Аннотация: During the drying process of various samples, such as serum or bacterial suspensions, the water content of the materials was measured by employing the spring balance suspending the container. The druing curve, in which the rate of drying was potted against the water content, showed the difference in drying process between the drying from the frozen state and from the liquid state. Аннотация: Mycorrhiza-forming species mainly of the genera Amanita, Boletus and others and some litter-decomposing species were employed. For ecological characterisation of the experimental material, most of these species were tested for the ability to produce the extra-cellular enzymes, cellulase, pectinase, proteinase and laccase. The result from experimental series having raw humus as the only nitrogen source indicated that the myccorhiza-forming fungi, like most of the litter-decomposers, could utilise to a very limited extent or not at all the nitrogen bound in the humus. The inoculation of cultures of pine seedlings on gamma-sterilised, N15- labelled raw humus with pure culture suspensions of different mycorrhiza-formers and litter-decomposers influenced to varying degrees both the supply of assimilable nitrogen and plant development.

Аннотация: Conifer seedlings were treated with DDT and lindane before being planted in a reforestation area. At intervals samples were taken from the planted seedlings and the surrounding soil and analysed for DDT components and lindane. The loss of the insecticides from the seedlings and incidence of them in the soil were determined. The ecological impact of planting insecticide-treated seedlings in the forest is discussed.

Аннотация: Air-borne infection by H. annosum and its control during first thinning were examined in two Scots pine stands and one Norway spruce stand southern Finland. Water suspensions of Phlebiopsis gigantea (two strains) and 20% urea solution were used. The substances were spread on the surface of the stumps during felling using a stump-spraying device fitted to a chain-saw. A total of 501 pine and 278 spruce stumps were investigated.
