Аннотация: One species of Citriobatus, one of Hymenosporum, and 13 of Pittosporum are recognized in the Papuasian region. Keys to and distribution maps of all of them and their intraspesific taxa are given. Diagnoses and the Papuasian distribution of previously known species of Pittosporum are included. A brief account of the ecology and phenology of the Papuasian species of Pittosporum is presented and related to evolution in the genus in the Papuasian and Malesian region. The genus is more diverse in Papuasia than elsewhere, from which conclusions relating to centres of origin and migration have been drawn.

Аннотация: A phelogeny is proposed for the 30 species groups in the 13 genera here included in the family Pionidae. The phylogeny is based upon a detailed analysis of available morphological data for larval and adult stages according to the methodology advocated by Hennig. The proposed phylogeny provides the basis for a revised classification on the pionids and permits new insight into certain biological manifestations of phylogeny, namely habitat diversification, life history modification, and geographic distribution, in the group.

Аннотация: The paper is based on a study of primary types of 270 species of Scelionidae, many secondary types, and other important material in 40 world museums and private collections with approximately 300,000 specimens of Proctotrupoidea having been examined. Many genera are redefined, and generic diagnoses completed or corrected. The tribal classification is reviewed.

diagnoses -- causative microorganisms -- diseased insects

Аннотация: This paper constitutes a general and summarized report on the diagnoses of 575 accessions of dead and diseased insects received at our laboratory between August 1, 1944 and December 31, 1950. The results of the diagnoses made, according to the kind of causative microorganism or the cause of death were grouped as follows percentagewise: fungous infections, 34 per cent; bacterial infections, 20 per cent; virus infections, 18 per cent; protozoan infections, 11 per cent; accessions only for the purpose of ascertaining the presence or absence of symbiotes, 6 per cent; nematode infections, 2 per cent; and deaths resulting from nonmicrobial causes, 2 per cent. No diagnoses were rendered in 7 per cent of the accession received

insect population -- method

Аннотация: The successful use of microorganisms in the control of insect pests depends to a large degree on the thoroughness with which the basic research required for such work is accomplished. The diagnostic service provided by the laboratory of insect pathology constitutes such fundamental research. The laboratory performs a direct service not only to other scientists and specialists but also to farmers and growers in furnishing information relating to insect mortality. Such activity enables the California specialists to be in a position to discover new diseases and afflictions which may eventually be put to practical use in efforts to aid in the control of certain insect pests through the agency of microorganisms
