Аннотация: We used a Lake Shira numerical model to estimate the response of the ecosystem of a saline meromictic lake to variations in weather parameters during the growing season. The sensitivity analysis of the model suggests that compared to other external (nutrient inflows) and internal (spring biomasses of food-web components) factors, weather parameters are among the most influential for both mixolimnetic (phyto- and zooplankton) and monimolimnetic (purple sulfur bacteria, sulfur reducing bacteria and hydrogen sulfide) food-web components. Calculations with different weather scenarios shows how changes in the water temperature and mixing depth affect mixolimnetic and monimolimnetic food-web components and the depth of the oxic-anoxic interface in a meromictic lake. When weather forcing stimulates an increase in the biomass of food-web components in the mixolimnion, it produces cascading effects that lead to three results: 1) a higher content of detritus in the water column; 2) a higher content of hydrogen sulfide in the monimolimnion; 3) raising of the oxic-anoxic interface closer to the water-air surface. This cascading effect is complicated by the negative correlation between two light dependent primary producers located at different depths—phytoplankton in the mixolimnion and purple sulfur bacteria at the oxic-anoxic interface. Thus, weather conditions that stimulate higher phytoplankton biomass are associated with a higher detritus content and lower biomass of purple sulfur bacteria, a higher content of hydrogen sulfide and a shallower oxic-anoxic interface. The same weather conditions (higher wind, lower cloud cover, and lower air temperature) promote a scenario of less stable thermal stratification. Thus, our calculations suggest that weather parameters during the summer season strongly control the mixing depth, water temperature and the mixolimnetic food web. An effect of biogeochemical and physical interactions on the depth of the oxicanoxic interface is also detectable. Аннотация: AVHRR MCSST data for the periods 1982-2000 (mean weekly data) were used to calculate mean gradient fields in the ocean for different periods of time. Three-month averaged sea surface temperature gradients (SSTG) and their mean seasonal variations have been studied for 25 points in the large-scale oceanic fronts zones. Major oceanic fronts in the Atlantic and Pacific have been identified and compared in literature. In the North Atlantic and Pacific, the areas under study were the North Polar Front and Subpolar Fronts. In the South Atlantic and Pacific we studied the region of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) and the fronts formed by this current, known as the South Polar Front, and the Subantarctic Front. SSTG were also calculated for El Nino (Southeast Pacific) and Benguela Current (Southeast Atlantic). In warm periods seasonal SSTG in the North Atlantic markedly increased and exhibit some interannual cycles. The correlation between the North Atlantic Oscillation index and seasonal SSTG for a single point in the Gulf Stream zone can be the key point for evaluation of heat transfer by the currents to the coast of East Europe. In the Southern Atlantic, the SSTG values are low during the cold period (summer in the southern hemisphere) in the ACC zone and increase in the warm season (winter in the southern hemisphere). It also exhibits interannual cycles. In the Northwest Pacific for some points in the Subpolar Front the SSTG values are high in the cold period (winter). Here at seven points in the spring of 1993 and 2000 the calculations disclosed significant increase of the gradient. In these years, the anomalous SSTG in Subpolar Front and South Polar Front were found to vary synchronously in both hemispheres, with maximum intensity in spring (North Pacific) and in summer (South Pacific). Mean annual SSTG in the El Nino zone and south oscillation index have been found to exhibit some correlation. Major jet currents periodically form high-gradient temperature fields and from the temperature satellite data we can derive information about variation in the large-scale fronts in the Global Ocean. ANTHROPOGENIC CONTAMINATION
Аннотация: The harmful potential of bulk bottom sediments of the Yenisei River has been assessed by the Allium test. Sediment samples have been taken in ten sites on a plot of about 100 km in length in the middle reaches of the Yenisei River affected by urban activity of the city of Krasnoyarsk and industrial plants. The samples of sediments differ considerably in the content of potentially toxic substances (heavy metals, artificial radionuclides, and organic pollutants) and nutrients and in physical properties. We use the mean length of onion root as an indicator of general toxicity, the mitotic index as an indicator of cytotoxicity, and the percentage of anatelophase cells in the apical root meristem with abnormal chromosomes as an indicator of genotoxicity. Both the stimulation and inhibition of indicator endpoints are revealed in sediment samples of the Yenisei River relative to the control (artificial sediments). An increased genotoxicity is recorded in the sample of sediments contaminated by a mixture of organic and chemical toxicants. A significant positive correlation between the percentage of abnormal cells and the content of copper and petrochemicals in the samples is revealed. No extremely strong reactions of onion endpoints to the quality of sediment samples are revealed, which is probably related to relatively low contamination of the sediments studied. This is in agreement with the data of chemical analyses. Based on the testing results, we can conclude that the endpoints of the Allium test are sensitive enough to the quality of bottom sediments of the Yenisei River and can be used for their biotesting.

