Аннотация: The significant role of soil micro-organisms as one of the most important regulating factors for productivity and stability of forest ecosystems has until now largely been neglected by forestry science research. The reason for this is that forestry science views forest ecosystems as producing systems and not, as is correct, as producing and decomposing systems. In the work described here, it has been attempted for the first time via quantitative description of biochemical and microbiological conditions in different forest ecosystems, as well as their dependence upon the more important soil and site factors, to gain information about the turnover of material in the soil. The results from this work are summarised and appraised and an overview of future research needs is given
