Аннотация: PbFeBO4 single crystals up to 4x2.5x0.5 mm3 in size were grown by spontaneous crystallization from a solution in a melt and their magnetic and dielectric properties were investigated. The high Neel temperature TN=114 K and the absence of the broad maximum of susceptibility above the Neel temperature suggest that the PbFeBO4 crystal is a three-dimensional antiferromagnet. The magnetic susceptibility anisotropy in the ordered state indicates that the antiferromagnetic vector is directed along the orthorhombic c axis. The anomalies of dielectric permittivities ε' and ε″ were observed in both polycrystalline and single-crystal samples within thetemperature ranges where the short-and long-range magnetic orders are established. This confirms the correlation between the magnetic and electric subsystems in the crystal.

Аннотация: The structural, magnetic, and thermophysical properties of cation-substituted sulfides GdXMn1-XS (0.04 ? X ? 0.25) with the NaCl-type face-centered cubic lattice have been investigated. The range of existence of long-range antiferromagnetic order has been established. The anomalies observed in the temperature dependence of the specific heat correspond to the temperatures of the magnetic phase transition. The anomaly in the specific heat caused by electron transitions between the 4f levels and d band states has been observed. It has been found that the coefficient of thermal expansion decreases with increasing concentration of substituents in the magnetically ordered region and remains nearly invariable in the paramagnetic phase.     Ground State Properties of Antiferromagnetic Sm0.5Nd0.5Fe3(BO3)4
/ C. S. Nelson, Lobo R.P.S.M., Bezmaternykh L.N. // Bulletin of the American Physical Society. - 2012. - Vol. 57, № 1 . - P. 316

Аннотация: We report x-ray scattering and polarized infrared reflectivity measurements of the substituted ferroborate Sm 0.5 Nd 0.5 Fe 3 (BO 3 ) 4 . Below T N = 33 K, a new set of commensurate peaks with resonant enhancements at the rare earth L edges indicates a doubling of the magnetic structure along the c-axis and simultaneous ordering of the rare earth and iron ions. Rare earth spin polarizations decrease rapidly with increasing temperature, in contrast to that of the iron ions. Shell-specific measurements of the rare earth spin polarizations indicate similar behaviors of the Sm and Nd 5d states, while the Sm 4f and 5d states have different temperature dependences. Along the c-axis we observe negative thermal expansion below ∼ 75 K and a strong phonon softening from room temperature down to T N , at which it freezes in frequency. Also at T N we observe the appearance of an electromagnon in the ab-plane that gets its spectral weight from the lowest frequency phonon. These results indicate a lattice instability linked to magnetism with a strong coupling between magnetic and elastic properties.

Аннотация: For the spin-fermion model, it has been shown that the concept of spin polarons makes it possible to reproduce fine details of the Fermi surface evolution in the nodal direction of La2-xSrxCuO4 occurring with changes in the doping level x. The physics here is determined by the spin-correlated hopping of charge carriers and by the doping dependence of the inverse magnetic correlation length. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: Characteristics of the superconducting and antiferromagnetic phases of heavy-fermion intermet-allides are described within a periodic Anderson model with allowance for the superexchange interaction between spin moments of the localized states. It is shown that an external pressure that changes the seed energy of an impurity level can rapidly destroy the long-range antiferromagnetic order. The development of the Cooper instability near such an order-disorder transition induces the experimentally observed state in which superconductivity coexists with the antiferromagnetic ordering. Аннотация: It is shown using the 2D Emery model that the strong coupling between the spin subsystem of copper ions in the singlet state and the subsystem of oxygen holes considerably reduces the spectral intensity of the correlation function for holes on the Fermi contour. Spin-charge correlations are manifested in the existence of two channels. The first channel is due to the p-d exchange coupling of spins of the oxygen and copper holes. The second channel appears as a result of spin-correlated hoppings, when the motion of holes over oxygen ions is accompanied by spin-flip processes (i.e., simultaneous changes in the spin projections of an oxygen hole and a copper ion). It is established as a result of self-consistent calculations that the allowance for the concentration dependence of spin correlators and multicenter spin-charge correlators appearing in the dispersion equation ensures a decrease in the energy of the system and considerably affects the evolution of the Fermi surface under hole doping.

