Аннотация: This report was written in May 1977 at the Argonne National Laboratory at the completion of my seven months of study and research in Computer Science in the United States, supported by the Sweden-America Foundation. It was written partly to express my gratitude to the hosts during my stay in America, partly to inform the IFIP Working Group on Numerical Software of my Experiences, and also to be a report to the sponsoring foundation. First some personal impressions on the life in the United States are given, after which I discuss some interesting facts regarding recent hardware and software development. Four computer conferences, as well as the six regular university classes I attended, are summarized. The opinions in this report are strictly my own personal opinions, and neither those of the sponsoring organizations, visited institutions, no of my home affiliation.

Аннотация: Since 1957, the International Union of Forest Organizations, Sect. 24, has a working group studying what can be done about forets tree diseases that might be dangerous if the the pathogen moved great distances, as from one continent to another. The group was agreed to limit the scope of the work initialy to a few genera of forest trees. In 1958, it was proposed to start with the diseases of the genera Pinus, Populus, and Quercus. On the the basis of these lists, a joint list of parasitical fungi on species of the genera Pinus, Populus and Quercus, and a list of the hosts of the fungi have been made.

The mites and the beetles together are considered with regard to size correlations, the degree of host specificity, the mites as taxonomic indicators of their hosts, biogeography, life history, and the role of egg parasitism by the mites in the population regulation of their hosts.
