West Siberia -- phytoplankton -- Bacillariophyta -- Pennatophyceae

Аннотация: In the studied water bodies of the northeast of the Western Siberia, Bacillariophyta dominates the flora of planktonic organisms by species abundance. Among them, class Pennatophyceae is distinguished by the highest species richness. The first electron microscopic studies of pennate diatom algae allowed obtaining complete data on the species composition of Pennatophyceae at the modern level. Discovered were 213 taxa from 53 genera, including 98 new to the region, 56 new and rare to the flora of Russia, and forms identified only to the genus. The taxonomy of the genera Nitzchia, Stauroneis, Pinnularia, and Navicula s.s. is the richest.

West Siberia -- phytoplankton -- Bacillariophyta -- Centrophyceae

Аннотация: In the phytoplankton of northeastern West Siberian water bodies, Bacillariophyta were a dominant group of the 7 most abundant algal divisions, with the occurrence of the members of the class Centrophyceae varying from 27 to 100%. Scanning electron microscopy revealed complete species composition of the class Centrophyceae that dominates the phytoplankton of Lake Delingde, the Delingde and Bol'shaya Kheta rivers (Aulacoseira, 3 species; Cyclostephanos, 1; Cyclotella, 5; Discostella, 1; Melosira, 1; Pliocaenicus, 1; Puncticulata, 1; Stephanodiscus, 6). The phytoplankton of the class Centrophyceae in the Taz River now has a new member, Puncticulata radiosa. New species of the genus Cyclotella in West Siberian algal flora were revealed: C. arctica, C. comensis, and C. vorticosa. The findings helped more precisely define the ranges of the rare taxa and add new diagnostic features to the diagnoses of C. comensis and Stephanodiscus invisitatus.

remote sensing -- industrial wastes -- vegetation index -- vegetation dynamics

Аннотация: The paper shows the efficiency of an application of the vegetation index image time series to determine long-term vegetation dynamics. The influence of large industrial centers of Siberia on the near-by vegetation is demonstrated. The analysis of the data shows that the influence of industrial waste is stronger in the Siberian North. These regions are characterized by critical conditions for vegetation existence. In the south of the Krasnoyarsk region, human impact is also important, but the possibility of vegetation self-rehabilitation is higher. The present-day economic situation in Russia is unique, with a temporary abrupt fall of industrial production and its following increase. Thus, we managed to analyze the degree of human impact on the environment within a relatively short-time interval. (C) 2007 Published by Elsevier Ltd on behalf of COSPAR.

Аннотация: To understand the mechanisms of formation of water quality it is necessary to study both biological and chemical properties of a lake as well as its hydro regime. For many years researchers have focused on the study of chemistry and biology of Lake Shira (situated in Siberia), but a detailed investigation of its hydro regime has become possible only recently with the development of modern measuring instruments. Using the latest generation of measuring devices we have obtained the hydrophysical characteristics of the stratified salt lake in situ (air and water temperature, wind strength and direction, water velocity). Relationships between the measured data have allowed us to analyze the flow in the lake as a whole, thus outlining the problem of determining lake ecological status in the period under observation. © SGEM2014.

Ultimate pit limit substantiation for the purpose of forestry reclamation of lands at ballast quarries in Siberia
/ I. V. Zenkov, I. M. Baradulin // Gorn. Zh. - 2016. - Vol. 2016, Is. 3. - С. 85-88, DOI 10.17580/gzh.2016.03.18 . - ISSN 0017-2278
Аннотация: Slow-rate development of mineral resources in Siberia is connected with remoteness of mineral fields and deficiency in hard-surface roads. The approval of the government transport system program in Siberia requires boosting road metal production and quarrying expansion. Mined-out voids of depleted quarries disturb lands and remain bare for a long time. The situation in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is of particular concern. It is urgently required to find planting methods for mined-out ballast quarries. The obstacle is the traditional geometry of mined-out open pits, with steep walls and vast bottom flooded with atmospheric precipitations. Ecological monitoring of mined-out surface mines in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and most effective vegetation of mined-out voids shows that, given the local climate (long cold winter and short hot summer), population of trees is higher on the southern and eastern pit walls, where moisture content is higher and trees are less dehumidified under the sun in simmer; of no less significance is flatness of slopes and weak inclination (3-5°) of roads towards pit walls, as well as presence of fertile soil layer in the walls. On special purpose plots of land 0.2 ha in area, trees have been counted per each element of a quarry, which makes the basis to develop recommendations on environmentally optimal shape of quarries: maximum area of the southern and eastern pitwalls to be slightly sloping (15-24°), minimum technologically reasoned area of bottom is shifted northwestward. The study is in accordance with the Fundamental Research Program of the National Academies of Sciences for 2013-2020 and the research plan of the Nauka Design and Engineering Center, ICT SB RAS for 2013-2017, under the project "Information Support Models and Technologies for Evaluation, Forecasting and Management of Regional Eco-Systems, Territorial Infrastructure and Natural and Industrial Safety".

