Interpretation and Processing of Vibrational Spectra
[Текст] : монография / Milan Horak, Antonin Vitek. - Chichester ; New York ; Brisbane : John Wiley & Sons, 1978%. - 414 с. - 6.35 р.

Аннотация: The handbook contains a description of and methodological hints concerning basic procedures for the handling and interpretation of vibrational spectra. All commonly-used definitions, mathematical relationships, tables of constants, conversion factors and computation schemes for numerical treatment of experimental values have been collectedThe book is supplemented with FORTRAN programs for the computer solution of many problems in molecular spectroscopy. The handbook has been written for graduate chemists (and also high-school graduated chemists), who interpret IR and Raman spectra obtained on their samples. The subject matter is thus limited only to those fields of experimental techniques which are reflected in the quality of the spectra and must be consideredin the handling and analysis of spectra. Other problems, e.g. the construction of commercial spectrometers and calculations of force constants, have not been treated in the book. The material contained in the handbook should suffice for independent handling of vibrational spectra in organic chemistry (and possibly also inorganic and macromolecular chemistry).

The Boltzmann Equation and Its Applications
[Текст] : монография. 67 / Carlo Cercignani. - New York ; Berlin ; Heidelberg : Springer-Verlag, 1988. - 455 с. : With 42 illustrations. - (Applied Mathematical Sciences). - Bibliogr. at the end of the chapters. - 1.20 р.

Аннотация: Statistical mechanics may be naturally divided into two branches, one dealing with the equilibrium systems, the other with nonequilibrium systems. The equilibrium properties of macroscopic systems are defined in principle by suitable averages in well-defined Gibb's ensembles. This provides a framework for both qualitative understanding and quantitative approximations to equilibrium behaviour. Nonequilibrium phenomena are much less understood at the present time. A notable exception is offered by the case of dilute gases. Here are basic equation was established by Ludwig Boltzmann in 1872.The Boltzmann equation still forms the basis for the kinetic theory of gases and has proved fruitfull not only for a study of the classical gases Boltzmann had in mind but also, properly generalized, for studying electron transport in solids and platsmas, neutron transport in nuclear reactors, phonon transport in superfluids, and radiative transfer in planetaryand stellar atmospheres. Research in both the new fields and the old one has undergone a considerable advance in last thirty years. In the last ten years, a new wave of interest has surrounded the Boltzmann equation, stemming from its unique role in the theory of time-dependent phenomena in large systems. In fact, the Boltzmann equation appears as a prototype of a reduced description taking into account only partial information about the underlying microscopic state (fully described by the coordinate and the momenta of all the molecules), but nevertheless undergoing an autonomous time evolution. Thus the problem of the rigorous derivation of the Boltzmann equation from the microscopic description has attracted a certain amount of interest among physicists and mathematicians. This, in turn, has revived the interest in the theory of existence and uniqueness of the solutionsof the Boltzmann equation, since this problem has proved to be intimately tied with the previous one. This justifies the present book (which tries to present a unified approach to the problems arising in different fields mentioned above) by exploiting the similarities whenever they exist and underlining the differences when necessary. The main line of exposition, however, is tied to the classical equation established by Boltzmann, and hence the detailed description of some applications almost exclusively refer to monatomic neutral gases. Appropriate references are given, however, to papers dealing with similar problems arising in other fields, with particular concern for neutron transport, gas mixtures, and polyatomic gases. The material dealing with the basic properties and applications known before 1975 was covered in the previous book by the author; thus, it was natural to incorporate in the present book the material of the first seven chapters of that book. This material is updated in an extensive Appendix, coveringthe developments from 1975 to 1987. But the main feature of the book is Chapter VIII, completely rewritten and covering the important studies resulting from new mathematical approaches to the old problem of existence and uniqueness, and the new once tied up with the question of validity. There is still no satisfactory prooffor existence of solutions under general reasonable initial conditions. The material presented here indicates, however, that a great deal of progress has been achievedin recent times. There is no doubt that the better understanding resulting from this progress will be essential to the further penetration to be expectedin the next few years. It is hoped that the book will be usefull as a textbook for an advanced course in kinetic theory and as a reference for mathematicians, physicists, and engineers interested in the kinetic theory of gases and its applications.

    Practical Optimization
[Text] : монография / P. E. Gill, W. Murray, M. H. Wright. - London [et al.] : Academic Press ; Sydney ; San Francisco, 1981. - 401 p. - 35.00 р.

Аннотация: Numerical optimization and parameter estimation are essential tools in a widevariety of applications, such as engineering, science, medecine, sociology and economics. For these optimization techniques to be exploited effectively, problem solvers need to be fully informed of the scope and organization of software for both the specialist and non-specialist; the underlying numerical methods; the aspects of problem formulation that affect performance; the assessment of computer results and the resolution of difficulties that may occur during the solution process. These topics form the basis of the organization of Practical Optimization. Much of the material about the estimation of results and the preparation of the problem has not been previously published. The book contains a description of methods for numerical optimization to a level which should make it a useful course text. It is intended that the book should be self-contained. Consequently, those elements of calculus, linear algebra and numerical analysis pertinent to optimization are reviewed in the opening chapters. This is the first book on optimization which discusses not only the methods but also the analysis of computed results and the preparation of problems before solution. This volume will prove invaluable to those industry, university and research establishments who are actively engaged in solving optimization problems and to those who are potential users of optimization software.