Аннотация: The variability of the state of forest vegetation was studied basing on the analysis of NDVI time series (2003–2016) of coniferous and deciduous stands and climate in Krasnoyarsk Territory (Stolby Nature Reserve). The initial data were 8-day Modis satellite information (MOD09Q1 product) and meteorological information from terrestrial weather stations. It was revealed that the trends of the averaged NDVI of forest vegetation for the period May – September and the maximum NDVI were negative. An analysis of the relationship between the dynamics of NDVI forest vegetation and the hydrothermal factor on the territory of the reserve in the 14-year cycle revealed an insignificant correlation between these variables. The negative NDVI trends of coniferous and deciduous stands indicate degradation processes. Deterioration of the state of forest vegetation in the study area detected by satellite data is explained by a combination of factors: climate change, anthropogenic impact of Krasnoyarsk and presence of old-aged forest. © 2018 Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Total diatoms were related to the 20:5?3 fatty acid (eicosapentaenoic, EPA) content in seston. Among two dominant diatom genera, Cyclotella was not associated with EPA content. In contrast, there was a significant correlation between Stephanodiscus and the percentage contribution and content of EPA throughout the study. Hence, freshwater diatoms can differ strongly in content of the essential EPA. 3. We considered abundant cyanobacteria as a potential source of 18:3?3 fatty acid (linolenic, ALA) to aquatic food webs. Among four dominant cyanobacteria species, two (Anabaena flos-aquae and Planktothrix agardhii) showed significant correlation with the ALA content of the seston, while the other two (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae and Microcystis aeruginosa) did not. 4. Dinophyta had a relatively high level of 22:6?3 (docosahexaenoic, DHA) for freshwater species and can be also a source of EPA to aquatic food webs. 5. Our results show that various species of diatoms as well as cyanobacteria can be of contrasting nutritional value for zooplankton because of their different content of the essential PUFAs. Diatoms, which are low in EPA, could not be considered as a valuable food, while some field populations of cyanobacteria might be valuable sources of essential ALA.

Аннотация: New results obtained in the detection of rhythms in the low frequency range in the light signal of a small number of photo bacteria are reported. The luminescence of a small number of bacteria was recorded with an apparatus the sensitivity of which was 12 quanta/pulse. To check the possible rhythms in the luminescence of the bacteria, correlation analysis was made of the interpulse intervals of the detection of the signal with a computer. This revealed a definite rhythm in the bacterial luminescence the fundamental frequency of which lies in the region 8 c/s. Profound modulation of a bioluminescent signal at this and multiple frequencies was demonstrated. The harmonic components found in the spectrum of the signal refute the existing view of the continuous character of bacterial luminescence.