Change in the circulation regime in the stratified saline Lake Shira (Siberia, Republic of Khakassia)
/ V. M. Belolipetskii [et al.] // Dokl. Earth Sci. - 2017. - Vol. 474, Is. 2. - P649-652, DOI 10.1134/S1028334X17060010 . - ISSN 1028-334X
Аннотация: The in-situ data on the vertical structure and stability of the vertical stratification of saline Lake Shira over the past decade (2007–2015) are analyzed. Simplified mathematical models have shown that strong wind in the autumn of 2014 together with rather thick ice in the winter of 2015 caused a change in the circulation regime of this water reservoir from meromictic (incomplete mixing) to holomictic (compete mixing). Based on the results obtained, a circulation regime for deep saline lakes located in the continental climate zone, in particular, in the arid zones of Southern Siberia (Khakassia, Transbaikal, and Altai) can be predicted under various climate scenarios of the future. © 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Food chain -- Meromixis -- Mixing -- Mixolimnion -- Purple sulfur bacteria -- Stability -- Stratification -- Chromatiaceae -- Phytomastigophorea

Аннотация: Saline Lake Shira (Southern Siberia, Russia) was meromictic through the observation period 2002–2015. During the under-ice periods of 2015 and 2016, complete mixing of the water column was recorded for the first time, and hydrogen sulphide temporarily disappeared from the water column of the lake; i.e. in those years the lake turned to holomixis. In the summer of 2015, a sharp increase in chlorophyll a, organic carbon, zooplankton, and phytoflagellates was observed in the lake, which was probably due to the release of nutrients from the monimolimnion. Purple sulfur bacteria completely disappeared from the lake after the first mixing in 2015, and did not reappear despite the restoration of meromixis in 2017. Thus, it was demonstrated that purple sulfur bacteria are sensitive to the weakening of the stratification of Lake Shira. Based on the data of the seasonal monitoring of temperature and salinity profiles over the period 2002–2017, it was presumed that the main cause of deep mixing in 2015 was the weakening of the salinity gradient due to strong wind impact and early ice retreat in the spring of 2014. In addition, it was shown that in previous years a significant contribution to the maintenance of meromixis was made by an additional influx of fresh water, which caused a rise in the lake level in the period 2002–2007. Thus, we identified a relationship between the stratification regime of the lake and the change in its level, which provides valuable information both for the forecast of water quality and for reconstruction of the Holocene climate humidity in this region of Southern Siberia from the sediment cores of Lake Shira. © 2017 Elsevier GmbH

