Аннотация: Multi-stem delimbing devices may rationalise processing of small-sized trees. Different types of delimbing device are reviewed. Some basic features of cradle delimbing were studi ed experimentally, some separately. As standard for delimbing quality, the proportion of branches cut shorter than a specified value is proposed. Acceptable delimbing quality was defined in the study as 75 per cent of the branches cut shorter than 25 mm. Efficiency was measured as the time required to achieve the defined delimbing quality. Loss of stemwood was measures simultaneously with delimbing efficiency. The delimping process followed an 'S'-shaped function.

Аннотация: Flail-delimbing-debarking-chipping techniques were studied in the harvesting of small-sized trees from the first commercial thinning of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris). In the system developed in Finland, trees are felled motor-manually by chainsaw using a felling-piling method. Trees are bucked into approximately 5 m sections and simultaneously topped at a diameter of 5-7 cm, and then subsequently hauled into 4m-high road-side piles, by a forwarder. Delimbing, debarking and chipping are carried out at a landing site or terminal with a Peterson Pacific DDC 5000 unit, equipped with a feeding table to allow the processing of 5 m sections.
