Аннотация: The mathematical works of S.L. Sobolev were strongly motivated by particular problems coming from applications/ In his celebrated book "Applications of Functional Analysis in Mathematical Physics" (1950) and other words, S. Sobolev introduced general methods that turned out to be very influential in the study of mathematical physics in the second half of the XXth century. This volume, dedicated to the century of S.L. Sobolev, presents the latest results on some important problems of mathematical physics describing, in particular, phenomena of superconductivity with random fluctuations, wave propagation, perforated domains and bodies with defects of different types, spectral asymptotics for Dirac energy, Lame system with residual stress, optimal control problems for partial differential equations and inverse problems admiting numerous interpretations. Methods of modern functional analysis are essentially used in the investigation of these problems.

Аннотация: Монография посвящена исследованиям по важной проблеме современной биологии - выяснению физиологических и биохимических механизмов адаптации растений к флуктуациям температуры. Проведены исследования реакции митохондрий растительной клетки на действие неблагоприятной температуры. Установлено, что в ответ на температурные стрессы в растениях происходит синтез стрессовых белков. Среди них - белки, разобщающие окислительное фосфорилирование, и ряд других. Температурные стрессы приводят к серьезным изменениям в энергетической системе, что связано в первую очередь с изменениями редокс-состояния митохондрий. Рассматриваемые в работе вопросы регуляции энергетического обмена тесно связаны с изменениями в экспрессии генома, что указывает на взаимодействие энергетической и информационной систем растительных клеток при флуктуациях температуры. Для генетиков, биохимиков и физиологов растений, а также студентов и аспирантов биологических специальностей университетов, сельскохозяйственных и педагогических вузов.

Аннотация: The work presented considers whole plant aspects of the effects of non-nutrient metals on Picea abies seedlings. All work was carried out using seedlings grown in nutrient solutions under controlled conditions. The investigation concentrated on the effect of the metals, Al, Pb, Hg and CH3Hg. The distribution of metals between apoplast and symplast was determined using 109Cd. The aim of study was to develop a model of the effect of these metals on Picea abies in terms of the whole plant, and to assess the relevance of these metals as a soil-mediated stress in forest ecosystems.

First, the science and management of forest tree nutrition in its many aspects (spanning soil science, tree physiology and silviculture and ecology) has advanced rapidly over the last 15 years. It is no longer possible for any one worker to have expert knowledge in the full range of topics encompassed in tree nutrition. Yet many, if not most, of these topics are highly complementary. It is important that scientists, advanced students and forest managers seeking rewarding avenues of research and management in increasing plantation productivity, be well aware of concepts and recent developments in these related fields. It is essential that they address their studies and management decisions on a comprehensive background knowlwdge of all the processes which influence productivity. The second major reason relates to the need for increased forest productivity and importance of nutrient management of forest plantations in this.

Аннотация: Environmental stress affects genetic structures of beech populations in many different ways. It is concluded that long term exposure to complex field stress results in a viability advantage for ginetically deverse populations and individuals. In juvenile stages, certain alleles may account for superior viabilities, but this phenomenon does seem to hold for succeeding lifr stages. The choice of single "resistant" individuals cannot be expected to increase the adaptability of forest tree populations under heterogeneous environmental stress conditions. In such environments, genetically heterogeneous populations are strongly suggested. Inferences on forest management are briefly outlined

Аннотация: Wood is a biological structure well-adapted to external loading. It carries axial loads in a tree by longitudinal fibres and radial loads by rays; circumferential compressive growth stresses prevent the tree from splitting along the rays. It is shown that axial and lateral strength is highest at places of maximum loading. Also, growth stresses are distributed in a load-controlled way. The vivid style used by the authors avoids complex formulas, preferring many impresive and simple to understand drawings. They show how a tree is internally optimized and how the partial or global breakdown of this interwoven axial and radial optimization can lead to the different failture modes.

Аннотация: An attempt was made to gain some indication as to the role of five different "Stressors" in a granulosis of varigated cutworm. In general, it was found that, with the possible exception of ether, none of the test factors (excessive heat, excessive cold, ultraviolet light, abnormal nutrition) sgnificantly enhanced, promoted, or induced granulosis infection in Peridroma larvae. Considerable mortality in the test insects resulted from the action of the test factors themselves, and from other nonvirus causes, such as bacterial infection