Перевод заглавия: Temporal dynamics of structural and functional characteristics of the Yenisei river phytoplankton downstream of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station
Patr., в летний - Aulacoseira islandica (O. Mull.) Sim. и Cyclotella radiosa (Grun.)
The Yenisei River is the biggest waterway in Siberia. In the second half of the 20th century, the Yenisei River was overlapped by dams, and it deeply damaged the natural hydrological, hydrochemical and hydrobiological regimes of the river. As a result of constructing the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, a significant river component - phytoplankton, which occupies the central place in the formation of the aquatic ecosystem - has changed downstream of the river. In the river, phytoplankton is formed from phytoperiphyton and allochthonous algae, including phytoplankton species of upstream reservoirs. Therefore, knowledge of transformation laws of phytoplankton species composition, which occurs during the regulation of the river flow and formation of reservoirs, may contribute to the development of ideas about changing the aquatic communities. The aim of this research was to explore the formation of phytoplankton under the conditions of water discharge in the Krasnoyarsk HPS and to study chlorophyll a concentration. We collected phytoplankton samples at a distance of 34 km below the Krasnoyarsk HPS (55°59'1.8"N, 92°47'13.4"E) in 2008-2014 and analyzed them according standard hydrobiological methods (See Table). In 2012-2014, we measured fluorescent water characteristics along with the study of algae. We took the nomenclature for algae considering taxonomic transformations according to the system adopted by the International algae database (http://www.algaebase.org). A quantitative processing of phytoplankton samples was conducted daily, species composition and biomass of algae was determined weekly. In size, algae cells were differentiated according to Rainey. The degree of complexity of phytoplankton communities was determined calculating the Shannon species diversity index (by biomass). The dominant algae included species making the main contribution into the total phytoplankton biomass. In 20122014, along with the study of algae, we determined chlorophyll а concentration by fluorimetric method, weekly (See Fig. 3). We collected and processed a total of 2453 qualitative and quantitative phytoplankton samples for the period of study; 89 samples to determine chlorophyll а content. Altogether, we found 99 species, kinds and forms of algae from 6 groups in the river phytoplankton. In the Yenisei River, diatoms, which predominate in plankton in all seasons, are characterized by the maximum number of species. There is a certain sequence in the appearance of dominant algae. From late April to late May, Diatoma vulgare Bory and Hannaea arcus (Ehrb.) Patr. were recorded in quantities, in June -Aulacoseira islandica (O. Mull.) Sim., in July - Cyclotella radiosa (Grun.) Lemm., in August - Fragilaria crotonensis Kitt. (See Fig. 1). Upstream of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir A. islandica had a dominant position in nephotic cold layer in June, in July and August - C. radiosa; F. crotonensis was a subdominant. It is known that deep water discharge through the dam (18-40 м) is specific for the Krasnoyarsk reservoir. This causes the flow of algae over the dam. In general, the dynamics of the total number and the total biomass of phytoplankton had the form of unimodal curve within the year (with a peak in June) (See Fig. 2). Nanophytoplankton (2-20 mkm) and microphytoplankton (20-64 mkm) made the biggest contribution to the total biomass of phytoplankton. We recorded peaks of number and biomass of phytoplankton in June in all years in question. We found that the percentage of chlorophyll content per phytoplankton biomass unit had seasonal variations and increased in winter (See Fig. 5). It is known, that the concentration of chlorophyll a depends on dimensional structure of phytoplankton. In spring and summer, the domination of algae cells with bigger volumes in phytoplankton caused a decrease in chlorophyll а concentration.

Аннотация: This paper presents an approach to evaluating the natural and technogenic safety of the one of the largest regions in Siberia through the comprehensive analysis of territorial indicators in order to explore geographical variations and patterns in occurrence of emergencies by applying the data mining techniques - principal component analysis and cluster analysis - to data of the Territory Safety Passports. For data modeling, two principal components are selected and interpreted taking account of the contribution of the data attributes to the principal components. Data distribution on the principal components is analyzed at different levels of the territory detail: municipal areas and settlements. Two- and three- cluster structures are constructed in multidimensional data space; the main clusters features are investigated. The results of this analysis have allowed to identify the high-risk territories and rank them according to danger degree of occurrence of the natural and technogenic emergencies. This evaluation gives the basis for decision making and makes it possible for authorities to allocate the forces and means for territory protection more efficiently and develop a system of measures to prevent and mitigate the consequences of emergencies in the large region. The suggested in this work approach in terms of its stages, techniques and reasoning procedures can be considered as a model of comprehensive multidimensional analysis of the control objects in various areas. © 2017 The Author(s).

