Self-organised aggregation of a pair of particles with different resonant frequencies and electric dipole moments of transitions, controlled by an external quasi-resonant field
/ V. V. Slabko, A. S. Tsipotan, A. S. Aleksandrovsky // Quantum Electron. . - 2013. - Vol. 43, no. 5. - P. 458-462DOI 10.1070/QE2013v043n05ABEH015021 . -

Аннотация: The influence of the oscillation phases of the dipole moments induced in metal nanoparticles and quantum dots by an external laser field on their interaction energy is considered. It is shown that a difference in resonant frequencies leads to the formation of additional minima and maxima, which are absent in the spectral dependence of the interaction energy of identical particles at similar orientations of the pair of particles with respect to the plane of polarisation of radiation. These features are due to the fact that the oscillation phase difference of the induced dipole moments of particles reaches values close to π.

Аннотация: We study the transmission spectra of a one-dimensional photonic crystal with a defect containing a four-level atomic medium that exhibits a greatly enhanced third-order susceptibility while having a vanishing linear susceptibility dependent on the electromagnetically induced transparency. Two ways of controlling the transmission of a photonic crystal are discussed: via absorption, i.e., nonlinear (two-photon) absorption of the probe field enhanced by constructive quantum interference, and via dispersion, which comes down to shifting the resonance frequency of the defect mode for the probe field by varying the refractive index based on the giant Kerr nonlinearity (cross-phase modulation). We demonstrate that such systems enable nonlinear all-optical switching at ultralow intensities of the coupling and switching laser fields.

A concept of a family of unique backward-wave photonic devices, such as frequency up and down converting nonlinear-optical mirrors, sensors, modulators, filters and amplifiers is proposed. Novel materials are considered, which support coexistence of ordinary and backward waves and thus enable enhanced nonlinear-optical frequency-conversion processes. Particular properties of short-pulse regime are investigated. В© 2013 SPIE.

Аннотация: We consider a microcavity with degenerate dipole or hexapole eigenmodes. If the cavity is positioned between waveguides, degeneracy is lifted. However, we show that in a nonlinear microcavity the degeneracy is recovered at certain injected power. In application we consider a two-dimensional photonic crystal of GaAs rods holding two parallel waveguides and one defect made of Kerr media. We show that 100% efficiency channel dropping can be attained without a necessity to tune the resonant frequencies of the microcavity. В© 2013 Optical Society of America.

Multirelaxation generalized refractive mixing dielectric model of moist soils

Перевод заглавия: Многорелаксационная обобщенная рефракционная диэлектрическая модель влажных почв
Аннотация: In this letter, a multirelaxation generalized refractive mixing dielectric model (GRMDM) for moist soil is proposed and substantiated in the frequency range from 0.04 to 26.5 GHz. This model is based on the methodology of a single-relaxation GRMDM which accounts only for the dipole relaxation of water molecules in the gigahertz frequency range. The proposed multirelaxation GRMDM takes into account both the dipole (Debye) and ionic (Maxwell-Wagner) relaxations of soil water molecules. For this purpose, it uses a two-frequency Debye relaxation equation for the dielectric spectra of bound water. The spectroscopic parameters of the multirelaxation GRMDM were derived by fitting the spectra calculated by this model to the respective measured ones. The main advantage of this model is that it predicts the complex dielectric constant of moist soils throughout the megahertz and gigahertz frequency ranges with the same error as the single-relaxation GRMDM does only in the gigahertz range.

Investigation of the special features of the coupling coefficients for microstrip asymmetric hairpin resonators at frequencies of the second passband
/ B. A. Belyaev [et al.] // Rus. Phys. J. - 2013. - Vol. 55, Is. 10. - P. 1215-1221, DOI 10.1007/s11182-013-9945-3 . - ISSN 1064-8887
Аннотация: The behavior of the frequency-dependent coupling coefficients is investigated for a pair of microstrip resonators formed by conductors shaped as an asymmetrical hairpin. It is demonstrated that the total coupling coefficient of the resonators in a two-pole filter becomes close to zero in the region of the frequency of the second resonance due to mutual compensation for inductive and capacitive interactions. This allows a device for protection against high-power radio pulse to be developed based on such resonators with additional hairpin resonator containing control element manufactured from high-temperature superconductor (HTS) film. / S. Ya. Vetrov, I. V. Timofeev, A. Yu. Avdeeva // Optics and Spectroscopy (English translation of Optika i Spektroskopiya). - 2010. - Vol. 109, Is. 1. - P. 106-111, DOI 10.1134/S0030400X10070179. - Cited References: 13 . - ISSN 0030-400X
Аннотация: The crystal under consideration is a layered structure consisting of alternating layers of two materials, one of which is a resonantly absorbing gas. It is shown that the combination of the dispersion of an atomic gas with the dispersion of a photonic-bandgap structures allows one to efficiently control the transmission spectra of s- and p-polarized modes in these combined systems. It is found that the spectrum is highly sensitive to the position of the gas resonance frequency with respect to the bandgap edge and to a change in the gas pressure. The transmission, reflection, and absorption spectra of the resonant photonic crystal are studied at an angle of incidence equal to the Brewster angle of a seed photonic crystal. Possible applications of the found particular features of the dispersion of resonant photonic crystals are discussed. В© 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: Elementary logical operators (selective rotation, Fourier transform, controllable phase shift, and SUM gate) are considered for a quantum computer based on three-level systems (qutrits) represented by nuclear spins I = 1 under nuclear magnetic resonance conditions. The computer simulation of the realization of these operators by means of simple and composite selective radiofrequency (RF) pulses and optimized RF pulses is performed. The time dependence of the amplitude of last pulses is found by numerical optimization at different durations. Two variants are proposed for realization of a two-qutrit SUM gate by using one-qutrit or two-qutrit optimized RF pulses. The calculated time dependences of realization errors were used to study the time optimality of different methods for obtaining gates, proposed earlier and in this paper. The advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods are evaluated for different values of physical parameters.

