Аннотация: The author's ambition in this essay is the rectification of the growing imbalance between biomedical shape data, fully incorporated in the computer age, and the archaic tools of morphometrics bequeathed us by the Greeks. He intends a thoroughgoing redefinition and reconstruction of morphometrics - the measurement of shapes, their variation and change - as a branch of applied modern geometry. He will try to set up geometric formalizations of shape which can serve as frameworks for quantification, for measurement of actual shape phenomena and e.t.c.
