Аннотация: We consider light transmission in a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two identical nonlinear defects positioned symmetrically aside the waveguide. With the coupled mode theory, we show three scenarios for the transmission. The first one inherits the linear case and preserves the symmetry. In the second scenario, the symmetry is broken because of different light intensities at the defects. In the third scenario, the intensities at the defects are equal but phases of complex amplitudes are different. That results in a vortical power flow between the defects similar to the dc Josephson effect if the input power over the waveguide is applied and the defects are coupled. All of these phenomena agree well with computations based on an expansion of the electromagnetic field into optimally adapted photonic Wannier functions in a 2D photonic crystal.

Аннотация: A comparative study was performed of the low-temperature high-resolution absorption spectra of the Yb3+ probe in R1−xYbxAl3(BO3)4 (R = Y, Tm, Lu) crystals grown by flux technique independently in four different laboratories using different solvents. We show that the incorporation of solvent components into the crystal in the course of crystallization gives rise to spectral satellites of the Yb3+ 0(2F7/2) → 0′(2F5/2) absorption lines and assign particular satellites to the Yb3+ centers near the bismuth and molybdenum impurities (which decrease the transparency of YAB in the UV spectral range). We suggest this spectroscopic method for a rapid analysis of the quality of UV laser crystals and for improvement of growth technologies.

Аннотация: We analyze how the magnetic disorder affects the properties of the two-band s± and s++ models, which are the subject of discussions regarding iron-based superconductors and other multiband systems like MgB2. We show that there are several cases when the transition temperature Tc is not fully suppressed by magnetic impurities in contrast to the Abrikosov-Gor'kov theory, but a saturation of Tc takes place in the regime of strong disorder. These cases are: (1) the purely interband impurity scattering and (2) the unitary scattering limit. We show that in the former case the s± gap is preserved, while the s++ state transforms into the s± state with increasing magnetic disorder. For case (2), the gap structure remains intact.

Transport properties of HTSC plus Ba(Pb, Met)O-3 composites as functions of the electrical and magnetic characteristics of nonsuperconducting components

Аннотация: Composites simulating a network of weak metallic links and consisting of a classic 1-2-3 HTSC and a BaPbO3 metal oxide with incorporated Sn, Ni, and Fe impurities have been prepared. Experimental resistivity, magnetic, and Mossbauer studies of the BaPb(0.9)Met(0.1)O(3) nonsuperconducting components are presented. The transport properties of the HTSC + BaPb(0.9)Met(0.1)O(3) composites have been investigated. The superconducting properties of the composites are observed to be suppressed, both when the carrier mean free path in nonsuperconducting components with tin impurities decreases, and as a result of an additional interaction of the magnetic moments of (Fe, Ni) impurities with the spins of supercurrent carriers. The experimental temperature dependences of the composite critical current are analyzed in terms of the de Gennes theory for the superconductor-normal metal-superconductor structures. Supercurrent in the composites is weakened by magnetic impurities in greater degree than by nonmagnetic ones. It indicates that carriers in HTSC with 1-2-3 structure are mostly the conventional singlet pairs.

Аннотация: We have reexamined the problem of disorder in two-band superconductors, and shown, within the framework of the T-matrix approximation, that the suppression of T-c can be described by a single parameter depending on the intraband and interband impurity scattering rates. T-c is shown to be more robust against nonmagnetic impurities than would be predicted in the trivial extension of Abrikosov-Gor'kov theory. We find a disorder-induced transition from the s(+/-) state to a gapless and then to a fully gapped s(++) state, controlled by a single parameter-the sign of the average coupling constant (lambda). We argue that this transition has strong implications for experiments.

Аннотация: The results of experimental investigations of Fe1 - x Co (x) Si crystals in the impurity limit with x = 0.001, 0.005, and 0.01 are reported. The temperature and field dependences of the magnetic susceptibility have been studied. According to the experimental data, the introduction of cobalt impurity leads to a change in the energy structure, which is most pronounced in a change in the electrical properties. The temperature, field, and concentration dependences of the resistivity have been measured. The results have been interpreted in the framework of the Kondo model.

Аннотация: The electron spin resonance (ESR) in CuCrS(2) disulphides is found to be strongly dependent on a synthesis method used. At a temperature of 300 K, a polycrystalline CuCrS(2) sample is paramagnetic with a g-value of 1.95 at 40 K, it undergoes the magnetic transition. In the temperature range 4.2-290 K, a single-crystal sample prepared by a chemical vapor transport method exhibits the ESR features typical of a ferromagnet. It is shown that these features are related to the presence of a small amount of the single-crystal CuCr(2)S(4) impurity in the CuCrS(2) single crystal. (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics.     Extended s(+/-) scenario for the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate in superconducting pnictides

Аннотация: Recently, several measurements of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate T(1)(-1) in the superconducting Fe pnictides have been reported. These measurements generally show no coherence peak below T(c) and indicate a low-temperature power-law behavior, the characteristics commonly taken as evidence of unconventional superconductivity with lines of nodes crossing the Fermi surface. In this work we show that (i) the lack of a coherence peak is fully consistent with the previously proposed nodeless extended s(+/-)-wave symmetry of the order parameter (whether in the clean or dirty limit) and (ii) the low-temperature power-law behavior can be also explained in the framework of the same model but requires going beyond the Born limit.