Аннотация: The public information available on the Web today is larger the information distributed on any other media/ The raw nature of Web content, the unpredictable remote changes that can affect it, the wide variaty of formats concerned, and the growth in data-driven websites make the preservation of this material a challenging task, requiring specific monitoring, collecting and preserving strategies, procedures and tools. Julien Masanes, Director of the European Archive, has assembled contributions from computer scientists and librarians that altogether encompass the complete range of tools, tasks and processes needed to successfully preserve the cultural heritage of the Web. His book serves as a standard introduction for everyone involved in keeping alive the immense amount of online information, and it covers issues related to building, using and preserving Web archives both from the computer scientist and librarian viewpoints. Practitioners will find in this book a state-of-the-art overview of methods, tools and standards they need for their activities. Researchers as well as advanced students in computer science will use it as an introduction to this new field with a hopefully stimulating review of open issues where future work is needed

The basis of this book is composed on the monographs: 1. Kuznetsov D.F. Strong Approximation of Multiple Ito and Stratonovich Stochastic Integrals. Multiple Fourier series approach. St.-Petersburg Polytechnical University Press, St.-Petersburg. 2011. 282 p. (in English); 2.Dmitriy Kuznetsov. Approximation of Multiple Ito and Stratonovich Stochastic Integrals. Multiple Fourier series approach. AV Akademikerverlag, Saarbrucken. 2012, 300 p. (In English), which are the first monographs where the problem of strong (mean-square) approximation of multiple Ito and Stratonovich Stochastic Integrals is systematically analyzed in the context of numerical integration of stochastic differential Ito equations.
The presented book and mentioned monographs successfully use the tool of multiple and iterative Fourier series, built in the space L2 and pointwise, for the strong approximations of multiple stochastic integrals and open a new direction in researching of Multiple Ito and Stratonovich Stochastic Integrals.
We obtained a general result connected with expansion of multiple Ito stochastic integrals of any fixed multiplicity k, based on generalized multiple Fourier series converging in the space L2([t,T]. ). This result is adapted for multiple Stratonovich stochastic integrals of 1-4 multiplicity for Legendre polynomial system and system of trigonometric functions, as well as for other types of multiple stochastic integrals. The theorem on expansion of multiple Stratonovich stochastic integrals with any fixed multiplicity k, based on generalized Fourier series converging pointwise is verified.
We obtained exact expressions for mean-square errors of approximations of multiple Ito stochastic integrals of 1-4 multiplicity. We provided a significant practical material devoted to approximation of specific multiple Ito and Stratonovich stochastic integrals of 1-5 multiplicity using the system of Legendre polynomials and the system of trigonometric functions. We compared the methods formulated in this book with existing methods. We consider some weak approximations of multiple Ito stochastic integrals.
We proved the theorems about integration order replacement for multiple Ito stochastic integrals according to martingale. We brought out two families of analytical formulas for calculation of stochastic integrals.
This book will be interesting to specialists dealing with the theory of stochastic processes, applied and computational mathematics, senior students and postgraduates of technical institutes and universities, as well as for computer experts.

Аннотация: Continuing in the tradition of its bestselling predecessor, the Handbook of Ecological Indicators for Assessment of Ecosystem Health, Second Edition brings together world-class editors and contributors who have been at the forefront of ecosystem health assessment research for decades, to provide a sound approach to environmental management and sustainable development. Significantly updated and expanded, this authoritative resource details a proven framework for selecting, evaluating, and validating ecological indicators for ecosystem health assessment. It guides readers through the application of this framework to a wide range of ecosystems, including wetlands, estuaries, coastal zones, lakes, forests, marine ecosystems, lagoons, agricultural systems, landscapes, and rivers. The text synthesizes material from a variety of books, journals, and private research, to consider biodiversity, energy needs, ecological economics, and natural capital in the measurement of ecological health. Organized for ease of reference, the first part of the handbook provides the required theoretical background. It presents a complete overview of all relevant ecological indicators—including thermodynamics, resilience estimates, exergy, and emergy indicators. The second part focuses on how to effectively apply the ecological indicators to a number of important ecosystems. It includes many examples and case studies that clearly illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of each method for specific applications. Offering first-hand insight and practical guidance from practitioners in the field, this complete resource supplies the tools and the well-rounded understanding required to diagnose the health of virtually any ecosystem with much improved accuracy. Every process in physics is governed by selection rules that are the consequence of symmetry requirements. The beauty and strength of group theory resides in the transformation of many complex symmetry operations into a very simple linear algebra. This concise and class-tested book has been pedagogically tailored over 30 years MIT and 2 years at the University Federal of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil. The approach centers on the conviction that teaching group theory in close connection with applications helps students to learn, understand and use it for their own needs. For this reason, the theoretical background is confined to the first 4 introductory chapters (6-8 classroom hours). From there, each chapter develops new theory while introducing applications so that the students can best retain new concepts, build on concepts learned the previous week, and see interrelations between topics as presented. Essential problem sets between the chapters also aid the retention of the new material and for the consolidation of material learned in previous chapters. The text and problem sets have proved a useful springboard for the application of the basic material presented here to topics in semiconductor physics, and the physics of carbon-based nanostructures.
