Аннотация: We show that two nonlinear resonant cavities aligned between two parallel waveguides can support self-induced bound states in the continuum (BSCs). These BSCs are symmetrical relative to an inversion of the waveguides and to inversion of the transport axis. Due to this BSCs can drop an incident wave from one waveguide to another with very high efficiency. We show also that the frequency of the efficient channel dropping can be tuned by injecting power. All these results are in good agreement with numerical solutions of the Maxwell equations in a two-dimensional photonic crystal of GaAs rods holding two parallel waveguides and two defects made of a Kerr medium. Аннотация: In this letter, a multirelaxation generalized refractive mixing dielectric model (GRMDM) for moist soil is proposed and substantiated in the frequency range from 0.04 to 26.5 GHz. This model is based on the methodology of a single-relaxation GRMDM which accounts only for the dipole relaxation of water molecules in the gigahertz frequency range. The proposed multirelaxation GRMDM takes into account both the dipole (Debye) and ionic (Maxwell-Wagner) relaxations of soil water molecules. For this purpose, it uses a two-frequency Debye relaxation equation for the dielectric spectra of bound water. The spectroscopic parameters of the multirelaxation GRMDM were derived by fitting the spectra calculated by this model to the respective measured ones. The main advantage of this model is that it predicts the complex dielectric constant of moist soils throughout the megahertz and gigahertz frequency ranges with the same error as the single-relaxation GRMDM does only in the gigahertz range.

Аннотация: In this paper, a soil texture dependent multirelaxation generalized refractive mixing dielectric model (MR GRMDM) for moist soils was developed. The model provides for complex permittivity of moist soils in both the gigahertz and megahertz frequency ranges, namely, from 40 MHz to 26.5 GHz.

Аннотация: We present a two-dimensional photonic crystal design of four defect dielectric rods, which form a microcavity with eigenfrequencies residing in the propagating band of a directional waveguide. In this system, a nonrobust bound state in the continuum (BSC) occurs as a result of full destructive interference of the monopole and quadrupole modes, with the same parity at certain values of the material parameters of the defect rods. Due to the Kerr effect, a robust BSC arises in a self-adaptive way without necessity to tune the material parameters. The absence of the superposition principle in that nonlinear system gives rise to coupling of the BSC with injected light, resulting in a novel transmission resonance. Аннотация: We consider an infinite periodic array of dielectric rods in vacuum with the aim to demonstrate three types of Bloch bound states in the continuum (BSCs): symmetry protected with a zero Bloch vector, embedded in one diffraction channel with nonzero Bloch vector, and embedded in two and three diffraction channels. The first and second types of the BSC exist for a wide range of material parameters of the rods, while the third occurs only at a specific value of the radius of the rods. We show that the second type supports the power flux along the array. In order to find BSCs we put forward an approach based on the expansion over the Hankel functions. We show how the BSC reveals itself in the scattering function when the singular BSC point is approached along a specific path in the parametric space.

Аннотация: We consider electron transport in a zigzag quantum wire by the effect of finger gate potential. Using a non-Hermitian effective Hamiltonian, we calculate resonance positions and widths to show that the resonance widths are easily governed by the gate potential. In particular, the resonance width can be enforced to be equal to zero, which leads to an electron localization with the Fermi energy embedded in the propagation band of the wire, i.e., the bound state in the continuum (BSC). We show that, for positive values of the potential, a zigzag wire becomes a Fabry-Perot resonator to give rise to BSC too.

Аннотация: We analyze the Wannier-Stark spectrum of a quantum particle in generic one-dimensional double-periodic lattices. In the limit of a weak static field, the spectrum is shown to be a superposition of two Wannier-Stark ladders originating from two Bloch subbands. As the strength of the field is increased, the spectrum rearranges itself into a single Wannier-Stark ladder. We derive analytical expressions that describe the rearrangement employing the analogy between the Wannier-Stark problem and a driven two-level system in the strong-coupling regime.

Аннотация: We consider quantum transmission through double-bend Pi- and Z-shaped waveguides controlled by the finger gate potential. Using the effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian approach we explain the resonances in transmission. We show a difference in transmission in the short waveguides that is the result of different chirality in Z and Pi waveguides. We demonstrate that the potential selectively affects the resonant widths resulting in the occurrence of bound states in the continuum.

Аннотация: We study the dynamical response of two nonlinear microresonators coupled with a photonic crystal waveguide. We find a domain in the space of frequency and amplitude of the probing light where all stationary solutions are unstable. In this domain, scattered light carries multiple harmonics with equidistantly spaced frequencies [frequency comb (FC) effect]. Two identical resonators coupled with the waveguide support the symmetry-protected bound state in the continuum whose response is singular, as the amplitude of the injected wave tends to zero. As a result, the FC interval tends to zero when the amplitude of probing light diminishes, which paves the way for all-optical generation of waves with ultralow frequency. Аннотация: We demonstrate bound states in the first TE and TM diffraction continua (BSC) in a linear periodic array of dielectric spheres in air above the light cone. We classify the BSCs according to the symmetry specified by the azimuthal number m, the Bloch wave vector β directed along the array, and polarization. The most simple symmetry-protected TE and TM polarized BSCs have m=0 and β=0 and occur in a wide range of the radii of the spheres and dielectric constants. More complicated BSCs with m≠0 and β=0 exist only for a selected radius of the spheres at a fixed dielectric constant. We also find robust Bloch BSCs with β≠0 and m=0. We present also the BSCs embedded into two and three diffraction continua. We show that the BSCs can be easily detected by the collapse of the Fano resonance for scattering of electromagnetic plane waves by the array.

