Аннотация: The handbook contains a description of and methodological hints concerning basic procedures for the handling and interpretation of vibrational spectra. All commonly-used definitions, mathematical relationships, tables of constants, conversion factors and computation schemes for numerical treatment of experimental values have been collectedThe book is supplemented with FORTRAN programs for the computer solution of many problems in molecular spectroscopy. The handbook has been written for graduate chemists (and also high-school graduated chemists), who interpret IR and Raman spectra obtained on their samples. The subject matter is thus limited only to those fields of experimental techniques which are reflected in the quality of the spectra and must be consideredin the handling and analysis of spectra. Other problems, e.g. the construction of commercial spectrometers and calculations of force constants, have not been treated in the book. The material contained in the handbook should suffice for independent handling of vibrational spectra in organic chemistry (and possibly also inorganic and macromolecular chemistry).

Аннотация: Рассматриваются теоретические вопросы классификации озер. Приводится обзор существующих классификаций озер. Большое внимание уделяется методам расчета признаков многокритериальной классификации озер в условиях неопределенности исходной информации. Вводятся многомерные классы озер, согласованные между собой шкалы и градации для исходных параметров классификации, обучающие выборки для каждого класса, решающие правила отнесения неизученных озер к известному классу. Обсуждаются результаты гидрологического районирования территории в зависимости от распределения озер разных классов. Книга предназначена для специалистов, связанных по роду своей деятельности с оценкой и охраной водных ресурсов, а также может быть полезна для студентов гидрологических, географических и гидрометеорологических специальностей. Fundamentals of lakes classification are considered. Existing classifications of lakes are reviewed. Much attention is paid to the methods of computation of indices of multi-criteria classification. Multi-dimension classes of lakes, coherent scales and sub-scales of initial parameters of classification are given. Training samples of lakes for each class of classification were composed. The results of grouping of insufficiently explored lakes are proposed. The results of hydrological regionalization of lakes made in accordance with their grouping are discussed. The book is intended for students of hydrological, geographical and hydrometeorological professional lines and experts working in the field of estimating and protection of water resources.

Аннотация: The conditions of the sorption preconcentration of phenols from samples of natural and potable waters in Diapak P concentrator cartridges filled with super-cross-linked polystyrene are optimized. Countercurrent desorption with acetonitrile or methanol ensures the elimination the step of organic solvent evaporation. The observed reduction of the sorption of humic and fulvic acids (HFA) on the addition of sodium sulfite to the samples of natural and potable waters prior to their processing probably relates to the change of pH. The preconcentration of phenols from natural and potable waters at pH 6-8 substantially reduces the sorption of HFA. The method is used to determine phenols in samples of tap water and water from the Yenisei river by the added-found method.

Аннотация: The hypothesis was tested that red spruce and black spruce are two distinct species which are capable of hybridizing, and that intrigressive hybridization or introgression has occurred since Pleistocene glaciations. Evidence was obtained from the literature regarding F1 hybrids, isolating mechanisms, and the possible evolution of the species. Data are presented concerning morphological variation of seedlings in provenance tests, and of trees in natural stands. Mosr samples from the overlapping range showed a proportion of individuals typical of one species with other individuals showing a degree of resemblance to the other species. In these latter individuals, character assotiation was evident. While the data are not conclusive, they are compatible with the theory of introgression

Аннотация: The main subject of this work is the estimation of variances and confidence intervals, based on multistage samples. A bootstrap technique for variance estimation in multistage sampling is developed, which can easily be extended to an arbitrary number of stages. It gives an unbiased estimator in the linear case, both for sampling without replacement and sampling with replacement. An alternative technique was proposed by Rao and Wu 1988 for two stage samples which not only gives a variance estimator but also a bootstrap distribution. This bootstrap distribution can be used to construct confidence intervals.

