Аннотация: The present knowledge on the variation of wood density of beech and it's control is incomplete and contradictory inspite of a large number of investigations. This has been explained on one hand by the nature of this variation, on the other hand by inadequate methods and insufficient sample sizes. The systematic variation of wood properties within the stems and the use of frequency distributions of values of wood density have been discussed at some length.
