Аннотация: Phenomena of convection are abundant in nature as well as in industry. This volume addresses the subject of convection from the point of view of both, theory and application. While the first three chapters provide a refresher on fluid dynamics and heat transfer theory, the rest of the book describes the modern developments in theory. Thus it brings the reader to the "front" of the modern research. This monograph provides the theoretical foundation on a topic relevant to metallurgy, ecology, meteorology, geo-and astrophysics, aerospace industry, chemistry, crystal physics, and many other fields

West Siberia -- phytoplankton -- Bacillariophyta -- Pennatophyceae

Аннотация: In the studied water bodies of the northeast of the Western Siberia, Bacillariophyta dominates the flora of planktonic organisms by species abundance. Among them, class Pennatophyceae is distinguished by the highest species richness. The first electron microscopic studies of pennate diatom algae allowed obtaining complete data on the species composition of Pennatophyceae at the modern level. Discovered were 213 taxa from 53 genera, including 98 new to the region, 56 new and rare to the flora of Russia, and forms identified only to the genus. The taxonomy of the genera Nitzchia, Stauroneis, Pinnularia, and Navicula s.s. is the richest.

Аннотация: In a brackish, temperate, 24-m-deep Lake Shira, the profiles of salinity, temperature, oxygen and sulfide concentrations were measured on a seasonal basis from 2002 to 2009. The lake was shown to be meromictic with autumnal overturn restricted to mixolimnion. The depth of mixolimnion and position of oxic-anoxic interface varied annually. The spring mixing processes contribute to the formation of mixolimnion in autumn. The exceptionally windy spring of 2007 caused the deepening of mixolimnion in the winter of 2008. The winter position of oxic-anoxic interface was affected by the position of lower boundary of mixolimnion in all winters. The salinity in the winter mixolimnion increased compared with the autumn because of freezing out of salts from the upper water layers meters during ice formation and their dissolution in water below. The profiles of salinity and temperature were simulated by the mathematical 1-D model of temperature and salinity conditions taking into account ice formation. The simulated profiles generally coincided with the measured ones. The coincidence implies that simplified one-dimensional model can be applied to roughly describe salinity and density profiles and mixing behavior of Lake Shira.

Аннотация: A one-dimensional numerical model and a two-dimensional numerical model of the hydrodynamic and thermal structure of Lake Shira during summer have been developed, with several original physical and numerical features. These models are well suited to simulate the formation and dynamics of vertical stratification and provide a basis for an ecological water-quality model of the lake. They allow for the quantification of the vertical mixing processes that govern not only the thermal structure but also the nutrient exchange, and more generally, the exchange of dissolved and particulate matter between different parts of the lake. The outcome of the calculations has been compared with the field data on vertical temperature and salinity distributions in Lake Shira. Lake Shira is meromictic and exhibits very stable annual stratification. The stratification is so stable because of the high salinity of the water. If the water in Lake Shira were fresh and other parameters (depth, volume, and meteorology) were the same, as now, the lake would be mixed in autumn. Using the newly developed models and using common meteorological parameters, we conclude that Lake Shira will remain stratified in autumn as long as the average salinity is higher than 3%.

Convective mixed layer -- Ice formation -- Ice melting -- Simplified model -- Winter profiles

