Аннотация: A wide antagonistic spectrum was demonsrated both within and between the species. The inhibition established was of a fungistatic type. In order to widen the knowlwdge of the variation in sensivity of F. annosus, 85 isolated mainly from field trials in Norway spruce were selected and screened to three strongly active mucorrhiza-forming fungi. As a rule all root rot isolates were highly sensitive to all three antagonists. Only three exceptions were obtained. A strong correlation exists between the time advantage and the toxic level obtained

Аннотация: The current work investigates the factors responsible for the control efficiency of antagonistic bacteria and provides concepts on how the antagonistic potential of these bacteria can be enhanced and/or managed towards increased plant health. It is differentiated between antagonistic bacteria as biocontrol agents and the naturally occurring antagonistic potential in the soil/plant environment. Main emphasis is directed towards endophytic bacteria scince they are closely associated with the plant and therefore represent a promising new source of biocontrol candidates. Topics include procedures for the isolation and screening of effective antagonists, investigations on their biology and control mechanisms and options for their formulation and application.
