Аннотация: This book was conceived as a result of many years of study throughout the deciduous forest. Its purpose is to give a broad and coordinated account of the entire deciduous forest - a comprehensive view which may make possible the better understanding of fragments of forest and give a setting for past and future local and detailed studies. This volume will serve as a textbook for students, forester and ecologist

Кл.слова (ненормированные):
diameter growth%site index

Аннотация: In recent years there have been many advances towards the practice of forestry in British Columbia. Among these have been attampts at regulating the annual cut in accordance with the principles of sustained yield. This has drawn attention to methods of assessing the growth potentialities of logged lands. This report gives a practical method for estimating the site-quality of logged land in terms of site index and of forest associations, either of which may be of value to the forester. More field data have gone into the preparation of a method for predicting forest associations than into the site-index method, and the former has a higher degree of success in prediction. Four site classes, however, have been predicted in terms of site index as compared to three forest associations. It should be stressed that this method of estimating site-quality, by means of stump diameter-growth measurements, is not an exact one, but merely serves as a rough guide toward the mapping of logged land.

Аннотация: The expansion in forestry planting since the end of the first world war has provided foresters in Britain with a great deal of fresh knowledge about the particular insect problems associated with these new habitats in different phases of crop life. Most of the 280 species described here are common subjects of enquiry, although some are relatively new exotic pests. This guide aims to aid recognition and enable the reader to take appropriate decisions. This book is a valuable handbook for the naturalist as well as the field forester, manager and arboriculturist.

Кл.слова (ненормированные):
moisture factor, distribution of soils, environment

Аннотация: The paper aims to make an assessment of the extent, climate controls the distribution of vegetation and soils in any region of the globe. For this purpose the region of Uttar Pradesh , an important and extensive province of this countriy has been chosen, preferably because it shows almost all types of climate. The climates of the province have been delineated according to rational scheme of Thornthwaite (1948) in its thermal regime and the scheme of Thornthwaite and Mather (1955) in its moisture regime. The climatic correlations with the vegetation types has been made. It is concluded that the moisture factor controlling the distribution of vegetation types. However in the Northern hilly region thermal factor outweighs the moisture factor. The distribution of soils has been compared with that of climates. It is also concluded that none of the 'three great patterns of earth' viz. climate, vegetation and soils can be subjected to comprehensive and detailed study in isolation of the other two. Thus complete picture of the environment can be seen only when all the three are studied together.

mechanism of game management -- fluctuation and density -- management technique

Аннотация: This book has three purposes. First, to serve as a text for those practising game management or studying it as a profession. Second, to interpret for the thinking sportsman or naturelover the significance of some of the things he sees while afield with gun or glass, or does in his capacity as a voting conservationist. The third, to explain to the naturalist, biologist, agricultural expert, and forester how his own science relates to game management, and how his practices condition its application to the land. In short, this book describes the art of cropping land for game and points the way toward its integration with other land uses

Аннотация: This handbook was written as a practical reference on tecniques of aerial photo interpretation in forest inventory. It is for the forester with a casual knowledge of the subject. This manual emphasizes stereoscopic interpretation of vertical aerial photographs available from various sciences of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). With training, the forester can use aerial photographs to locate property boundaries and trials, determine bearings and distances, identify classes of vegetation, and measure areas.

Аннотация: Forest Wildlife Ecology and Habitat Management provides both foresters and wildlife biologists resposible for managing forest resources with an integrated understanding of the relationship between forests and wildlife. Based on David Patton's 50 years of experience as a forester and wildlife biologist, the book shows readers how tolook at forests as ecological systems and wildlife as part of the energy flow and nutrient cycling process within those systems. He offers readers a fundamental understanding of the natural processes that occur in a forest taking into consideration vegetation, water, and the natural effects of climate and time and e.t.c.