Аннотация: In meromictic lakes such as Lake Shira, horizontal inhomogeneity is small in comparison with vertical gradients. To determine the vertical distribution of temperature, salinity, and density of water in a deep zone of a Lake Shira, or other saline lakes, a one-dimensional (in vertical direction) mathematical model is presented. A special feature of this model is that it takes into account the process of ice formation. The model of ice formation is based on the one-phase Stefan problem with the linear temperature distribution in the solid phase. A convective mixed layer is formed under an ice cover due to salt extraction in the ice formation process. To obtain analytical solutions for the vertical distribution of temperature, salinity, and density of water, we use a scheme of vertical structure in the form of several layers. In spring, the ice melts as top and bottom. These processes are taken into account in the model. The calculated profiles of salinity and temperature of Shira Lake are in good agreement with field measurement data for each season. Additionally, we focussed on the redox zone, which is the zone in which the aerobic layers of a water column meet the anaerobic ones. Hyperactivity of plankton communities is observed in this zone in lakes with hydrogen sulphide monimolimnion, and Lake Shira is among them. The location of the redox zone in the lake, which is estimated from field measurements, coincides with a sharp increase in density (the pycnocline) during autumn and winter. During spring and summer, the redox zone is deeper than the pycnocline. The location of pycnocline calculated with the hydro physical model is in good agreement with field measurement data.

Аннотация: A large number and wide variety of lake ecosystem models have been developed and published during the past four decades. We identify two challenges for making further progress in this field. One such challenge is to avoid developing more models largely following the concept of others ('reinventing the wheel'). The other challenge is to avoid focusing on only one type of model, while ignoring new and diverse approaches that have become available ('having tunnel vision'). In this paper, we aim at improving the awareness of existing models and knowledge of concurrent approaches in lake ecosystem modelling, without covering all possible model tools and avenues. First, we present a broad variety of modelling approaches. To illustrate these approaches, we give brief descriptions of rather arbitrarily selected sets of specific models. We deal with static models (steady state and regression models), complex dynamic models (CAEDYM, CE-QUAL-W2, Delft 3D-ECO, LakeMab, LakeWeb, MyLake, PCLake, PROTECH, SALMO), structurally dynamic models and minimal dynamic models. We also discuss a group of approaches that could all be classified as individual based: super-individual models (Piscator, Charisma), physiologically structured models, stage-structured models and traitbased models. We briefly mention genetic algorithms, neural networks, Kalman filters and fuzzy logic. Thereafter, we zoom in, as an in-depth example, on the multi-decadal development and application of the lake ecosystem model PCLake and related models (PCLake Metamodel, Lake Shira Model, IPH-TRIM3D-PCLake). In the discussion, we argue that while the historical development of each approach and model is understandable given its 'leading principle', there are many opportunities for combining approaches. We take the point of view that a single 'right' approach does not exist and should not be strived for. Instead, multiple modelling approaches, applied concurrently to a given problem, can help develop an integrative view on the functioning of lake ecosystems. We end with a set of specific recommendations that may be of help in the further development of lake ecosystem models.

Аннотация: In the phytoplankton of northeastern West Siberian water bodies, Bacillariophyta were a dominant group of the 7 most abundant algal divisions, with the occurrence of the members of the class Centrophyceae varying from 27 to 100%. Scanning electron microscopy revealed complete species composition of the class Centrophyceae that dominates the phytoplankton of Lake Delingde, the Delingde and Bol'shaya Kheta rivers (Aulacoseira, 3 species; Cyclostephanos, 1; Cyclotella, 5; Discostella, 1; Melosira, 1; Pliocaenicus, 1; Puncticulata, 1; Stephanodiscus, 6). The phytoplankton of the class Centrophyceae in the Taz River now has a new member, Puncticulata radiosa. New species of the genus Cyclotella in West Siberian algal flora were revealed: C. arctica, C. comensis, and C. vorticosa. The findings helped more precisely define the ranges of the rare taxa and add new diagnostic features to the diagnoses of C. comensis and Stephanodiscus invisitatus.

