Аннотация: This examines the structure and composition of the plant communities of the northern treeline region in Canada and Alaska. The author describes the environmental factors responsible for the geographical position of the forest border and for local variations in the complex ecological relationships involved. The data presented, gathered during his long-term field studies, amount to a comprehensive survey of the area, with sampling sites extending from the Yukon to Hudson Bay. This generously illustrated text provides a solid foundation for future documentation of biotic changes in the northern ecotone caused, for example, by climatic shifts. It will be a valuable source of information for students and researchers in ecology, forestry, botany, and arctic studies, as well as biogeographers and bioclimatologists
