Аннотация: The single crystal needle shape samples of diamagnetically diluted cobalt ludwigite CoMgGaO2BO3 have been grown by the flux method. The results of x-ray diffraction and both dc and ac magnetic measurements are presented. The unit cell volume undergoes a noticable growth under dilution from 328.31 Å3 for the parent compound Co3O2BO3 to 345.46 Å3 for CoMgGaO2BO3. The temperature of magnetic transition is considerably lower for the latter compound (25 K against 43 Kfor Co3O2BO3). The dc magnetization temperature dependencies undergo the splitting of field cooled and zero-field cooled regimes and the ac magnetic susceptibility temperature dependencies are frequency dependent pointing out a possible spin-glass freezing in the magnetic system.

Аннотация: The needle shape single crystals Co3−x MnxO2BO3 with ludwigite structure have been prepared. According to the X-ray diffraction data the preferable character of distinct crystallographic positions occupation by Mn ions is established. Magnetization field and temperature dependencies are measured. Paramagnetic Curie temperature value Θ=−100 K points out the predominance of antiferromagnetic interactions. Spin-glass magnetic ordering takes the onset at TN=41 K. The crystallographic and magnetic properties of Co3O2BO3:Mn are compared with the same for the isostructural analogs Co3O2BO3 and CoO2BO3:Fe.

Аннотация: A comparative multitechnique study (including transmission electron microscopy, synchrotron radiation, static magnetisation, magnetic circular dichroism and electron magnetic resonance) has been carried out of nanoparticle-containing borate glasses of two different types: (i) with iron and manganese oxide additives and (ii) with iron and rare earth oxide additives. Due to the presence of magnetic nanoparticles, these glasses have a nonlinear magnetic field dependence of magnetization with hysteresis and saturation while remaining transparent in the visible and near-infrared spectral ranges. The nature of the nanoparticles has been identified as manganese ferrite for type (i) glasses and maghemite for type (ii) glasses. The synchrotron radiation studies as well as the computer-assisted electron magnetic resonance provide an insight into the morphological characteristics of the magnetic nanoparticles in the glass.

Аннотация: Static magnetization (SM), magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and electron magnetic resonance (EMR) studies are reported of borate glasses 22.5 K 2O-22.5 Al 2O 3-55 B 2O 3 co-doped with iron and manganese oxides. In as-prepared glasses the paramagnetic ions usually are in diluted state; however, if the ratio of the iron and manganese oxides in the charge is 3/2, magnetic nanoparticles are found already in as-prepared glass. After additional thermal treatment all glasses show magnetic behaviour, MCD and EMR due to the presence of magnetic nanoparticles with characteristics close to those of manganese ferrite. By computer simulating the EMR spectra at variable temperatures, their morphological characteristics are deduced: relatively broad size and shape distribution with average diameter of ca. 3-4 nm. The characteristic temperature-dependent shift of the apparent resonance field is explained by a strong temperature dependence of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the nanoparticles. The potassium-alumina-borate glasses containing magnetic nanoparticles represent a novel class of materials: "transparent magnets". Indeed, they remain transparent in a part of visible and near infrared spectral range while showing magnetic and magneto-optical properties characteristic of magnetically ordered materials.

Аннотация: Layer silicates F- and OH-apophyllites, KCa4Si8O20(F, OH)·8H2O, have been investigated by Raman spectroscopy at hydrostatic and nonhydrostatic pressures up to 8 GPa in diamond anvil cells using a 4 : 1 methanol–ethanol mix as pressure-transmitting medium. Our experiments show that at hydrostatic compression, apophyllites retain their crystalline states (i.e. no amorphization) up to 5 GPa. The wavenumbers of most bands exhibit linear dependences on pressure, except for a few ones, e.g. at 162 and 3565 cm–1 in OH-form (160.5 and 3558 cm–1 in F-form) that show nonlinear dependences. Nonhydrostatic compression with additional uniaxial loading induces amorphization of apophyllites. The majority of the bands in OH-apophyllite decreases markedly in intensity and shows considerable broadening under nonhydrostatic compression up to 3–6 GPa. In addition, the wavenumbers of several bands at nonhydrostatic compression exhibit considerable nonlinear dependences on pressure with strong hysteresis. These bands are mainly associated with vibrations of the interlayer ions and molecules and also of stretching and bending silicate sheets, hence being highly sensitive to the interlayer distance. Finally, we have calculated the lattice dynamics of F-apophyllite and interpreted the majority of bands, and these data are used to explain the complex baric behavior of the bands. Аннотация: The X-ray diffraction, Mossbauer, calorimetric, and magnetic characteristics of zirconolite GdFeTi2O7 have been measured to determine the ground magnetic state. A kink dependent on the magnetic prehistory of the sample has been revealed in the temperature dependence of the magnetic moment at T = 3 K. Mossbauer spectroscopy has confirmed the nonequivalence of the iron ion positions in GdFeTi2O7. The experimental data obtained allow the conclusion on the formation of a spin glass state with the freezing temperature T (f) = 3 K in the GdFeTi2O7 compound.