Аннотация: The polarized electronic absorption spectra, orientation ordering, and the special local field features were studied for push-pull linear dye molecules with strong donor-acceptor electronic conjugation of terminal fragments in the matrix of a nematic liquid crystal. The temperature-induced inversion of the sign of the splitting of polarized impurity absorption bands was observed. This effect was shown to be caused by the statistical character of orientation ordering of impurity molecules and manifestation of the higher moments of the orientation distribution function. The dependence of local field parameters (Lorentz tensor components) of impurity molecules on their orientation ordering was established. This dependence was used to reproduce the temperature dependence of the orientation order parameter of the matrix. (C) 2004 MAIK "Nauka / Interperiodica".

The transport properties of the composites have been studied. An exponential decay of the critical current with increasing Fe content in the non-superconducting ingredient of the composite has been observed. Such a behaviour is accounted for in terms of the de Gennes proximity effect theory.

Аннотация: The heat capacity, nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and x-ray diffraction of (Cs1-xRbx)(2)ZnI4 single crystals have been measured, for x = 0, 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.025 and 0.05. The normal to incommensurate (N-Inc) phase transition at T-I, the incommensurate to commensurate (Inc-C) lock-in transition at T-L and the structural commensurate monoclinic to triclinic transition at T-LT, observed in the parent compound (x = 0), takes place for x = 0, 0.001, 0.005 and 0.01. For x = 0.025 only T-I and T-L are detected, while for x = 0.05 no transitions were observable. The values of T-I and T-L increase with x while T-LT decreases and disappears at the concentration x = 0.025. The effect of defects, besides modifying the transition temperatures, is that of broadening and lowering the heat capacity anomaly at the lock-in transition until its total quenching for x = 0.05. No observable hysteresis is detected in this transition. NQR and x-ray diffraction data show the Inc-C transition up to the highest concentration. We conclude that this phenomenology is caused by weak interaction of the incommensurate modulation with point defects even in the region close to the Inc-C transition.

Аннотация: The local changes produced in the electronic structure and their effect on the physical properties of the superconducting and normal phases when zinc and nickel are substituted for copper are examined on the basis of a multiband p-d model. It is shown that strong electronic correlations suppress the S = 1 configuration of Ni2+ and cause the superposition of the S = 1/2 and S = 0 states of nickel. The change in the density of states in p- and n-type systems is studied, and the peculiarity of Zn impurity for p- type systems and Ni impurity for n-type systems is shown. The universal dependence of the T-c on the residual resistance in lightly doped superconductors and deviations from it in optimally doped systems are discussed. We show both analytically in the framework of the coupled mode theory and numerically that there are two different regimes for transmission dependent on the quality of the FPR mirrors. For low quality, we obtain transmittance very similar to the clean FPR with slightly shifted Lorentz peaks. However, for good quality, the transmittance peaks are strongly reduced and substituted with Gaussian peaks because of multiple scattering of waves by each impurity. As a side effect, we observe the angular (channel) conversion in the disordered FPR. We demonstrate that the resonant peaks are dependent on the concentration of impurities to pave a way for resonant measurement of the concentration. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: An exact solution for a model describing the equilibrium behavior of an ensemble of Ising chains with nonmagnetic intersite repulsion of nearest neighbors and an equilibrium distribution of nonmagnetic impurities is obtained using the transfer matrix technique. The possibility of exciting quantum phase transitions using the intersite repulsion parameter in a system is demonstrated. Proximity to the critical points of these transitions has a substantial effect on the temperature dependence of a system’s magnetic susceptibility. © 2016, Allerton Press, Inc.

Unconventional superconductors -- Iron pnictides -- Iron chalcogenides -- Impurity scattering

Аннотация: Disorder impurities and defects violating the ideal long-range order is always present in solids. It can result in interesting and sometimes unexpected effects in multiband superconductors, especially if the superconductivity is uncon-ventional, thus having symmetry other than the usual s-wave. This paper uses the examples of iron-based pnictides and chal-cogenides to examine how both nonmagnetic and magnetic impurities affect superconducting states with s± and s++ order parameters. We show that disorder causes the transition between s± and s++ states and examine what observable effects this transition can produce. © 2016 Uspekhi Fizicheskikh Nauk, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Аннотация: We study the dependence of the superconducting gaps on both the disorder and the temperature within the two-band model for iron-based materials. In the clean limit, the system is in the s± state with sign-changing gaps. Scattering by nonmagnetic impurities leads to the change of the sign of the smaller gap, resulting in a transition from the s± to the s++ state with the sign-preserving gaps. We show here that the transition is temperature-dependent. Thus, there is a line of s±→s++ transition in the temperature–disorder phase diagram. There is a narrow range of impurity scattering rates, where the disorder-induced s±→s++ transition occurs at low temperatures, but then the low-temperature s++ state transforms back to the s± state at higher temperatures. With increasing impurity scattering rate, the temperature of such s++→s± transition shifts to the critical temperature Tc, and only the s++ state is left for higher amounts of disorder.