Аннотация: We investigate the high-frequency susceptibility (Green function) of an initially sinusoidal 1D superlattice with 2D phase inhomogeneities that model the deformations of the interfaces between the superlattice layers. For waves propagating along the superlattice axis ( the geometry of a photon or magnon crystal), we have found a peculiar behavior of the imaginary part of the Green function that consists in a significant difference between the peaks corresponding to the edges of the band gap in the wave spectrum. The peak corresponding to the lower-frequency band edge remains essentially unchanged as the root-mean-square fluctuation of the 2D inhomogeneities. 2 increases, while the peak corresponding to the higher-frequency band edge broaden and decreases sharply in height until its complete disappearance with increasing gamma(2). This behavior of the peaks corresponds to a band gap closure mechanism that differs from the traditional one characteristic of 1D and 3D inhomogeneities. These effects can be explained by a peculiarity of the energy conservation laws for the incident and scattered waves for 2D inhomogeneities in a 1D superlattice.

Аннотация: We present measurements of oscillations in the electron density, ion density and ion velocity in the induced magnetosphere of Mars. The fundamental frequency of the oscillations is a few millihertz, but higher harmonics are present in the spectrum. The oscillations are observed in a region where there is a velocity shear in the plasma flow. The fundamental frequency is in agreement with computational results from an ideal-MHD model. An interpretation based on velocity-shear instabilities is described.

Аннотация: We consider two electric RLC resonance networks that are equivalent to quantum billiards. In a network of inductors grounded by capacitors, the eigenvalues of the quantum billiard correspond to the squared resonant frequencies. In a network of capacitors grounded by inductors, the eigenvalues of the billiard are given by the inverse of the squared resonant frequencies. In both cases, the local voltages play the role of the wave function of the quantum billiard. However, unlike for quantum billiards, there is a heat power because of the resistance of the inductors. In the equivalent chaotic billiards, we derive a distribution of the heat power which describes well the numerical statistics.

Аннотация: Raman scattering spectra of the RbMnCl3 crystal have been studied under ambient conditions and under high hydrostatic pressure. The results produced have been interpreted with the ab initio model. The experimental data agree well with the estimated values in the low frequency range and show a slightly worse agreement at higher frequencies. A phase transition from the hexagonal phase to the perovskite phase predicted earlier within the same model was observed under high pressure (above 0.7 GPa) and new transitions to lower symmetry phases were found at higher pressures (1.1 GPa and 5 GPa). Аннотация: The diagram series structure for Matsubara Green's functions in the Hubbard operators representation have been analyzed for the superconducting (SC) phase in the t-J-model. It has been found that the Hubbard operator diagram technique besides anomalous self-energy operator includes also anomalous strength operator (ASO). With account for ASO Gor'kov equations have been written. ASO are shown to be very essential when anomalous averages are calculated. The anomalous self-energy operator and ASO were derived in one-loop approximation. It has turned out that strength operator components depend oil Matsubara frequency. As a result the SC phase is described by infinite set of integral equations. When deriving the equation for transition temperature in SC phase with s- and d-order parameter symmetry this system has been solved exactly. On the basis of numerical calculations it has been found that the account for strength operator components has fully suppressed SC phase with s-order parameter symmetry in the t-J-model. Аннотация: The transverse and longitudinal optical frequencies at q = 0, the dielectric constant and the effective charges are calculated for the A4B6 type family of the semiconducting compounds GeTe, SnTe and PdTe. The calculations are performed in the framework of the density functional method with the use of the norm-conserving "first-principles" pseudopotentials. The estimated ferroelectric phase transition temperatures and a number of other calculated quantities turned out to be in good agreement with the experimental data. The variations of the electronic structure in the row PbTe-GeTe, which promote the ferroelectric phase transition for GeTe, are discussed.

Аннотация: We consider a typical semiconductor resonant tunnelling GaAs/AlGaAs/GaAs nanostructure which forms a double-barrier potential with quasienergy levels corresponding to transition frequencies in the infrared and microwave regions. Two types of dynamical perturbation of the heterostructure in the form V-1(x, t) = V(1)x cos Omega t and V-2(t) = V-2 cos Omega t are considered. We analyse numerically a reconstruction of the electron transmission through the heterostructure and the current-voltage characteristics (IVC) under the influence of these dynamical perturbations. Both weak and strong perturbations are considered. We investigate the dependences of the transmission on the electron energy and the frequency of the external field with the main accent on the case where a frequency of the perturbation is tuned to a transition between quasienergies of the double-barrier structure. it is found that these resonant phenomena give rise to new peaks and dips in the IVC. In particular, it is shown that the dipole type of perturbation V-1(x, t) gives rise to a Rabi splitting of the transmission peaks and under certain conditions to a Rabi splining of the IVC peaks and dips. We demonstrate that dynamical perturbation may induce a direct current opposite to the direction of the applied voltage, and that this phenomenon takes the form of a sharp dip which has a resonant origin. It is observed that the dipole type of perturbation V-1(x, t) of laser radiation is more effective for tuning the IVC than the first perturbation V-2(t). Also absorption and emission of energy by an electron transmitted through the DBRTS are considered.
