Аннотация: A wide antagonistic spectrum was demonsrated both within and between the species. The inhibition established was of a fungistatic type. In order to widen the knowlwdge of the variation in sensivity of F. annosus, 85 isolated mainly from field trials in Norway spruce were selected and screened to three strongly active mucorrhiza-forming fungi. As a rule all root rot isolates were highly sensitive to all three antagonists. Only three exceptions were obtained. A strong correlation exists between the time advantage and the toxic level obtained

Аннотация: Mycorrhiza-forming species mainly of the genera Amanita, Boletus and others and some litter-decomposing species were employed. For ecological characterisation of the experimental material, most of these species were tested for the ability to produce the extra-cellular enzymes, cellulase, pectinase, proteinase and laccase. The result from experimental series having raw humus as the only nitrogen source indicated that the myccorhiza-forming fungi, like most of the litter-decomposers, could utilise to a very limited extent or not at all the nitrogen bound in the humus. The inoculation of cultures of pine seedlings on gamma-sterilised, N15- labelled raw humus with pure culture suspensions of different mycorrhiza-formers and litter-decomposers influenced to varying degrees both the supply of assimilable nitrogen and plant development.

Аннотация: In the present paper it is shown how Boletus subtomentosus, that normally is a mycorrhiza forming fungus can stimulate the development of pine plants. A physiological strain of this fungus is used which has the ability to decompose litter. The typical mycorrhiza fungus also stimulated the plant growth to a certain extent. However, the stimulating effect ceased when strong fertilization was used or when the light intensity was reduced. Constant illumination resulted in the plants developing well and with good mycorrhiza formation. When the period of illumination was reduced to 16 hours a day the plants developed less vigorously and the mycorrhiza formation was reduced.

Аннотация: A study has been made of the effects of different methods of fertilizing spruce plants (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) in the nursery before planting them on Calluna heath land in S.W. Sweden. It was found that the use of superphosphate led to strongly stimulated development of the plants after planting. The same was also the case after fertilizing with NPK, while the use of only a similar amount of nitrogen or potassium as is contained in NPK did not have a positive effect. The growth of spruce was often further promoted if a dose of lime (5,000 kg/ha) was added in the nursery. Fertilization after planting was effective only if carried out after the plants had overcome the stunt period of juvenile development.