The increase of response efficiency of the rescue and emergency services to emergency situations and incidents with use of the modern information and communication technologies is especially relevant in sparsely populated and extensive territories of Siberia. We offer the technology of mobile two-sided data exchange for complex monitoring of dangerous events: from one side - the “public monitoring” of dangers, threats and violations ensuring online information to management centre, and from another side - mailing to “mobile subscribers” of the spot news, forecasts of a situation, reliable information about emergency situations and the course of their elimination. In this paper, the functional features of hardware and software in field of life safety for the purpose of their selection and integration in the system of complex monitoring are investigated. The questions of creation of the hybrid applications, which provides the advantages of the native and web applications integration are considered. The main of them are cross-platform and direct access possibility to the mobile devices equipment. The information services of complex monitoring of dangerous events were applied in Emercom crisis management centre of the Krasnoyarsk region.

Аннотация: The empirical orthogonal functions method is widely used for the study of the hydrophysical characteristics in meteorology and oceanography, for example for the analysis of ocean surface currents in the North Carolina and the distribution of horizontal velocities in the Shira Lake. This method is also applied to study the distribution temperatures with depth in the Pacific Ocean and to analyze sea surface temperature in the Western North Atlantic. The empirical orthogonal functions method gives us an optimal modal decomposition of the data and allows us to identify particular modes with relevant physical processors. The empirical orthogonal functions analysis used in this study was performed to measure temperature and vertical velocity in Lake Shira (Southern Siberia, Russia) in the summer of 2014 and 2015. The measurements of currents were recorded using Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers 600 kHz and 1200 kHz at two points. The measurements of temperature were recorded by termistor sensors distributing with depth at ten locations. The first and second empirical orthogonal modes for temperature account for 70-90 % of the total energy. They were used to identify the periods of summer heating and the location of the thermocline. The first mode for surface temperature accounts for about 96 % of the total energy and corresponds to surface temperature gradients. The first mode for vertical velocities accounts for about 10 % of the total energy and the analysis of the corresponding modal coefficient makes it possible to determine the periods when water moves up or down vertically. © SGEM2018 All Rights Reserved.

Аннотация: The paper deals with a new method of testing hypotheses for the distribution of multidimensional remote sensing spectral data. The proposed technique is based on the use of nonparametric algorithms for pattern recognition. Testing the hypothesis of the identity of two laws of distributions of multidimensional random variables is replaced by testing a hypothesis stating that the pattern recognition error equals 0.5. The application of this technique allows doing without the decomposition of the random variable domain into multidimensional intervals, which is typical for the Pearson criterion. Its effectiveness is confirmed by the results of testing the hypotheses of the distribution of spectral data of remote sensing in forestry. The analysis of the distribution laws for the following types of forestry is carried out: dark coniferous forest, damaged and dry forest stands. The initial information was obtained from the southern Siberia remote sensing data using six spectral channels of Landsat. The results of the research form a basis for a set of significant spectral features when dealing with forest condition monitoring.

The use of satellite information (MODIS/Aqua) for phenological and classification analysis of plant communities
/ Y. Ivanova [et al.] // Forests. - 2019. - Vol. 10, Is. 7, DOI 10.3390/f10070561 . - ISSN 1999-4907
Аннотация: Vegetation indices derived from remote sensing measurements are commonly used to describe and monitor vegetation. However, the same plant community can have a different NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) depending on weather conditions, and this complicates classification of plant communities. The present study develops methods of classifying the types of plant communities based on long-term NDVI data (MODIS/Aqua). The number of variables is reduced by introducing two integrated parameters of the NDVI seasonal series, facilitating classification of the meadow, steppe, and forest plant communities in Siberia using linear discriminant analysis. The quality of classification conducted by using the markers characterizing NDVI dynamics during 2003-2017 varies between 94% (forest and steppe) and 68% (meadow and forest). In addition to determining phenological markers, canonical correlations have been calculated between the time series of the proposed markers and the time series of monthly average air temperatures. Based on this, each pixel with a definite plant composition can be characterized by only four values of canonical correlation coefficients over the entire period analyzed. By using canonical correlations between NDVI and weather parameters and employing linear discriminant analysis, one can obtain a highly accurate classification of the study plant communities. © 2019 by the authors.