Аннотация: We consider bound states in the continuum (BSCs) or embedded trapped modes in two- and three-dimensional acoustic axisymmetric duct-cavity structures. We demonstrate numerically that, under variation of the length of the cavity, multiple BSCs occur due to the Friedrich-Wintgen two-mode full destructive interference mechanism. The BSCs are detected by tracing the resonant widths to the points of the collapse of Fano resonances where one of the two resonant modes acquires infinite life-time. It is shown that the approach of the acoustic coupled mode theory cast in the truncated form of a two-mode approximation allows us to analytically predict the BSC frequencies and shape functions to a good accuracy in both two and three dimensions. © 2015 Cambridge University Press.

Аннотация: In the framework of the temporal coupled mode theory we consider bound states embedded in the continuum (BSC) of photonic crystal waveguide as a capacity for light storage. A symmetry protected BSC occurs in two off-channel microresonators positioned symmetrically relative to the waveguide. We demonstrate that the symmetry protected BSC captures a fraction of a light pulse due to the Kerr effect as the pulse passes by the microresonators. However the amount of captured light is found to be strongly sensitive to the parameters of the gaussian light pulse such as basic frequency, duration and intensity. In contrast to the above case the BSC resulted from a full destructive interference of two eigenmodes of a single microresonator accumulates a fixed amount of light dependent on the material parameters of the microresonator but independent of the light pulse. The BSCs in the Fabry-Perot resonator show similar effects. We also show that the accumulated light can be released by a secondary pulse. These phenomena pave a way for all-optical storage and release of light. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

Аннотация: We consider mechanisms of formation of the bound states in the continuum in open rectangular quantum dots with variable width. Because of symmetry there might be bound states in the continuum (BSCs) embedded into one, two, and three continua because of the symmetry of system. These BSCs arise for selected values of the width. We show numerically that the BSCs can be excited for transmission of wave packets if the quantum dot width is varied in time and reaches these selected values of dot width. Moreover, we consider numerically a decay process of different eigenstates in the closed quantum dot to show that some of them trap in the BSC after the quantum dot is opened.

Аннотация: We consider a Fabry-Perot resonator (FPR) comprised of two off-channel nonlinear defects coupled to the photonic waveguide. For the linear case FPR can support bound states in the form of standing waves between the defects if a distance between them is quantized. For the nonlinear case the bound states appear for arbitrary distance between the defects if electromagnetic intensity is quantized. For transmission through the FPR we reveal additional resonances which are the result of coupling of incident wave with the bound states because of nonlinearity of the defects. The resonances are spaced at the eigenfrequencies of bound states with a width proportional to the input amplitude. The theory of the FPR based on the simple Wang and Fan model [Phys. Rev. E 68, 066616 (2003)] is complemented by the tight-binding one. The results for the transmission and bound states in these models agree with computations in real two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide coupled with two off-channel defects fabricated from a Kerr-type material.

Аннотация: A bound state in a continuum (BIC) might appear in open quantum dots for the variation in the dot's shape. By means of the equations of motion of the Green's functions, we investigate the effect of strong intradot Coulomb interactions on that phenomenon within the framework of(he impurity Anderson model. The equation that the imaginary part of the poles of the Green's function equals zero yields the condition for BICs. As a result, we show that the Coulomb interactions replicate the single-electron BICs into two-electron ones.

Аннотация: Photonic crystal with defect layer forms directed continuum for electromagnetic waves. Defect rods in the vicinity of the defect layer interact with the continuum and give rise to scattering of ingoing waves. We derive quantum-mechanical analog of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of the open system with complex eigenvalues, which describes a scattering of electromagnetic waves by the defect rods. In this formalism a bound state in the continuum (BIC) can be easily found by the condition that one of the complex eigenvalues becomes real for variation of dielectric constant of the defect rods. We numerically find BICs with discrete frequencies belong to the continuum for different arrangements of the defects and show that they are localized around the defects.

Аннотация: We study bound states of the two-dimensional Helmholtz equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions in an open geometry given by two straight leads of the same width which cross at an angle theta. Such a four-terminal junction with a tunable theta can realized experimentally if a right-angle structure is filled by a ferrite. It is known that for theta=90degrees there is one proper bound state and one eigenvalue embedded in the continuum. We show that the number of eigenvalues becomes larger with increasing asymmetry and the bound-state energies are increasing as functions of theta in the interval (0,90degrees). Moreover, states which are sufficiently strongly bound exist in pairs with a small energy difference and opposite parities. Finally, we discuss how the bound states transform with increasing theta into quasibound states with a complex wave vector.

Аннотация: The transmission of a TE microwave field with a frequency omega through Gamma, T, and X waveguide junctions filled with a ferromagnetic is considered. These junctions are known to have bound states with below-cutoff frequencies. A probing microwave radiation with a frequency Omega applied to the scattering region generates magnetic oscillations with frequencies omega + n Omega (where n = 0, +/-1, +/-2, ...), which resonantly combine with the bound waveguide states. This effect provides for a new method of studying bound waveguide states and efficiently controlling the transmission of microwave radiation. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

Аннотация: Electron transmission in the two-, three-, and four-terminal nanostructures is considered under the influence of a radiation field. The frequency of the radiation field is tuned to the transition between the energy of a bound state and the Fermi energy of the incident electrons. The radiation induced resonant peaks and dips of the electron transport are exhibited for zero and low magnetic fields. It is shown that rotation of the radiation field polarization can effectively control the electron transport into different electrodes attached to the structures because of the symmetry of the structures. The resonant anomalies of the Hall resistance are found in a weak magnetic field. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. [S1063-7761(98)00412-0].