Sustainable water management -- sustainable development indices -- water resources -- Yenisei River basin

Аннотация: A system of sustainable water management is suggested. This includes natural water production; acceptable sanitary-epidemiological water state; conservation and maintenance of biological water diversity; development of socioeconomic functions of water management; and instruments for water policy to conserve sustainable management of water consumption and protect consumers from injurious water effects. The developed system was applied to analyse the situation in the Yenisei River basin (Russia). Analysis in the basin showed that it is currently unsustainable: the share of purified water has not increased; water cost per unit production is high; the quality of water in the Yenisei River is still characterised as 'polluted'; some people in the basin drink water containing injurious substances; and both purification facilities and water supply systems are in an unsatisfactory state. Hence, the financing of hydrological work is currently inadequate.

hydrothermal -- ice -- river -- computer algorithms

Аннотация: The erection of large hydroelectric power stations leads to appreciable changes in hydrothermal and ice river regimes both above and below the hydroscheme. The river regime change affects the adjacent areas ecology. To estimate completely the ecologic effect of designed and already constructed hydroelectric power stations, it is necessary to determine the hydrothermal and ice river regime changes. As a methodical basis for the construction of a set of computer algorithms, a method of splitting by physical processes and the module principle has been used. Among the hydro-ice-thermics problems of rivers and water reservoirs are the following: the determination of the temperature regime of a water reservoir, an investigation of stratified flows in a weakly-running water reservoir; an investigation of a hydrothermal river regime; an investigation of ice cover edge dynamics in the downstream of a river. For every problem, mathematical models of different levels of complication and computer programs have been worked out.

Аннотация: This book discusses mathematical models that are based on the concepts of classical equilibrium thermodynamics. They are intended for the analysis of possible results of diverse natural and production processes. Unlike the traditional models, these allow one to view the achievable set of partial equilibria with regards to constraints on kinetics, energy and mass exchange and to determine states of the studied systems of interest for the researcher. Application of the suggested models in chemical technology, energy and ecology is illustrated in the examples. © 2006 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: This article presents the dominant species and groups and the spatial distribution and structural indices of benthic communities in small mountain streams located on the territory of the Ergaki Nature Park (in the south of Krasnoyarsk krai). A comparative analysis of bioindicators and metrics, a part of which is used by the European Water Framework Directive to determine water quality, was carried out. It was established that the EPT, BMWP, and IBGN indices have the highest sensitivity, which allows one to recommend their use as standard indices for assessing water quality in the small mountain rivers of the given region. By ranking the obtained biotic indices and metrics with respect to background values, the gradations of water quality were determined and the integral index was introduced.

Аннотация: To understand the mechanisms of formation of water quality it is necessary to study both biological and chemical properties of a lake as well as its hydro regime. For many years researchers have focused on the study of chemistry and biology of Lake Shira (situated in Siberia), but a detailed investigation of its hydro regime has become possible only recently with the development of modern measuring instruments. Using the latest generation of measuring devices we have obtained the hydrophysical characteristics of the stratified salt lake in situ (air and water temperature, wind strength and direction, water velocity). Relationships between the measured data have allowed us to analyze the flow in the lake as a whole, thus outlining the problem of determining lake ecological status in the period under observation. © SGEM2014.