Аннотация: Emotions significantly influence physiological processes in the athlete’s body. The level of his/ her mental stress during training, competitions and recreation is obviously not the same. Taking into account the athletes’ well-known predisposition to alexithymia, there is a need to search for objective ways of the level of psycho-emotional stress assessment. Using the calculated Stress Index (SI), based on electroencephalogram indicators and level of situational anxiety as per the standard Spielberger-Hanin test, our work assesses and compares the differences in the athletes’ psycho-emotional state in various phases of the annual macrocycle. The study involved 155 athletes doing various sports. 96 athletes were males, their average age being 24.34 ± 3.54 years; 59 athletes were females with the average age of 23.12 ± 2.3 years. The control group consisted of 101 individuals who did not experience systematic high physical exertion, 53 of them being males with the average age of 23.17 ± 2.54, 48 — females with the average age of 22.12 ± 3.01 years. The athletes’ SI values are significantly different from those in the control group, as well as among themselves at various stages of the annual macrocycle. In the preparatory and transitional periods, the SI is significantly lower than in the control group. However, during the competitive period this index increases considerably. This is characteristic of a significant increase in the athletes’ psycho-emotional stress. There is a high positive correlation (r = 0.81) between the SI value and the number of points scored in the Spielberger-Hanin situational anxiety test. © Siberian Federal University. Аннотация: The bioluminescent bacterial enzyme system NAD(P)H:FMN-oxidoreductase-luciferase has been used as a test system for ecological monitoring. One of the modes to quench bioluminescence is the interaction of xenobiotics with the enzymes, which inhibit their activity. The use of endogenous flavin fluorescence for investigation of the interactions of non-fluorescent compounds with the bacterial luciferase from Photobacterium leiognathi and NAD(P)H:FMN-oxidoreductase from Vibrio fischeri has been proposed. Fluorescence spectroscopy methods have been used to study characteristics of endogenous flavin fluorescence (fluorophore lifetime, the rotational correlation time). The fluorescence anisotropy behaviour of FMN has been analysed and compared to that of the enzyme-bound flavin. The fluorescence characteristics of endogenous flavin of luciferase and NAD(P)H:FMN-oxidoreductase have been shown to be applicable in studying enzymes' interactions with non-fluorescent compounds. Аннотация: Class I polyhydroxyalkanoic acid (PHA) synthase gene (phaC) of Ralstonia eutropha strain B5786 was cloned and characterized. R. eutropha B5786 features the ability to synthesize multicomponent PHAs with short- and medium-chain-length monomers from simple carbohydrate substrate. A correlation was made between the molecular structure of PHA synthase and substrate specificity and the ability of strain-producers to accumulate PHAs of this or that structure. A strong similarity of PHA synthase of R. eutropha strain B5786 with PHA synthase of R. eutropha strain H16, which, as opposed to strain B5786, enables to incorporate medium chain length PHAs if hexanoate is used as carbon source, exhibited 99%. A correlation between the structure of PHA synthase of B5786 strain with synthases of microorganisms which synthesize short and medium chain length PHAs similarly to B5786 strain, showed an identity level from 26 to 41% (homology with synthase of Rhodospirillum rubrum makes 41%, Ectothiorhodospira shaposhnikovii makes 26%, Aeromonas punctata makes 40%, Thiococcus pfennigii makes 28%, Rhodococcus ruber makes 38%, and with PhaCl and PhaC2 synthases of Pseudomonas sp. 61-3 makes 34 and 37%, respectively). This allows for speaking about the absence of a direct connection between the molecular organization of PHA synthases and their functional abilities, namely, the ability to synthesize PHAs of a particular composition. Аннотация: The trophic position of fish is one of the most important factors controlling the accumulation of potentially toxic elements and compounds in fish tissues, primarily via the spectrum of fish nutrition. In this study, the content of potentially toxic transition metals (Cu, Zn, Mn, Pb, and Cd) and radiocesium (Cs-137) in the edible tissues (muscles and liver) of two representatives of the fish-eating ichthyofauna of the Yenisei River, northern pike (Esox lucius) and burbot (Lota lota), have been comparatively studied relatively to the size of the fish. A significant decrease in the content of radiocesium and zinc in the muscles of pike and zinc in the liver of pike with an increase in body size has been recorded in juvenile pikes with a body weight (W) of less than 0.35 kg. For larger sexually mature pikes, no significant size dependences of the accumulation of metals in tissues are found. A positive correlation is found between the content of Cs-137, Cu, Zn, and Mn in muscles and the size of burbot in the W range from 0.42 to 1.62 kg. The tissues of burbots and pikes of the same size significantly (p 0.05) differ in the concentration of metals in their tissues: concentrations of Zn and Mn are 1.6-2.2 times higher in the muscle of burbot; the concentration of Pb is 1.8 times higher in muscle of pike; Cu is twice as high in the liver of burbot; and Zn and Mn are 4.7 and 1.6 times higher in the liver of pike, respectively. These differences may be due to the different food spectra of pike and burbot. Concentrations of Cu, Zn, and Mn in the liver of pike are 3-7 times higher than in muscle; the concentration of Cu in the liver of burbot is 5 times higher than in muscle. Pb and Cd tend to be higher in liver than muscle for both fish species. Despite the revealed size dependences, the concentrations of potentially toxic metals and radiocesium in the muscles and liver of fish are below the permissible concentrations for food. These results can be used to assess environmental risks for the population consuming fish, as well as to plan for the long-term environmental monitoring of rivers using representatives of piscivorous fish.