Аннотация: The magnetic properties of the superparamagnetic ferrihydrite nanoparticles that form as a result of the vital activity of Klebsiella oxytoca bacteria are studied. Both an initial powder with an average number of iron atoms N Fe ∼ 2000–2500 in a particle and this powder after annealing at 140°C for 3 h in air are investigated. The following substantial modifications of the magnetic properties of the ferrihydrite nanoparticles are detected after annealing: the superparamagnetic blocking temperature increases from 23 to 49.5 K, and the average magnetic moment of a particle increases (as follows from the results of processing of magnetization curves). The particles have antiferromagnetic ordering, and the magnetic moment resulting in the superparamagnetism of the system appears due to random spin decompensation inside the particle. For this mechanism, the number of uncompensated spins is proportional to the number of magnetically active atoms raised to the one-half power, and this relation holds true for the samples under study at a good accuracy. The possible causes of the detected shift of magnetic hysteresis loops at low temperatures upon field cooling are discussed.

Аннотация: Anisotropy mechanisms in compounds with S-state ions are discussed, including the 'single-ion' exchange mechanism that was developed theoretically by Nikiforov and coworkers based on the two-ion model and which has only recently received detailed experimental study. Results demonstrating the significant role of the 'single-ion' source are presented. An independent generalized method for quantitatively describing and predicting the anisotropy of magnetically ordered crystals is discussed, and its potential for the investigation of the BiFeO3 multiferroic in the region of the existence of a spin cycloid is examined. The anisotropic interactions responsible for the formation of nanostructures in the form of spin vortices (skyrmions) in MnSi and Cu2OSeO3 are analyzed.

Аннотация: The effect of replacing Nd3+ ions with Dy3+ ions on the resonance properties of Nd0.75Dy0.25Fe3(BO3)(4) is studied. The antiferromagnetic resonance (AFMR) method is used to detect an easy axis-easy plane magnetic spin-reorientation phase transition owing to competing exchange interactions of Nd-Fe and Dy-Fe, and the frequency-field dependence of the AFMR spectrum before and after the phase transition is studied. At 4.2 K, the detected resonance spectra in the H parallel to c direction are AFMR modes of iron, and their frequency-field dependences correspond to easy-axis (H 15 kOe) and easy-plane (H 16 kOe) magnetic structures with magnon excitation energy gaps of 77.2 and 100.3 GHz, respectively. The effective magnetic anisotropies responsible for these gaps are 0.7 and 1.2 kOe, respectively. Substitution by Dy3+ ions in crystalline Nd0.75Dy0.25Fe3(BO3)(4) in the paramagnetic region produces an additional static internal field owing to polarization, which leads to a shift in the resonance field of the EPR absorption line and a change in the g-factor of the Fe3+ ions. Аннотация: The magnetic resonance and field dependence of magnetization were studied in a single crystal of TbFe3(BO3)(4) at temperatures from 2 to 13K and frequencies from 18 to 142 GHz. Two pairs of lines with different intensities were found in the EPR spectrum. The found lines can be assigned to two types of centers: the Tb3+ ions which neighbor with the Bi and Mo growth impurities. The initial splitting of the lowest quasi-doublet of such Tb3+ ions by the crystal field and exchange field acting on the rare-earth ions from the iron sublattices were determined. The amount of these centers was estimated. (C) 2013 American Institute of Physics. [http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4792134]

Аннотация: Magnetic control of the crystal chirality was announced by Saito et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, (2008)] on the ground of experiments in CuB2O4. This claim has raised a sharp dispute in the literature because it seemed to contradict the fundamental symmetry principles. We settle this dispute on the basis of a high-resolution optical spectroscopy study of excitonic transitions in CuB2O4. We find that a large sublattice-sensitive antiferromagnetic linear dichroism (LD) emerges at the Néel temperature TN=21 K and show how it could simulate a “magnetic-field control of the crystal chirality.” We prove that the discovered LD is related microscopically to the magnetic Davydov splitting. This LD is highly sensitive to subtle changes in the spin subsystems, which allowed us to observe a splitting of the phase transition into an incommensurate magnetic phase into two transitions (T∗1=8.5 and T∗2=7.9 K) and to suggest elliptical spiral structures below T∗1, instead of a simple circular helix proposed earlier.
О магнитном контроле кристаллической хиральности сообщил Сайто и др. [Phys. Rev. Lett.

An effective temperature-dependent scattering matrix for a localized subsystem is obtained in the periodic Anderson model by summing itinerant variables in the diagrammatic series of perturbation theory. The effective interaction that occurs in this case can lead to an antiferromagnetic phase, a superconducting phase, and the phase of coexisting superconductivity and antiferromagnetism observed in heavy-fermion intermetallic compounds. © 2015, Allerton Press, Inc.
