Аннотация: This paper presents a generalized technology of extraction of explicit knowledge from data. The main ideas are 1) maximal reduction of network complexity (not only removal of neurons or synapses, but removal all the unnecessary elements and signals and reduction of the complexity of elements), 2) using of adjustable and flexible pruning process (the pruning sequence shouldn't be predetermined - the user should have a possibility to prune network on his own way in order to achieve a desired network structure for the purpose of extraction of rules of desired type and form), and 3) extraction of rules not in predetermined but any desired form. Some considerations and notes about network architecture and training process and applicability of currently developed pruning techniques and rule extraction algorithms are discussed. This technology, being developed by us for more than 10 years, allowed us to create dozens of knowledge-based expert systems.

    Singularities of Transition Processes In Dynamical Systems

Аннотация: The paper gives a systematic analysis of singularities of transition processes in dynamical systems. General dynamical systems with dependence on parameter are studied. A system of relaxation times is constructed. Each relaxation time depends on three variables: initial conditions, parameters k of the system and accuracy ε of the relaxation. The singularities of relaxation times as functions of (x0,k) under fixed ε are studied. The classification of different bifurcations (explosions) of limit sets is performed. The relations between the singularities of relaxation times and bifurcations of limit sets are studied. The peculiarities of dynamics which entail singularities of transition processes without bifurcations are described as well. The analogue of the Smale order for general dynamical systems under perturbations is constructed. It is shown that the perturbations simplify the situation: the interrelations between the singularities of relaxation times and other peculiarities of dynamics for general dynamical system under small perturbations are the same as for the Morse-Smale systems.

    Rectification effect of a radiation force

Аннотация: A radiation-pressure force, changing only slightly within the wavelength of light (rectification effect), has been shown to arise in interfering fields. In a monochromatic field a rectified force (RF) has the scale of a spontaneous light-pressure force, and it is mainly a vortex one. In a bichromatic field the RF has the order of magnitude of the induced light-pressure force and does saturate in a strong field. The spatial RF structure can be either potential or rotational. The depth of the potential wells generated by the RF can exceed by several orders of magnitude the energy of the atom-field interaction, and it can reach 10 K and larger. A vortex periodic RF results either in regular rotating motion or in a random walk of atoms along the boundaries of elementary cells of the force field. Possible applications of the RF are discussed.

Аннотация: The Sweet-Parker analysis of the inner electron diffusion region of collisionless magnetic reconnection is presented. The study includes charged particles motion near the X-line and an appropriate approximation of the off-diagonal term for the electron pressure tensor. The obtained scaling shows that the width of the inner electron diffusion region is equal to the electron inertial length, and that electrons are accelerated up to the electron Alfven velocity in X-line direction. The estimated effective plasma conductivity is based on the electron gyrofrequency rather than the binary collision frequency, and gives the extreme (minimal) value of the plasma conductivity similar to Bohm diffusion. The scaling properties are verified by means of Particle-in-Cell simulations. An ad hoc parameter needs to be introduced to the scaling relations in order to better match the theory and simulations.

Аннотация: The energy of pair interactions between metal nanoparticles of different sizes is shown to be able to increase upon coagulation due to the additional electrostatic effect resulting from mutual heteropolar charging of the particles. The tunnel electron transfer occurring upon the collisions between particles of different sizes may be the reason for the charging. The transfer is caused by the dependence of the electron work function on the particle size. The electron transfer through the interparticle gap equalizes the Fermi levels in particles of different sizes and is associated with this dependence. Using the example of bimodal silver nanocolloids, it is shown that mutual heteropolar charging of particles with different sizes may accelerate the coagulation of polydisperse colloidal systems by an order of magnitude or more as compared with monodisperse systems, in which this effect is absent.

    The spectrum of resonant laser radiation to decelerate ions in an expanding ultracold plasma

Аннотация: We analyze the resonance absorption spectrum of ions in an expanding ultracold spherical plasma. It is shown that the spectrum width is controlled by the highest expansion velocity at the sphere boundary. As the expansion velocity grows, the initial optical thickness of the medium decreases and the medium becomes transparent. We suggest broadband laser radiation in the red absorption spectrum of ions be used to decelerate ions in an expanding plasma in order to achieve crystallization. В© 2013 Astro Ltd.

Аннотация: Computational aerodynamics is a key technology in aircraft design which is ahead of physical experiment and complements it. Of course all three components of computational modeling are actively developed: mathematical models of real aerodynamic processes, numerical algorithms, and high-performance computing. The most impressive progress has been made in the field of computing, though with a considerable complication of computer architecture. Numerical algorithms are developed more conservative. More precisely, they are offered and theoretically justified for more simple mathematical problems. Nevertheless, computational mathematics now has amassed a whole palette of numerical algorithms that can provide acceptable accuracy and interface between modern mathematical models in aerodynamics and high-performance computers. A significant step in this direction was the European Project ADIGMA whose positive experience will be used in International Project TRISTAM for further movement in the field of computational technologies for aerodynamics. This paper gives a general overview of objectives and approaches intended to use and a description of the recommended four-stage computer technology. В© 2012 American Institute of Physics.

