Аннотация: These studies indicates that the two predator groups: small mustelids and avian predators, are not able to generate negative-feedback loops affecting endogenous cycles in root vole polulations. However, these studies do provide some new explanations for the mechanisms behind vole cycles: firsrly, that vole survival depend on body mass during each phase of the population cycle, and secondly, that the highest vole mortality during the downward phase of the population cycle occurs in late winter. These two relationships suggest that the quality of food resources may be the factor resposible for root vole cycles in the studied population. this hypothesis now needs to be empirically varified in future studies.
