Аннотация: The handbook contains a description of and methodological hints concerning basic procedures for the handling and interpretation of vibrational spectra. All commonly-used definitions, mathematical relationships, tables of constants, conversion factors and computation schemes for numerical treatment of experimental values have been collectedThe book is supplemented with FORTRAN programs for the computer solution of many problems in molecular spectroscopy. The handbook has been written for graduate chemists (and also high-school graduated chemists), who interpret IR and Raman spectra obtained on their samples. The subject matter is thus limited only to those fields of experimental techniques which are reflected in the quality of the spectra and must be consideredin the handling and analysis of spectra. Other problems, e.g. the construction of commercial spectrometers and calculations of force constants, have not been treated in the book. The material contained in the handbook should suffice for independent handling of vibrational spectra in organic chemistry (and possibly also inorganic and macromolecular chemistry).

Аннотация: Immunotoxicity, Immune Dysfunction, and Chronic Disease is among the first books to illustrate the linkage between environmental risk factors (e.g., chemicals, drugs, diet, lifestyles), environmentally-induced immune dysfunction and the full range of resulting chronic diseases and conditions. There is a detailed discussion of specific immune-based chronic diseases and conditions that emerge in children and adults and affect different physiological systems. The book integrates a consideration of risk factors and specific immunotoxic alterations with disease outcomes. A significant number of diseases and conditions are discussed, such as systemic allergic diseases affecting the lung, skin and gastrointestinal tract, systemic autoimmune diseases (type 1 diabetes,multiple sclerosis and lupus) and chronic conditions that are not traditionally associated with chemically-mediated immunomodulation (depression, frailty, and atherosclerosis). Inflammatory dysregulation is a common thread that connects many of the diseases and conditions discussed in this book and provides a central focus. Individual chapters are organized by disease with the addition of chapters that provide integrative information on: 1) patterns of disease comorbidities and 2) the safety testing of chemicals and drugs to reduce the risk of immune dysfunction. Each chapter contains a summary of key points as well as recommendations when appropriate. The book stresses the benefits of identifying the environmental risk factors of immune-mediated chronic disease and the potential to reduce the prevalence of these diseases and conditions. This volume is a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, risk assessors and regulators and students. Аннотация: В монографии приведены результаты анализа обширного фактического материала по строению почв лесных территорий Европейской России от лесостепи до северной тайги. Рассмотрены особенности развития почв в ходе сукцессий лесных экосистем. Показано, что жизнедеятельность биоты, включая биогенные педотурбации, является ведущим фактором формирования почв в лесных экосистемах при их свободном развитии. Оценен вклад различных элементов традиционного природопользования (рубка, распашка, выпас, выжигание и пр.) в долговременную динамику почвенного покрова лесной зоны Европейской России. Показаны возможности применения макроморфологических методов анализа почвенного профиля для реконструкции истории лесных территорий. Аннотация: This study had two main aims. The first was to increase knowledge of forest fuel systems utilising tree sections, especially that concerning interactions with factors external to the system. The second was to develop the technique of "retrospective position analysis" as a means of evaluating projects. Position analysis is identified as an adequate evaluation method and is retrospectively applied to the of projects. Position analysis permits broad-system studies and process evaluation of each project, which gives a good base for understanding the effects and outcome of projects and of the system as a whole. The main conclusion from evaluation of tree-section systems is that, although there was much activity in the mid 1980s, utilisation decreased in the early 1990s, owing to low oil prices and to the low price of other biofuels. An increase in the quality requirements of pulp and primary paper products during the evaluation period, made it difficult for tree-section systems to attain the new grades. The technical development of tree-section systems is also lagging behind. However, a few local tree-section systems still are competitive

Аннотация: This volume is the second of an Atlas with large maps showing the natural distribution or range of the native tree species of continental United States. The 82 species maps include 32 of trees, 6 of shrubs rarely reaching tree size, and 44 more of common shrubs. Range is shown by lines and dots on a map of Alaska, scale 1:10,000,000. Also, 23 general maps summarize environmental factors and supply background information on geograpgy, geology, climate, and vegetation. These basic maps indicate the broad conditions under which each species grows wild and may serve as a preliminary forest atlas of the 49th State.
