The field has accelerated in recent decades as computing power has grown substantially. Subjects addressed include: representing two-dimensional chemical structures with molecular graphs, ligand- and structure-based virtual screening, structure enumeration and sampling, computer-aided molecular design (inverse design and de novo design), reaction network generation, and machine learning-based bioinformatics algorithms and their application to chemicals. Аннотация: Resource Economics is a text for students with a background in calculus and intermediate microeconomics and a familiarity with the spreadsheet program Excel. The book covers basic concepts (Chapter 1); shows how to set up spreadsheets to solve simple dynamic allocation problems (Chapter 2); and presents economic models for fisheries, forestry, nonrenewable resources, and stock pollutants (Chapters 3–6). Chapter 7 examines the maximin utility criterion when the utility of a generation depends on consumption of a manufactured good, harvest from a renewable resource, or extraction from a nonrenewable resource. Within the text, numerical examples are posed and solved using Excel’s Solver. Exercises are included at the end of each chapter. These problems help to make concepts operational, develop economic intuition, and serve as a bridge to the study of real-world problems in resource management. Jon M. Conrad is Professor of Resource Economics in the Department of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. He taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, from 1973 to 1977, joining the Cornell faculty in 1978. His research interests focus on the use of dynamic optimization techniques to manage natural resources and environmental quality. He has published articles in the Journal of Political Economy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the Canadian Journal of Economics, Land Economics, Marine Resource Economics, Biomathematics, Ecological Economics, Natural Resource Modeling, and the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, where he served as an Associate Editor. He is coauthor, with Colin Clark, of the text Natural Resource Economics: Notes and Problems (Cambridge University Press, 1987) and is past President of the Resource Modeling Association. Cambridge published the first edition of Resource Economics in 1999.

Аннотация: The forest ecosystems of the southern United States are the region's predominant and use and comprise vital resources of economic and biological significance. These forests, covering 85 million hectares, or 40% of the land area, are subject to numerous physical and chemical strssors. Temperature, precipitation, and soil nutrients are three factors that currently limit forest ecosystem health and productivity in the region. In a changing global environment, these forest ecosystems face an unprecedented rate of change and will be directly and indirectly affected by additional stresses from air pollutants and climate change, including increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, other trace gases and atmospheric aerosols, and altered land use patterns.

Аннотация: The aim of the present study has been to evaluate the extension of eventual influences on the surrounding vegetation of the emission from the iron-sintering plant in Sweden- in close proximity to the communities Koskullskulle, Malmberget and Gallivare. The yearly emission of sulphur dioxide and hydrogen fluoride has been around 2000 ton and 175 ton, respectively for the last years. The content of sulphur and fluorine in the needles of Scots pine from the sample plots has been analysed and correlated to the emission source. The needle drop of coniferous trees, well-known from air polluted areas, has been quantitatively recorded and correlated with the occurrence and physiological reactions in some lichen species from the emission source.

Аннотация: The effects of pollutants on the mechanisms which predispose forest trees to biotic diseases and pests are reviewed, as well as their effects on the disease causing organisms and the most important fungal and insect damage. In general, indirect effects due to the increased susceptibility of the trees are more important than direct effects on the damage causing organisms. Fungal diseases caused by facultative subrobes can be favoured by pollution.
