Аннотация: 1. (1) The increase in the intensity of the luminescence of bacteria observed on addition of glucose follows a curve with a well-marked maximum after which attenuation sets in. 2. (2) For the relations studied by us between the amount of glucose and the amount of bacterial suspension (1 ml 0В·1 m solution of glucose per ml suspension) the time of attaining the maximum intensity of luminescence and the ratio of the maximum intensity of emission to its level before addition of glucose do not depend on the concentration of bacteria in the suspension. 3. (3) The highest uptake of glucose by bacteria occurs in the period from addition of glucose to the moment of maximum rise in luminescence. Change in the intensity of luminescence after addition of glucose follows a curve similar to that of glucose uptake. 4. (4) We have determined the radiant flux and all the radiant energy released by bacteria in the period from addition of glucose to the moment of attaining the maximum intensity. One bacterial cell on average emits 100 quanta/sec. 5. (5) Bioluminescence accounts for 10-6 parts of the entire energy released on oxidation of glucose. В© 1966.

Аннотация: New results obtained in the detection of rhythms in the low frequency range in the light signal of a small number of photo bacteria are reported. The luminescence of a small number of bacteria was recorded with an apparatus the sensitivity of which was 12 quanta/pulse. To check the possible rhythms in the luminescence of the bacteria, correlation analysis was made of the interpulse intervals of the detection of the signal with a computer. This revealed a definite rhythm in the bacterial luminescence the fundamental frequency of which lies in the region 8 c/s. Profound modulation of a bioluminescent signal at this and multiple frequencies was demonstrated. The harmonic components found in the spectrum of the signal refute the existing view of the continuous character of bacterial luminescence.

Аннотация: The method of atom-atom potentials has been used to study the glutamyl dipeptide in ionized (glu-) and non-ionized (glu) states. A calculation has been made with a computer of the conformational maps and the statistical sums of glu and glu-. It was found that on transition of glu > glu- fall in the energy exceeds the free energy of initiation of the helix with an increased probability of the helical state of the molecule of glu-. From this it is concluded that glu- may in certain conditions be the embryo of the helix on self-organization of protein. В© 1975.

Аннотация: Models of the evolution of Eigen's hypercycles and microbial flow populations are compared. It is shown that these model descriptions of microevolution completely agree in the case of maintenance of constant organization. In the case of constant flows in the Eigen model it is necessary to make additional allowance for the dynamics of the concentrations of the energy monomers. The results of the experiments on the micro-evolution of microbes in these and other conditions are presented. В© 1982.

Аннотация: Taking into account the structural features of particles of the emulsions of organoperfluorocompounds (OPFC) using the equations obtained earlier by one of the authors in solving the general problem of the interaction of light with bi- and trilayer optically heterogeneous spheres the authors calculate the refractive index of the particles of a dispersed OPFC-based blood substitute. The possibility of averaging the refractive index of bilayer particles of an OPFC emulsion by volume is shown. Independent optical methods have been used to determine experimentally the value of the refractive index of OPFC particles and evaluate the thickness of their coat consisting of a surface-active substance. Аннотация: In luciferase isolated from luminescing bacteria Vibrio harveyi the authors have studied the dynamics of the luminescence with aliphatic aldehydes C10, C12 and C14 taken in pairs in the reaction with photoreduced flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and in the conjugated system NAD В· H: :FMN-oxidoreductase-luciferase. The kinetic characteristics of endogenous aldehyde have been determined. It is shown that the process of switching of luciferase from one aldehyde substrate to another is dependent on chain length and the order of introducing the aldehydes into the reaction mixture. Analysis of the "matrix of successive perturbations" gave a numerical matrix of the probabilities of oxidation of the aldehydes in the luminescent reaction. An order of preference of the aldehydes on their binding to luciferase is constructed. В© 1989.

Аннотация: The notion of ecological biophysics as a scientific discipline investigating physical processes and phenomena caused by functioning of the living super-organism systems is formulated. The three main constituents of the ecological biophysics are defined: elaboration of the monitoring methods of the basis of sensing of the biophysical fields (of bioluminescence and fluorescence), mathematical and physical modeling and investigation of the part of living organisms in the hydrophysical processes of the ecosystem scale. Examples of realization of the ecological biophysical approach in the process of investigations of the World Ocean, Lake Baikal, the reservoirs of Dnieper and Yenisei revers are given.

Аннотация: A concept is formulated on ecological and biophysics as a scientific discipline which studies physical processes and phenomena resulting from the functioning of live supra-organism systems. Three main directions of ecological biophysics are defined: creation of methods of monitoring ecosystems on the basis of probing biophysical fields (fields of bioluminescence and fluorescence); mathematical and physical modelling; and study of the role of live organisms in hydrophysical processes on the ecosystem scale. Examples are given of the realization of the ecologo-biophysical approach in research into the ecosystems of the world ocean, Lake Baikal and the Dnieper and Yenisei reservoirs. В© 1994.

Аннотация: An essentially new method is proposed for studying the statistical properties of gene sequences (g.s.) based on construction of a frequency-correlation dictionary (f.c.d.) for the g.s. being investigated (the f.c.d. is the set of all subsequences (words) with a length from 1 to N together with the frequencies of their encounter in the g.s. studied). It is shown that a measure of the redundancy of the g.s. is the characteristic length of the word d* starting from which all the words in the g.s. are unique, i.e. have the frequency 1. В© 1994.

Аннотация: A method is described for determining the localization of the light sources in the thin surface layers of biological and physical objects. It is shown that emission of light by luminous bacteria occurs from the thin near-surface layer ~70 nm thick. This points to the periplasmatic or membrane localization of the luminescent system in luminous bacteria. В© 1993.
