Аннотация: This monograph is devoted to the problems of design of experiments and statistical data processing. Аннотация: This study is a first step in the direction of using PDP system to model regular non-catastrophic individual tree mortality. The study demonstrated that such an approach is promising in comparison to the widely used logistic regression approach. Аннотация: The aim of this study is to estimate supply functions of forest enterprises using econometric methods. To put the emperical estimations and statistical tests on a good theoretical basis a profound discussion of hypotheses about possible and plausible behaviour of forest enterprises is needed. This is achieved in the first part of the study using simple theoretical models of forest enterprises and linear optimization approach. In the second part of the study based on time series data and linear single-equation regression models supply functions for both main products are estimated. Аннотация: This report examines the domestic consumption patterns of forest products for the period 1960-2000 as well as projecting the domestic consumption. The projection methodology involves a two-step procedure. First, multiple regression analysis is used to relate the consumption of a specific forest product to a distributed lag of some general measure of economic activity (e.g. real gross domestic product in the construction industry). Second, forecasts of the measures of economic activity up to the year 2000 are obtained and placed into the models developed in step 1 in order to generate the final projections.

Аннотация: The purpose of this paper is to derive yield tables for beech. The material consists of 39 permanent sample plots in beech stands. The development of top height during the study was used as the basis for deriving height development curves. With the aid of these, individual stands were referred to a certain height quality class, defined as the top height of the stand at a total age of 100 years. Basal area increment was culculated by a function obtained by regression analysis, with the help of the material. The yield tables reproduce the average stand development and yield when site quality class, the initial stand and the thinning programme are given. In individual stands, yield deviates from the table , as a rule. The deviations depend partly on experiment error, e.g. errors in estimating basal area increment, and partly on the influence of factors not taken into account by variables in the increment function.

Аннотация: Data from 29 experimental plots in oak plantations are reported and have been utilized in constructing yield tables. The development of top height in indivudual experimental plots has been made the basis for deriving height development curves. In constructing the yield tables the increment per cent in basal area has been calculated by means of a function obtained from regression analysis of the emperical data. It has assumed that the development of top height follows the derived curves. Special account has been taken of the effect of undergrowth on the oak stands. The content of the fine soil fraction is of great interest. This factor, in combination with site index, has been tested as a variable and in the regression analysis. In all functions it proved to be powerful variable and led to greater precisions in the determination of the increment per cent in basal area. The tables show the average stand development for given site quality, here defined in terms of top height at an age of 100 years and content of the fine soil fraction, initial stand and thinning programme.

Аннотация: Data on survival, stem height, stem volume and yield per hectare from a provenance trial with Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) at Nordanas, lat 64 grad. 19', long 18 grad. 09', alt 400 m, are presented in this report. Regression analyses were carried out to test the influence of transfer on the parameters studied. For the most important characteristics, yield per hectare and survival, it was found that a transfer by 1-2 latitudes southward will imply an improvement. Since the progenies from individual trees within thepopulations were kept apart the variation within populations could be analysed. This variation was found to be considerable both for survival and height in some of the populations.

Аннотация: The aim of this study is to establish functional relationships between site index and site properties, which can be used for predicting site index in forestry. The functions are derived from a mathematical frowth model, assuming that the effects of different growth factors interact in a multiplicative way. Data selected from the National Forest Survey and comprising more than 3 000 plots are used to estimate the parameters of the model by means of regression analysis. In total, 10 functions are constructed - 6 for Scots pine an 4 for Nrway spruce. These functions are checcked by an examination of residuals and by a comparison with data not used for constructing the functions. The checks gave fairly satisfactory results, and the functions seem suitable for their purpose.

Аннотация: By means of results from provenance trials in northern Sweden, a map of severity index for various latitudes and altitudes was drawn up. The severity index is defined as the expected percentage plant mortality rate in the local population during the first 20 years after establishment of the plantation. By combining transfer effects based on data from all trials, a general trend of the transfer effect was calculated. The regression obtained showed that, at constant altitude, each degree of transfer southwards meant an increase of survival of 10.8 percentage units; at constant latitude, every 100 metres of downward transfer implied an increase in survival of 3.0 percentage units.Optimum transfer is defined as the transfer giving maximum volume yield, which equals 70-80 per cent survival.