Аннотация: We consider the Galerkin piecewise linear finite element method for an ordinary convection-diffusion boundary value problem with a small parameter in front of the highest derivative. For the generation of a discrete linear algebraic system we use the special quadrature formulae that take into account the boundary layer character of the solution. It is proved that the resulting discrete problem is of epsilon(2) + h(2)-order of accuracy in the uniform discrete norm for small h and epsilon. The numerical example shows the advantage of the considered discrete scheme over two commonly used difference schemes.

Аннотация: This paper studies an invariant solution of the problem of joint motion of two heat-conducting viscous immiscible fluids which have a common interface in a cylindrical tube under an unsteady pressure gradient. The problem reduces to a coupled initial-boundary-value problem for parabolic equations. A priori estimates of velocity and temperature perturbations are obtained. The steady state of the system is determined, and it is proved that if, in one of the fluids, the pressure gradient rapidly approaches zero, the perturbations of all quantities tend to zero. It is shown that if the pressure gradient has a nonzero limit, the solution reaches a steady state. In this case, the velocity field in the limit is the same as in conjugate Poiseuille flow, and the temperature is represented as a polynomial of the fourth order on the radial coordinate.

Аннотация: Results of two-dimensional nonlinear numerical simulations of the magnetohydrodynamic Kelvin-Helmholtz instability are presented. A boundary layer of a certain width is assumed, which separates the plasma in the upper layer from the plasma in the lower layer. A special focus is given on the influence of a density increase toward the lower layer. The evolution of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability can be divided into three different phases, namely, a linear growth phase at the beginning, followed by a nonlinear phase with regular structures of the vortices, and finally, a turbulent phase with nonregular structures. The spatial scales of the vortices are about five times the initial width of the boundary layer. The considered configuration is similar to the situation around unmagnetized planets, where the solar wind (upper plasma layer) streams past the ionosphere (lower plasma layer), and thus the plasma density increases toward the planet. The evolving vortices might detach around the terminator of the planet and eventually so-called plasma clouds might be formed, through which ionospheric material can be lost. For the special case of a Venus-like planet, loss rates are estimated, which are of the order of estimated loss rates from observations at Venus. (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics. Аннотация: A ring of linear differential operators with smooth coefficients generated by two differentiations is considered. Concepts of operators closed with respect to commutation, a resultant of two operators, and a two-dimensional analogue of Wronskian are introduced. Sufficient conditions that two differential operators are generators of a left ideal annihilating a finite-dimensional space of functions are found. Differential operators annihilating given functions are constructed. The operators obtained transform solutions of one secondorder differential equation into solutions of another equation of the same order.

Аннотация: Background: Protein translation is a multistep process which can be represented as a cascade of biochemical reactions (initiation, ribosome assembly, elongation, etc.), the rate of which can be regulated by small non-coding microRNAs through multiple mechanisms. It remains unclear what mechanisms of microRNA action are the most dominant: moreover, many experimental reports deliver controversial messages on what is the concrete mechanism actually observed in the experiment. Nissan and Parker have recently demonstrated that it might be impossible to distinguish alternative biological hypotheses using the steady state data on the rate of protein synthesis. For their analysis they used two simple kinetic models of protein translation. Results: In contrary to the study by Nissan and Parker, we show that dynamical data allow discriminating some of the mechanisms of microRNA action. We demonstrate this using the same models as developed by Nissan and Parker for the sake of comparison but the methods developed (asymptotology of biochemical networks) can be used for other models. We formulate a hypothesis that the effect of microRNA action is measurable and observable only if it affects the dominant system (generalization of the limiting step notion for complex networks) of the protein translation machinery. The dominant system can vary in different experimental conditions that can partially explain the existing controversy of some of the experimental data. Conclusions: Our analysis of the transient protein translation dynamics shows that it gives enough information to verify or reject a hypothesis about a particular molecular mechanism of microRNA action on protein translation. For multiscale systems only that action of microRNA is distinguishable which affects the parameters of dominant system (critical parameters), or changes the dominant system itself. Dominant systems generalize and further develop the old and very popular idea of limiting step. Algorithms for identifying dominant systems in multiscale kinetic models are straightforward but not trivial and depend only on the ordering of the model parameters but not on their concrete values. Asymptotic approach to kinetic models allows putting in order diverse experimental observations in complex situations when many alternative hypotheses co-exist.

    Classification of Symbol Sequences over Their Frequency Dictionaries: Towards the Connection between Structure and Natural Taxonomy

Аннотация: The classifications of bacterial 16S RNA sequences developed over the real and transformed frequency dictionaries have been studied. Two sequences are considered to be close, when their frequency dictionaries are close in Euclidean metrics. A procedure to transform a dictionary is proposed that makes clear some features of the information pattern of a symbol sequence. A comparative study of classifications developed over real frequency dictionaries vs. the transformed ones has been carried out. A correlation between information patterns of nucleotide sequences and taxonomy of the bearer of the sequence was found. The sites with high information value are found to be the main factors of the difference between the classes in a classification. The classification of nucleotide sequences developed over real frequency dictionaries of thickness 3 reveals the best correlation to a gender of bacteria. A set of sequences of the same gender is included entirely into one class, as a rule, and exclusions occur rarely. A hierarchical classification yields one or two taxonomy groups on each level of classification. An unexpectedly often, or unexpectedly rare occurrence of some sites within a sequence makes a basic difference between the structure patterns of the classes yielded; a number of those sites is not to large. Further investigations are necessary in order to campare the sites revealed with those determined due to other methodology.
