Аннотация: В монографии на основе анализа литературных данных и результатов многих полевых исследований рассмотрены закономерности лесовозобновительных процессов на вырубках в наиболее распространенных типах леса в Приобских борах лесостепной зоны Западной Сибири, связанные с мезорельефом, развитием травяного покрова. источниками обсеменения. Показаны особенности лесовозобновительных процессов на вырубках по гарям и на типичных вырубках. Определены перспективы лесовозобновления вырубок естественным путем. Рассмотрены и пре6дложены оптимальные способы искусственного лесовосстановления с использованием крупномерных саженцев из улучшенных семян.

Аннотация: В монографии содержатся результаты изучения воспроизводства почв в антропогенно нарушенных ландшафтах (на датированных поверхностях) в различных биоклиматических условиях лесостепной зоны. Аннотация: Focused on stem cell applications, this book bridges the fields of biomaterials, offering new insights into constructing and regenerating tissues and organs. Its unique feature is linking diseases of the human body to current thinking on how to deal with them in the context of current concepts and technologies by means of an in-depth focus on biomaterials. The book assembles recent advances and covers a range of topics related to stem cell biology, biomaterials and technological approaches such as bioreactors written by top researchers in the field. Аннотация: Microcatchment water harvesting (MCWH) improved the survival and growth of planted trees on heavy soils in Eastern Kenya five to six years after planting. In the best method, the cross-tied furrow microcatchments, the main annual increments (MAI; based on the average biomass of living trees multiplied by tree density and survival) of the total and usable biomass in PROSOPIS JULIFLORA were 2787 and 1610 kg ha-1 a-1 respectively, when the initial tree density was 500 to 1667 trees per hegtare. Based on survival, the idigenous ACACIA HORRIDA, A. MELLIFERA and A. ZANZIBARICA were the most suitable species for planting using MCWH. When both survival and yield were considered, a local seed source of the introduced P.JULIFLORA was superior to all other species. The MAI in MCWH was at the best distinctly higher than that in natural vegetation (163-307 and 66-111 kg ha-1 a-1 for total and usable biomass respectively); this cannot satisfy the fuelwood demand of concentrated populations, such as towns or irrigation schemes. The density of seeds of woody species in the topsoil was 40.1 seeds m-2 in the ACACIA- COMMIPHORA bushland and 12.6 seeds m-2 in the zone between the bushland and the Tana riverine forest. Rehabilitation of woody vegetation using the soil seed bank alone proved difficult due to the lack of seeds of desirable species. The regeneration and dynamics of woody vegetation were also studied both in cleared and undisturbed bushland. A sub-type of ACACIA-COMMIPHORA bushland was identified as ACACIA REFICIENS bushland, in which the dominant COMMIPHORA species is C.CAMPESTRIS. Most of the woody species did not have even-aged populations but cohort structures that were skewed towards young individuals. The woody vegetation and the status of soil nutrients were estimated to recover in 15-20 years on Vertic Natrargid soils after total removal of above-ground vegetation

Аннотация: The renewability of the forest is an important factor affecting our long-term economy, as it provides the basis for the sustained or continious yield of forest products from land best suited to this crop. Success in forest management depends primarily on the establishmentn of adequate regeneration of disirable species as soon as possible after the mature forest is cut. Tis therefore important in preparing to implement a sustained-yield management policy to know how well this requirement is being met under present operating conditions, and it was with the oject of having a comprehensive statement on the situation in Ontario that the Research Council of Ontario requested Prof. Hosie to review and report on the regeneration surveys that had been undertaken by various government and industrial agebsies in this Province.

Аннотация: In recent years, the boreal forest has received increased scientific attention in light of projected climatic warming to boreal regions from increased concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide. The ecological consequences of such a warming could be significant. However, before the consequences of climatic change can be properly investigated, the ecology of boreal forest tree species must be adequately understood. Though the life-histories of many North American boreal forest tree species are well known, little comparable information has been compiled in English for the major boreal forest tree species of the Soviet Union. In this paper. we present a preliminary description of the silvics of seven of these species - their ranges, optimum climatic and soil conditions, regeneration characteristics, tree growth features, responces to sub-optimal site conditions, and reaction to fire. We hope that this information will provide a useful data base for use in modeling the ecology of these species.

Аннотация: Analyses of aggregated data of the dynamics of Russian forests during the period from 1966 to 1993 have identified a rather stable development of Forested Areas (FA) and growing stock (an increase of 8% and 5%, respectively). Unforested Areas (UFA) have decreased significantly; for example, the total amount od unforested burned areas declined from 68.4 to 31.9 million ha over the period. Average growing stock by age groups increased for all main forest-forming species (excluding mature and overmature coniferous stands). Development in the growing stock in European Russia has been positive, but Asian Russia has experienced a rather sever decline. Studies of the 1983-1993 period show somewhat different results. Official data show that the total growing stock for Russia underwent aserous decline over this period. An adjistment for systematic inventory errors still show that there has been a substantial decrease in the growing stock in Asian Russia. The decline identified during this latter period cannot be explained by the harvest carried out, but is probably due to disturbances such as forest fires, pest, insects, and anthropogenic activities. From analyses, it can be concluded that the quality of the forests has been seriously impoverished in Russia during the 1966-1993 period. This impovershment is due to severe local overharvesting in regions witrh development infrastructure and to so-called creaming - namely, the harvesting of the best stands of specific species over huge areas. There are still vast areas of unexploited and unmanaged forests in Russia. In spite of serious shortcomings in Russian forest management, the stability of Russian boreal forests and their capasity for natural regeneration seem to be extremely high.