Аннотация: By means of the B3LYP density functional method with the use of the polarized continuum model PCM, we have performed quantum-chemical computations of the electronic absorption and fluorescence spectra of fluorone dianions: fluorescein, dibromofluorescein, eosin, erythrosine, and Rose Bengal in vacuum and methanol. We have revealed conformational features of the structure of fluorone dianions (charge redistribution, changes in the bond lengths and angles between bonds) second by the halogen substitution, the transition from the ground state to an excited state, and the change of the solvent (vacuum-methanol). Absorption and fluorescence wavelengths, constant dipole moments, transition dipole moments, and oscillator strengths have been calculated. We have showed that, upon halogenation of fluorones, the absorption spectra are redshifted and the Stokes shift decreases, which is qualitatively consistent with experimental results.

Аннотация: The Eu3+-doped red-orange emitting phosphor of tellurite glass 0.25Li2O–0.20Y2O3–0.5TeO2–0.05Eu2O3 has been synthesized by the melt quenching method. The amorphous nature of the glass has been verified by XRD measurements. The photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra, the luminescence decay curves have been investigated for the composition. The phosphor can be efficiently excited by the near UV light to realize the intense narrow red emission line (611 nm) corresponding to forced electric dipole transition 5D0 → 7F2 of Eu3+ ions. The Li2O–Y2O3–TeO2:Eu3+glass phosphor is a potential red-orange emitting candidate for the application in WLEDs.

Аннотация: Nanoclusters and nanocrystals of the room temperature magnetic spinel CuCr2S4 synthesized using a facile solution-based method have been examined by transmission electron microscopy, magnetic measurements, and magnetic resonance over a wide frequency range 9.6–80 GHz and at temperatures down to 4.2 K. Decreasing of the resonance field and broadening of the resonance lines below 50 K for both samples are due to the freezing of magnetic moments of nanocubes and nanocrystalline particles constituting nanoclusters. The effective fields of averaged magnetic anisotropy (HA)≌2.4 kOe are similar for both nanopowder samples as estimated from resonance measurements at T = 4.2 K. An additional blocking temperature T b ≅ 300 K appears in nanoclusters due to freezing of the magnetic moment of the entire cluster as a whole. Below this blocking temperature, the magnetic dipolar field acting in boundary areas of interacting constituent nanocrystals is responsible for the additional low-field resonance line observed in the resonance spectra of nanoclusters at X-band.

Аннотация: In this paper we are reported about a peculiarity of the crystal structure and the magnetic state of TmFeTi2O7. The compound TmFeTi2O7 has been synthesized by the solid-phase reaction method. Using X-ray diffraction method the disorder in the distribution of the iron ions over five nonequivalent crystal sites was observed, also the populations of the iron atoms positions were determined. We show that below Tf = 6 K the magnetization of TmFeTi2O7 depends on the magnetic history of the sample. There are indications for spin glass state. This results allow us to assume the state of spin glass is realized below freezing temperature Tf = 6 K in TmFeTi2O7. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Аннотация: Physicochemical properties of two calcium aluminosilicate materials after reducing in the hydrodynamic rotary generator in supercavitation mode were studied. The samples are the crystal ceramic foam based on Kansko-Achinsk lignite-ash and the porous glass material obtained from low-manganese nonmetallic feed. X-ray phase analysis, EPR-method, NPR-method (the Mossbauer Effect) and optical microscopy were used. It was found that the material is changing its stucrure in a hydrodynamic dispersion process caused by high-cavitation. The nature of the changes depends on its initial state.

Template synthesis of CMK-3 nanostructured carbon material and study of its properties
/ I. V. Ponomarenko [et al.] // Glass Phys. Chem. - 2014. - Vol. 40, Is. 1. - P. 79-87, DOI 10.1134/S1087659614010180 . - ISSN 1087-6596
Аннотация: Mesostructured carbon has been obtained by template synthesis. SBA-15 mesostructured silicate has been used as a template. The effect of the properties of a template on the ordering of a replica has been studied. It has been shown with the use of X-ray diffraction, gas adsorption, and electron microscopy that there are evident correlations of the conditions of synthesis of a template with the ordering of a carbon replica, which can be guided by the synthesis of materials. The ordering of a replica significantly depends on the mesopore volume of the initial template and thickness of the pore wall. One should use templates with the highest possible mesopore volume and minimal wall thickness to obtain highly ordered replicas. These templates can be prepared during the treatment of synthesized materials at temperatures close to 100 C. It has been determined that, when there is SBA-15, the presence of micropores is a necessary condition for the preparation of carbon replicas that retain the structure of the template. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: Magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, specific-heat, and positive muon spin relaxation (?SR) measurements have been used to characterize the magnetic ground state of the spinel compound CuGa2O4. We observe a spin-glass transition of the S = 1/2 Cu2+ spins below Tf = 2.5 K characterized by a cusp in the susceptibility curve which is suppressed when a magnetic field is applied. We show that the magnetization of CuGa2O4 depends on the magnetic history of the sample. Well below Tf, the muon signal resembles the dynamical Kubo-Toyabe expression reflecting that the spin freezing process in CuGa2O4 results in a Gaussian distribution of the magnetic moments. By means of Monte Carlo simulations, we obtain the relevant exchange integrals between the Cu2+ spins in this compound.
