Аннотация: This volume deals with the isolation, fusion, culture, immobillization, cryopreservation and ultrastructural studies on protoplasts and the regeneration of somatic hybrids and cybrids. The technology and literature on the regeneration of complete plants from protoplasts of rice, potato, soybean, linseed,cabbage, chicory, lettuce, butterbur, orchids, citrus and some other tree species are discussed. Various methods of fusion and determination of viability are reviewed, and the work on interspecific and intergenetic somatic hybridization in Lycopersicon, Petunia, Nicotiana, Solanum, Glycine, Citrus, Brassica, Medicago, and Trifolium species is presented. Аннотация: The hypothesis was tested that red spruce and black spruce are two distinct species which are capable of hybridizing, and that intrigressive hybridization or introgression has occurred since Pleistocene glaciations. Evidence was obtained from the literature regarding F1 hybrids, isolating mechanisms, and the possible evolution of the species. Data are presented concerning morphological variation of seedlings in provenance tests, and of trees in natural stands. Mosr samples from the overlapping range showed a proportion of individuals typical of one species with other individuals showing a degree of resemblance to the other species. In these latter individuals, character assotiation was evident. While the data are not conclusive, they are compatible with the theory of introgression

Аннотация: There is a growing interest in Siberian larch species among researchers and practicioners from abroad, mainly due to their fast growth and excellent wood properties. Some attempts of introducing Siberian larch species as commercial plantations have already been initiated in western countries. However, the knowledge of botanical, ecological and silvicultural features of Siberian larch species is rather poor outside of Russia. Because of its economic importance for Russian forestry the Siberian larch species have been comprehensively studied for many years and many papers as well as a number of monographs have been published, most of them in Russian. The large Russian expertise concerning regionalisation of seed sources, seed crop and quality, seed orchards, seedling production in nurseries and silvicultural practices in commercial plantations beyond their range of natural distribution is presented in this report. May it support foreign foresters in their efforts to enlarge use of Siberian larch species.

Аннотация: The aim of this study is to analyze whether there are systematic differences in the flowering parameters, their geographical correlations or in adaption to climate between the two birch species. Are the effects of temperature and the light factor equal for both species, and do they differ from those controlling Norway spruce and Scots pine? Is Linsser's principle of proportional heat sums valid for birch species? This book studied and the other questions. To answer these questions, the within-year and the between-year variations in the timing of anthesis involved were measured and tested with the three parameters using two alternative reference points, median of anthesis and peak pollen catch day. The geographical variation of pollen catches was also measured and possible geographical correlations were sought.
