Аннотация: This report was written in May 1977 at the Argonne National Laboratory at the completion of my seven months of study and research in Computer Science in the United States, supported by the Sweden-America Foundation. It was written partly to express my gratitude to the hosts during my stay in America, partly to inform the IFIP Working Group on Numerical Software of my Experiences, and also to be a report to the sponsoring foundation. First some personal impressions on the life in the United States are given, after which I discuss some interesting facts regarding recent hardware and software development. Four computer conferences, as well as the six regular university classes I attended, are summarized. The opinions in this report are strictly my own personal opinions, and neither those of the sponsoring organizations, visited institutions, no of my home affiliation.

Аннотация: Best practices for mitigating environmental damage from conventional power generation This volume of the Wiley Series in Environmentally Conscious Engineering, Environmentally Conscious Fossil Energy Production, seeks to provide new solutions to one of the grand challenges of this century: supplying energy to a growing population while reducing environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The first five chapters cover extraction and transport of fossil fuels; the last four chapters cover power plants. Forest Research Division of the Forestry Branch prepared plans for a survey to cover the major forest regions east of Rocky Mountains, and conducted the necessary field work over a three-year period in 1946, 1947, and 1948. Аннотация: Lodgepole pine is one of the most widespread softwood species in the Western United States and Canada. During the past quarter century its utilization has increased so greatly that it now nearly equals the cut of Western white pine. Lodgepole has the same soft-textured characteristics as ponderosa and the white pines and sometimes is substituted for them. It is used principally for framinf material for light construction, for interior paneling, exterior trim,posts, poles, railway ties, and specialty items. Lodgepole pine has fine pulping properties and soon may be used heavily for manufacturing pulp and paper
