Аннотация: This volume contains most of the invited and contributed papers presented at the Conference on Robustness of Statistical Methods and Nonparametric Statistics held in the castle of Schwerin, Mai 29 - June 4 1983. This conference was organized by the Mathematical Society of the GDR in cooperation with the Society of Physical and Mathematical Biology of the GDR, the GDR-Region of the International Biometric Society and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR. All papers included were thoroughly reviewed by scientist listed under the heading "Editorial Collaboratories". Some contributios, we are sorry to report, were not recommended for publication by the reviewers and do not appear in these proceedings. The editors thank the reviewers for their valuable comments and suggestions. The conference was organized by a Programme Committee, its chairman was Prof. Dr. Dieter Rasch (Research Centre of Animal Production, Dummerstorf-Rostock). The members of the Programme Committee were Prof. Dr. Johannes Adam (Martin-Luther-University Halle), Prof. Dr. Heinz Ahrens (Academy of Sciences of the GDR, Berlin), Doz. Dr. Jana Jureckova (Charles University Praha), Prof. Dr. Moti Lal Tiku (McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario). The aim of the conference was to discuss several aspects of robustness but mainly to present new results regurding the robustness of classicalstatistical methods especially tests, confidence estimations, and selection procedures, and to compare their perfomance with nonparametric procrdures. Robustness in this sense is understood as intensitivity against violation of the normal assumption. Three approaches can be found: analytical approach for continuous distributions; combinatorial approach for k-point distributions; simulations in a system of distributions (Pearson system, Fleishmann system). The simulation studies were well designed and some papers deal with testing the pseudo-random number generators used. Most of the results have not been published elsewhere and appear in these proceeding for the first time. Some papers deal with the robustness issues on the lines of Huber although the main emphasis of the conference was to study robustness in the Pearson framework. Some papers deal with robust experimental designs and some with nonparametric methods (classification, estimations, etc.).

Аннотация: The overwhelming focus in this volume of the treatise is on linear waves in homogeneous and stratified lakes on the rotating Earth. It comprises 12 chapters, starting with rotating linear shallow-water waves and demonstrating their classification into gravity and Rossby waves for homogeneous and stratified water bodies. This leads naturally to the analysis of gravity waves in unbounded, semi-bounded and bounded domains of constant depth: Kelvin, inertial and Poincaré waves, reflection of such waves at the end of a gulf and their description in sealed basins as so-called ‘inertial waves proper’. The particular application to gravity waves in circular and elliptical basins of constant depth then builds further confidence towards the treatment of barotropic and baroclinic basin wide wave dynamics affected by the rotation of the Earth. The classical analytical approach to the baroclinic motion in lakes is done using the two layer approximation. Recent observations have focused on higher order baroclinicity, a topic dealt with in two chapters. Whole lake responses are illustrated in barotropic and baroclinic wave analyses in Lake Onega and Lake Lugano, respectively, with detailed comparisons of field data. The final four chapters are then devoted to a detailed presentation of topographic Rossby waves and the generalized Chrystal equations and their identification by field observations.

Аннотация: Рассматриваются теоретические вопросы классификации озер. Приводится обзор существующих классификаций озер. Большое внимание уделяется методам расчета признаков многокритериальной классификации озер в условиях неопределенности исходной информации. Вводятся многомерные классы озер, согласованные между собой шкалы и градации для исходных параметров классификации, обучающие выборки для каждого класса, решающие правила отнесения неизученных озер к известному классу. Обсуждаются результаты гидрологического районирования территории в зависимости от распределения озер разных классов. Книга предназначена для специалистов, связанных по роду своей деятельности с оценкой и охраной водных ресурсов, а также может быть полезна для студентов гидрологических, географических и гидрометеорологических специальностей. Fundamentals of lakes classification are considered. Existing classifications of lakes are reviewed. Much attention is paid to the methods of computation of indices of multi-criteria classification. Multi-dimension classes of lakes, coherent scales and sub-scales of initial parameters of classification are given. Training samples of lakes for each class of classification were composed. The results of grouping of insufficiently explored lakes are proposed. The results of hydrological regionalization of lakes made in accordance with their grouping are discussed. The book is intended for students of hydrological, geographical and hydrometeorological professional lines and experts working in the field of estimating and protection of water resources.

This system of classification is widely used in British Columbia and gives foresters, biologists, agrologists, other resource managers, and naturalists a common framework for a fundamental knowledge of landscape ecology. It thus provides a basis for ecosystem management and other practical decision-making.

Аннотация: There are both private and public purposes in the use of the soil. It is widely acknowledged today that public purposes are not being achieved satisfactorily. Partly this is because of inadequate knowlwdge of physical techniques and partly because of faulty social organization for promoting legitimate private interests. The formulation of a desirable public soil policy requires an understanding of the broad human problems with which the social scientists deal and the relationship demands that the knowledge of both groups be utilized.
