Аннотация: The objectives were to establish baseline conditions of New England forests for assessing attributes of forest health. Field visits were made to 263 sample plots across the six New England states, and measurements were taken on 206 plots determined to be forested. Results are detailed in 46 tables and summarized in text and charts. The representativeness of the sample, findings from tree-crown ratings, damage signs and symptoms, and bioindicator plants are discussed.

Аннотация: The objectives of the 1991 FHM field season in the Northeast were to: (1) expand the permanent plot network to include three Mid-Atlantic States; (2) correct problems encountered in 1990 field season; and (3) collect second-year observations on crown-rating data for the six New England States. All of these objectives were met satisfactorily. While it is too early to make reliable assessments of change, the 1991 data support the 1990 contention that there is no evidence of wide-spread decline (as evidenced by tree crown symptoms) in any tree species in the included states. Current plans are to continue monitoing the established plots and eventually add additional plots in order states so that we can continue to provide timely, accurate assessments of forest health in the Northeast.

Аннотация: The action of environmental factors on forest trees results in modi fications in their physiological behaviour to varying degrees. In extreme cases, these modifications bring about macroscopic changes which may occur at different levels of biological organisation: organelles, cells. tissues, organs, whole organisms. Investigation of these symptoms and their causes becomes difficult due to the interactions between the factors involved. Frequently, factors, sequences, synergies or antagonisms lead to a non-specific symptomatology. This limits scientific interpretation and predictions.

Аннотация: This publication describes common fungal diseases of Russian forests, including diagnostic signs and symptoms, pathogen biology, damage caused by the disease, and methods of control. The fungal diseases are divided into two groups: those that are the most common in Russian forests and those that are found only in Russia. Within each group, diseases are subdivided by plant organ attacked, i.e., fruit, seeds, leaves, needles, roots, stems, and branches.
