Аннотация: There is a growing interest in Siberian larch species among researchers and practicioners from abroad, mainly due to their fast growth and excellent wood properties. Some attempts of introducing Siberian larch species as commercial plantations have already been initiated in western countries. However, the knowledge of botanical, ecological and silvicultural features of Siberian larch species is rather poor outside of Russia. Because of its economic importance for Russian forestry the Siberian larch species have been comprehensively studied for many years and many papers as well as a number of monographs have been published, most of them in Russian. The large Russian expertise concerning regionalisation of seed sources, seed crop and quality, seed orchards, seedling production in nurseries and silvicultural practices in commercial plantations beyond their range of natural distribution is presented in this report. May it support foreign foresters in their efforts to enlarge use of Siberian larch species.

Аннотация: In the present paper the reasons for differences in plant height within full-sib families of Norway spruce are discussed. In many cases it was shown that the duration of the growth period to some extent was responsible for the differences in plant height. If the total plant height is plotted against the percentage growth 4 or 5 weeks before growth termination, clones with good growth rhythm characteristics could conveniently be identified. Therefore this technique is recommended for selection of ortets in nurseries.

Аннотация: Development of growth disturbances in bare-rooted Scots pine seedlings (Pinus silvestris L.) was investigated. The role of Lygus bugs, especially L. rugulipennis Popp., was also studied. The material was collected from seven nurseries in southern and central Finland during 1983, 1984 and 1986. All stages of Lygus bug were found in each of the nurseries studied. The growth disturbances of one year old pine seedlings were classified according to the time when the disturbances began to develop.

Аннотация: Effect of fertilization on the incidence of summer shoots, nutrient concentration and morphology of bare-root pine seedlings was studied in two nursery experiments during two successive years. In both experiments three levels of top-dressing fertilization were studied, as well autumn fertilization and maintenance dressing before transplanting. Seedlings grown in two nursery experiments were planted and their performance was monitored 7-8 years after planting.
