the organic carbon and nitrogen compounds, the solubility of which in 0.5 M K2SO4 increases in different soils by 1.5-3.9 times in comparison with their solubility in 0.05 M K2SO4.

Abies sibirica Ledeb. -- germinating capacity -- nitrogen content -- grades of tree growth and development

Аннотация: The sowing qualities of the seeds of Abies sibirica Ledeb. from trees of I to V Kraft grades and the total content of nitrogen in the seeds were determined. The best qualities are found in the seeds taken from the middle part of the cones growing in the upper part of crowns of trees of I and II Kraft grades. The nitrogen content in the seeds varies within the range 2.7-3.46 mg/g and depends on the growth and development of the trees. The correlation between these characteristics was found to be 0.81-0.94.

Аннотация: The symbiotic fixation of atmospheric nitrogen by leguminous plants in the alpine community of a lichen heath at the Teberda State Biosphere Reserve is well adapted to low soil temperature characteristic for the altitude of 2800 m a.s.l. For the determination of the N fixation by isotopic methods (the method of the natural (15)N abundance and the method of isotopic (15)N dilution), Trifolium polyphyllum was taken as the control plant. This plant was used as it does not form symbiosis with the nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the highlands of the Northern Caucasus Region. The contribution of the N fixation to the N nutrition of different leguminous plant species as determined by the natural (15)N abundance method amounted to 28-73% at delta(15)N(0) = 0aEuro degrees and 46-117% at delta(15)N(0) = -1aEuro degrees; for the determination of the N fixation by the method of the isotopic label's dilution, it was 34-97%. The best correlation of the results obtained by these two isotopic methods was observed for the natural fractionation of the N isotopes in the course of the N fixation in the range of -0.5 to -0.7aEuro degrees. The determination of the nitrogenase activity of the roots by the acetylene method confirmed the absence of N fixation in T. polyphyllum and its different contribution to the N nutrition of different species of leguminous plants.

Аннотация: To evaluate the effects of forest fire and post-fire stand recovery on the organic layer chemistry and solute release within mound and trough microrelief elements (termed earth hummock microtopography) that mainly distribute permafrost affected area, we chose five fire plots (larch forests burned in 1951, 1981, 1990, 1994 and 2005) paired with adjacent control plots in mature larch forests in Central Siberian permafrost terrain. We determined total carbon, nitrogen and ash content in solid organic soils, and analyzed total carbon, nitrogen, bases and major anions in water extracts. There was a significant correlation between water-extracted organic carbon (WEOC) and total carbon (kg m(-2)) in area basis, implying that the quantity of total carbon was a major factor in WEOC production. WEOC correlated negatively with pH, indicating strong control by organic horizons (organic solute leaching) on soil acidity and base cation dynamics. The sum of water extractable base cations was also correlated significantly to total carbon, indicating that cations can be released through organic matter decomposition. Organic horizons in troughs in burned plots released greater amounts of Ca, Mg and K than those in mounds, probably due to greater content of organic matter as a cation source. Anions including nitrate and phosphate and WEOC also accumulated in trough depressions, due probably to organic matter degradation. The contrasting distribution of solutes between mounds and troughs in burned plots seems to be controlled by organic horizon development via changes in microtopography after forest fires. Аннотация: The peculiarities of organic carbon water soluble fraction content in the litters and soil profile in burned forests of different age under the cryolithozone conditions have been revealed. It has been shown that surface fires cause a decrease in the content of water-extractable organic carbon (WEOC) in the litters and upper 5 cm deep layer of soil. At the same time in microelevations these differences are more pronounced and the WEOC content in the upper organogenic horizons in burnt-out places is 2 times lower. In the deeper soil horizons there have been no differences detected in the WEOC content between intact plantations and postpyrogenic areas.

Аннотация: The postfire transformation of the functional activity of the microbial cenoses and the main soil properties under mixed larch forests were studied in the lower reaches of the Angara River. It was shown that the intensity of the postfire changes in the population density, biomass, and activity of the microorganisms in the dark podzolized brown forest soil depended on the degree of burning of the ground cover and the surface litter during the fire. The maximum effects of the fire on the microbial cenoses were observed in the litter and the upper 5-cm-thick layer of the dark-humus horizon in the areas of intense burning. The postfire restoration of the structural-functional activity of the microbial cenoses was determined by the degree of transformation of soil properties and by the postpyrogenic succession in the ground cover. The microbial complexes of the dark podzolized brown forest soils under mixed larch forests in the studied region restored their functional activity after the fires of different intensities quicker than the microbial cenoses of the sandy podzols in the pyrogenic lichen-green-moss pine forests of the same zone.

Аннотация: The agrochemical properties and microbiological activity of the soils on dump rocks of different ages and degrees of cultivation in the area of the Borodinsk coal strip mine were studied. The technogenic soils of the dumps significantly differed from the native soils in their total nitrogen content. In the young soils (less than 5 years old), the total nitrogen was present in trace amounts; in the 20-year-old dumps, its content was lower than in the control soils by 2.5 times. It was found that a humus horizon 2-3 cm thick was formed on the surface of the dumps after 20 years regardless of the reclamation practice and that the intensity of the biological processes was comparable to that in the control soils, because the microbial complexes functioned under conditions typical for automorphic soils. It was shown that the ecophysiological status of the 3- to 10-year-old soils was unstable and their microbocenoses were at the development stage.