Аннотация: The paper describes the distribution of acidity in the soil profile, especially in the podzol profile, and gives some data regarding the effect of the storage of the soil samples on acidity, and the differences between the pH-values in water and in KC1. Storage of the samples has generally lowered the acidity, particularly so in strongly podzolized soils. The changes were least in brown earth and in weakly podzolized soil. Research on the distribution of acidity shows that the pH-value first rises (from surface of mineral soil onwards) with increasing depth, reaches a maximum at the lower part of the B-horizon, and thereupon falls, soon to rise to the value which is characteristic of the subsoil in question. In ordinary northern podzol soils, this maximum is found between 25 and 35 cm, and the decrease between 35 and 45 cm. The chemical differentiation of the profile is generally the folowing: the maximum of humus is uppermost, than tha maximum of sesqui-oxides and underneath that of the pH-values. The ph-difference between water and KC1 was least in the B-horizon, and greatest in strongly washed A-horizon and in the subsoil of grass-herb forests.

Аннотация: In this paper the termination of diapause was studied with larvae kept singly in glass vials on artificial diet in an outdoor insectary. The trial started on 31 August 1972 when newly hatched larvae were placed on the diet. By the beginning of October they seemed in diapause. Samples were transferred to continuous light and 20 grad. C. This light regime was chosen because it has less effect on diapause termination, than long or short day treatments. Long days tend to terminate diapause and short days to prolong it.

Аннотация: The procedure is based upon X-ray fluorescence, and has been found very suitable with a largr number of samples. The results of analysis indicated that pine needles and birch leaves contain chloride in no more than negligible amounts. The highest percentages of sulphur encountered in pine needles were less than one half of the amount considered dangerous (0.5 per cent), and practically the same as those derived ealier in the vicinity of soidium sulphite pulp mill in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. Similar mean values were found for the total sulphur in pine needle samples collected from Lahti and from the central area of Rauma town locating about two kilometers to the north and north east from pulp mill

Аннотация: European larch from different geographycal regions of its natural range of distribution varies in seed weight. These differences in seed weight are rather distinct, despite the fact that they have been found - as far as can be judged from the publication. The empty seeds, which usually have about 70 per cent of the weight of filled seeds, can influenece the thousand grain weight differently, depending upon the extent to which they occur in samples. However, it is rather difficult to separate empty and filled seeds of larch, owing to the small difference in their weight. Аннотация: In this investigation, the effect of three distances: 22, 19 and 13 cm between the water level and the seed bed on Jacobsen apparatus (referred to in the following text as "water distance"), was studied on the germination of 24 samples of fresh and old Scots pine seed. The results showed that in most of the samples there was a tendency for germination percentage to be highest at the shortest water distance used (13 cm), although these differences were significant only in three cases. Also the germination rate was the fastest, at least in the first few days of the test, at 13 cm water distance in several samples. For the practical seed testing work, this study has indicated that it is important to keep the distance between the water level and seed bed on Jacobsen apparatus constant, in order to obtain comparable germination results

Аннотация: In this investigation the effect of the germination periods of 14, 21 and 30 days was studied on the percentage and the rate of germination of Pinus silvestris and Picea abies seed. Samples from areas lying between 50 degrees N and 68 degrees N latitudes were used. Seed with well-developed embryo and endosperm and with high viability, as well as that with reduced viability due to age or due to poor embryo and/or endosperm development was tested. The results showed that in former type of seed, a germination period of 14 days may be adequate. However, in the later type of seed, a longer period (21 or 30 days) may be desirable, so that a sample can attain its maximum germination percentage

Аннотация: The samples were analysed for N, P, K and loss on ignition, and the values obtained were expressed both as percentages and per unit area. The conclusion to be drawn from the results is to obtain good precision in analytical values, it is necessary to take a greater number of samples when the results are expressed in weight per unit area than when they are expressed in percentages by weight. As a rule, it is necessary to use samples from at least 10-15 points (Often more) - aggregated to a composite sample - to depress the coefficient of variation below 10 per cent for the values per unit area of the studied elements. The paper also contains tables showing the distributuin of these elements in the profiles examined
