Аннотация: Based on this investigation recommendations were developed for a systematical reduction of the number of stems in the age range from 30 to 50 years. They are based on pure Douglas-fir stands on sites with brown podsolic soils over clayslate respectively greywacke of the Douglas-fir sites in the Eifel-Hills of Rhineland-Palatinate. There seems to be no doubt about the fact, that thinning can be increased without reducing specific gravity and strength properties of Douglas-fir under the conditions investigated

Аннотация: This book deals with different methods of stand establishment. Most common today is the clear cutting system and the planting of 1000 to 1600 2- to 3-year-old bare-rooted Douglas fir per ha. Fertilization and thinning must be coordinated. Seen from the economic point of view it appears advisable to fertilize at a later stand age, particularly in pruned stands.
