Аннотация: This monograph gives the ranges over which specific infrared characteristic group frequencies may be found. Modern infrared instruments have made both the far and near infrared regions readily accessible; hence these regions are also covered in the book. There are easily read carts and tables showing the ranges for individual characteristic group frquencies. In order to assist the beginner, three basic correlation charts are provided. Chart 1 may be used to deduce the absence of one or more classes of chemical compound by the absence of an absorption band in a given region. Chart 2 may be used to determine which groups may possibly be responsible for a band at a given position. Chart 3 may be used if the class of chemical is known (and hence the functional groups it contains) in order to determine at a glance the important absorption regions. At the beginning of each chapter, the steric, electronic and solvent - solute interactions which affect the group frequencies are discussed; related Tables then follow each discussion. To accent of the book is on the analytical point of view rather than abstract theory. The coverage of the subject matter is comprehensive and practical. The information which the book provides will be required by almost all workers whether in industry or university - researchers, teachers, and students - who use infrared spectroscopy for qualitative analysis.