Аннотация: Adaptations of living organisms to the environment are formed and manifested at different levels, from molecular to biocoenotic. Nowadays, the metabolic antioxidant system (AOS) is considered the key part of the process of adaptation; its activation is considered a general response of biota to the negative effect of the environment. The usage of AOS components as biomarkers of the stress condition in hydrobionts has good prospects; it is actively applied in the monitoring of aquatic ecosystems. Here, the kinetics of the free radical formation in various zoobenthic species from the Yenisei River (amphipods, oligochaetes, leeches, and chironomids) and in the amphipods from the Us River (a small mountain river, the Yenisei tributary) is analyzed. The parameters of kinetics of radical formation were registered in vitro in the homogenates of hydrobionts tissues under the initiation of the oxidative stress by the hydrogen peroxide using luminol-dependent chemoluminescence. In amphipods, unlike other invertebrates, the antioxidative activity is characterized by two chemiluminescent peaks. In addition, the kinetics of free radical elaboration has interspecific and agerelated variability in amphipods. In Gmelinoides fasciatus Stebb., the peak of the free radical elaboration and their total number significantly exceeded these parameters for Gammarus sp. and Eulimnogammarus viridis Dybowsky in a 60-min period. The increase of the production of free radicals in E. viridis and Gammarus sp. and its decrease in G. fasciatus were age-dependent. A significantly higher production of free radicals has been registered in G. fasciatus and E. viridis inhabiting the zone of elevated anthropogenic load in the Yenisei River. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: Based on a daily examination of phytoplankton in the Yenisei River downstream of the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station (HPS) within a 4-year period, the ratio between living and dead cells is estimated and the size fractions of phytoplankton are described. It is found that, despite the certain negative effects of passing through the turbine blades of the high-head dam, high current speed, and influence of water discharges from the HPS, living algae cells dominate over dead ones in the water column of the studied reach of the Yenisei River during almost the entire year, except for several dates in late autumn and winter. It is shown that microphytoplankton (20–64 ?m in size) and nanophytoplankton (2–20 ?m), which make up 83% of the total algae count, pass through the turbine blades of the HPS and mostly remain undamaged, with the fraction of living cells varying from 21% in the winter period to 96% in the spring–summer period. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: It is known that the movement of the liquid core creates electric currents, inducing a main magnetic field of the planet. The liquid core of the high temperature becomes ionized plasma (plasma), which It is quasi-neutral (not neutral) - by definition. One of the major geodynamo questions: what is the source of strength, causing fluid movement in the core of the planet? Many authors have investigated geodynamo: planetary rotation around its axis, the temperature difference and pressure as well as the Coriolis force. Moffatt (1980), at the end of his book, as expressed the problem mentioned above “… For example, it is not yet known that the ultimate source energy is the basic movements of the Earth’s disk Dynamo”. In this study, the role of the driving forces of the liquid core considered tidal forces created axial rotation of the planet and the influence of external objects (the Sun and planets, satellites). The value of the tidal force on the equator of the planet depends on the radius and the period of the axial rotation of the planet, mass, radius and the orbital period of the satellite around the planet. The paper presents the formula and the results of the calculation of tidal forces and forecast the relative values equatorial magnetic fields of the planets all the planets of the solar system. The interpretation of the results illustrated with drawings. The new version of the dynamo It helps to explain the reasons high intensity magnetic Jupiter's field compared to Saturn’s fields, Uranus and Neptune, and much more Earth field intensity compared with fields of Venus, Mercury and Mars. The calculations of the correlation values the magnetic field at the equator: on the model according to the forecast and observations on the planets. Correlation coefficient is 0.997, that indicates a close relationship observed and estimates fields, and this is indirect evidence of the correctness of the adopted model. © SGEM2017 All Rights Reserved.

Analysis of the velocity profile in lake shira in summer using principal component analysis
/ O. Voldko, L. Kompaniets, L. Gavrilova // International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference Surveying Geology and Mining Ecology Management, SGEM : International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference, 2017. - Vol. 17: 17th International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference, SGEM 2017 (29 June 2017 through 5 July 2017, ) Conference code: 130796, Is. 31. - P831-838, DOI 10.5593/sgem2017/31/S15.105 . -
Аннотация: The development of modern technologies allows us to solve the problem of carrying out long-term measurements of velocity and temperature in lakes. The long-term local measurements of velocity have been conducted in Lake Shira (Khakassia) in the period 2014-2015.The velocity profile along the column of the liquid in Lake Shira occurs due to density summer stratification and wind. The horizontal velocities vary greatly in depth as well as in time. The principal component method has been performed to analyze the horizontal velocities. This method is widely used to evaluate complex space-time structures, since it allowsto describe the data compactly. The obtained data have been decomposed into empirically determined modes with different scales. This makes it possible to extract dominant modes in the data and in some cases to determine the corresponding physical process. The first empirical modes in all measures are analogous to the Ekman spiral of the stationary motion of a homogeneous liquid and the remaining modes can correspond to internal waves. © SGEM2017 All Rights Reserved.