Аннотация: During three field seasons (June-September) of 1997-99 contents of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Al, Cr, Ni, Cd, and Pb were determined in compartments of ecosystem (surrounding soils, bottom sediments, water, zoobenthos, macrophytes, and fish) of a fish and recreation pond situated at the edge of Krasnoyarsk City (Siberia, Russia). Contents of most parts of metals in soils, water, and macrophytes significantly correlated with each other. As concluded, their contents were determined by natural, general, geochemical peculiarities of the region. Heavy metals, contents of which were higher than federal upper limits of concentration, were revealed. In muscles of fish with different feeding spectra-crucian and perch-concentrations of some metals differed significantly; correlation graphs for metals also had different structures. Comparison of our data with those on diverse aquatic ecosystems of Siberia, Europe, North America, and China published in the last decade was carried out. It was concluded that a distribution of heavy metals in the compartments of an aquatic ecosystem presently have to be determined for each particular water body until general regularities are discovered.

Аннотация: The problem of correlation between rheological properties in macro- and micro- scales of media with biopolymers of polypeptide (gelatin) and polysaccharide (starch) nature is investigated. The viscosity of the biopolymer solutions with concentrations 0.5-5 wt% was estimated by standard rotational rheometry technique and with fluorescent molecular rotor at 15-50 A degrees C. Opposite trends were observed for relationship between microviscosity eta (m) and macroviscosity eta for two biopolymers: eta (m) eta for gelatin and eta (m) eta for starch solutions. The temperature dependence of eta (m) followed the monoexponential decay law in all samples over the whole temperature range indicating insensitivity of microviscosity to gel mesh melting under heating. The dissimilarity of macro- and micro-rheological properties of gelatin and starch-containing media is discussed in terms of difference in architecture of the gels.

Аннотация: A new method of evaluation of similarity between two nucleotide sequences is proposed. It is based on comparing frequency/correlation dictionaries of the sequences under investigation. The dictionary is a set of all strings of various length occurring within the sequences accompanied by their frequencies. The method proposed allows to compare sequences of arbitrary lengths, its advantage is absence of necessity of informal (expert) choice of the best fit. Efficiency of the method is demonstrated by comparison of several human genes and viruses.

Аннотация: During two sampling seasons we analyzed on weekly basis fatty acid (FA) composition of seston fraction 130?m and zooplankton fraction 130?m, and compared them using a multivariate canonical correlation analysis (CCA). Besides, we evaluated a possible impact of water temperature and inorganic nutrients on FA composition of the seston and the zooplankton.In spite of significant differences in percentages of several individual FAs, we found very strong canonical correlation (cross-correlation, 1-week lag) between FA composition of the seston and the zooplankton. The most important factor, providing the overall canonical cross-correlation between FA profiles of the seston and the zooplankton fractions was eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5?3, EPA). FA composition of the zooplankton fraction had comparatively poor correlations with taxonomic composition of the zooplankton. Thus, seasonal variations of FA composition of the zooplankton were determined primarily by seasonal changes in FA composition of the seston, rather than by taxonomic differences of FA profiles between rotifers, cyclopoids and cladocerans. FA composition of the seston was strongly affected by its taxonomic composition, namely by that of phytoplankton. According to CCA, the highest factor loadings pertained to diatoms interacting with their marker acids, including EPA, and cyanobacteria and greens, interacting with their marker acids. Ciliates and small rotifers composed considerable and sometimes major part of the seston biomass, but according to CCA their contributions to seasonal variations of the total FA profile of the seston were insignificant. This finding indirectly support the conclusion of the other authors, that the main source of FAs presented in ciliates and rotifers must be sought in algae and that they do not modify FA composition of food consumed, apart from repackaging it.Water temperature was the principal environmental parameter which drove the overall variations of FA composition. Factor loadings for the inorganic nutrients were comparatively negligible. The main contribution in the seasonal variation of FA composition of the seston was given by negative interaction between water temperature and percentage of EPA in the seston. В© 2009 Elsevier GmbH.

Аннотация: A simple fluorometric method is proposed for rapid determination of the concentration or biomass of bacterioplankton in various natural freshwater reservoirs and streams directly under field conditions. Fluorescamine, which specifically binds to proteins and amino acids in microbial cells, was used as the fluorescent marker. Regression equations were calculated on the basis of the results obtained. The coefficient of correlation between the fluorescence intensity and the bacterial biomass (cell number) was found to be 0.93 (0.89) for the total body of data obtained in the reservoirs studied.
