Аннотация: The emphasis is on the liquid-gas surface. We concerns with liquid-liquid surface, but say little about the liqid-solid surface, we use the word capillarity. We have adopted a narrative style in which some subjects may be visited several times as they are discussed, in turn, by mechanical, thermodynamic, quasi-thermodynamic, and statistical mechanical arguments, we provide ample cross-references. Our subject has a long history, an active present, and, we believe, an exciting future as it moves ever further into areas of great theoretical and practical interest such as the physics of membranes and colloids
