Аннотация: Cs-137 concentrations were measured in mushrooms in an area affected by radioactive discharges of the Mining-and-Chemical Combine (MCC) (Rosatom, Russia) in 2002-2017. The sources of radionuclides in the study sites were global fallouts and waterborne and airborne radioactive discharges of the MCC. The mushroom species Suillus granulatus and S. luteus showed the highest Cs-137 concentrations (140-7100 Bq kg(-1)) for this area. Over the entire monitoring period, no significant change in Cs-137 concentration was observed in the Suillus spp. samples collected from the sites with the aerial deposition of radionuclides. In the floodplain site with the radionuclide deposition from water and air, a significant decrease in the average Cs-137 concentration was observed in the period between 2004 and 2017: a three-fold decrease in Suillus spp. and a nine-fold decrease in Lactarius deliciosus. The effective half-lives of Cs-137 in fruiting bodies of the mushrooms L. deliciosus and Suillus spp. in this site were 3.6 +/- 0.6 and 9.2 +/- 2.7 years, respectively.

Adsorption of viral particles from the blood plasma of patients with viral hepatitis on nanodiamonds / A. V. Baron [et al.] // Doklad. Biochem. Biophys. - 2016. - Vol. 469, Is. 1. - P244-246, DOI 10.1134/S1607672916040037 . - ISSN 1607-6729
Аннотация: Adsorption of viral particles from the blood plasma of patients with viral hepatitis B and C on modified nanodiamonds (MNDs) was shown in the in vitro experiments. PCR method showed the treatment of plasma with MNDs leads to a decrease in the viral load by 2–3 orders of magnitude or more in both cases studied. These results make it possible to predict the applicability of MNDs for the development of new technologies of hemodialysis and plasmapheresis for binding and removal of viral particles from the blood of infected patients. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Аннотация: For systematic human Mars exploration, meeting crew safety requirements, it seems perspective to assemble into a spacecraft: an electrical rocket, a well-shielded long-term life support system, and a manipulator-robots operating in combined "presence effect" and "master-slave" mode. The electrical spacecraft would carry humans to the orbit of Mars, providing short distance (and low signal time delay) between operator and robot-manipulators, which are landed on the surface of the planet. Long-term hybrid biological and physical/chemical LSS could provide environment supporting human health and well being. Robot-manipulators operating in "presence effect" and "master-slave" mode exclude necessity of human landing on Martian surface decreasing the level of risk for crew. Since crewmen would not have direct contact with the Martian environment then the problem of mutual biological protection is essentially reduced. Lightweight robot-manipulators, without heavy life support systems and without the necessity of returning to the mother vessel, could be sent as scouts to different places on the planet surface, scanning the most interesting for exobiological research site. Some approximate estimations of electric spacecraft, long-term hybrid LSS, radiation protection and mission parameters are conducted and discussed. (C) 2002 COSPAR. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. Аннотация: Studies were conducted to investigate the antibiotic resistance of freshwater, halophile and moderate halotolerant bacteria isolated from the nearshore part of Shira lake, which is affected by the activity of a health resort, and from the central part of the lake in the summer (June to August) of 1999. It has been shown that the allochthonous microflora, which is brought into the lake with the resort effluent in mid-summer, is the anthropogenic factor contributing to an increase in the number of freshwater bacteria that feature multiple antibiotic resistance in the central part of the lake. It has been found that resistance to ampicillin of freshwater and halophile heterotrophic bacteria is related to the increase in the biomass of blue-green and green algae in the central part of Shira lake between mid-July and the end of August. A mathematical model has been constructed to describe the dynamics of the antibiotic resistance of heterotrophic bacteria in the close-to-resort and the central parts of Shira lake under natural and anthropogenic impacts.

Аннотация: In this study, tebuconazole (TEB)-loaded poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (P3HB)-based microparticles were developed and comprehensively characterized. TEB-loaded microparticles with the initial loading amounts of the fungicide of 10, 25, and 50% of the polymer mass (TEB 10, TEB 25, and TEB 50%) were prepared using emulsion technique. Encapsulation efficiency of TEB varied from 59 to 86%. As the loading amount was increased, the average diameter of microparticles increased too, from 41.3 to 71.7 µm, while zeta potential was not influenced by TEB loading, varying between –32.6 and –35.7 mV. TEB was gradually released from the microparticles to the model medium, and after 60 d, from 25 to 43% of TEB was released depending on the content of the encapsulated fungicide. The data obtained from in vitro TEB release were fitted to different mathematical models. It was shown that the release profiles of TEB could be best explained by the Zero-order, Higuchi, and Hixson–Crowell models. The antifungal activity of the P3HB/TEB microparticles against phytopathogenic fungi Fusarium moniliforme and Fusarium solani was demonstrated by in vitro tests conducted in Petri dishes. Thus, hydrophobic agrochemicals (TEB) can be effectively encapsulated into P3HB microparticles to construct slow-release formulations. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Benefit-risk ratio of food fish intake as the source of essential fatty acids vs. heavy metals: A case study of Siberian grayling from the Yenisei River / M. I. Gladyshev [et al.] // Food Chemistry. - 2009. - Vol. 115, Is. 2. - P545-550, DOI 10.1016/j.foodchem.2008.12.062 . - ISSN 0308-8146

Benefit-risk ratio -- Essential fatty acids -- Grayling -- Hazard quotient -- Heavy metals
Аннотация: A formula was derived for quantification of benefit-risk ratio (hazard quotient) for the intake of a product containing essential polyunsaturated fatty acids vs. heavy metals. The quotient was used in a three year case study of the contents of essential fatty acids and heavy metals in Siberian grayling, the main food fish from the middle section of the Yenisei River. As found, in general the fish intake was potentially very beneficial for human health, except on a few occasions, when the risk overweighed the benefit because of high contents of chromium in the fish muscle tissue. The data demonstrated the necessity for regular monitoring of the hazard quotients for food fish in wild conditions, based at least on monthly sampling frequency. В© 2008 Elsevier Ltd.     Benefits of biophysical tests of saliva for athletic functionality rating tests / A. M. Vyshedko [и др.] // Teor. Prakt. Fiz. Kult. - 2019. - Vol. 2019, Is. 7. - С. 65-67 . - ISSN 0040-3601

Antioxidant activity rate -- Bioluminescence test -- Chemoluminescence test -- Elite sports -- Residual luminescence -- Saliva
Аннотация: Modern physical training systems give a high priority to the training process individualizing elements that may be efficient enough only when supported by objective tests to rate the bodily responses to physical workloads. Moreover, success in modern professional sports is impossible unless supported by the newest medical/ biological findings and technologies in the health rating and forecast domains, with a special role played by the modern biophysical research of the cellular- and molecular-level biological processes. The study was designed to assess benefits of biophysical analysis of saliva for the athletic functionality rating tests. Sampled for the purposes of the study were athletes of different skill levels (from Class I to Honorary Masters of Sport) versus the untrained students, with the saliva sampled prior to and after physical trainings by bioluminescence and chemoluminescence test methods. The test data were processed by Statistica 10 (made by StatSoft Inc., the US) toolkit to produce median values (Me) and inter-quartile distribution (C25-C75 percentile) rates. The Mann-Whitney nonparametric U-test of the null hypothesis was used to rate differences of the independent variables, with the statistical difference rated meaningful at p<0.05. The bioluminescence tests found the higher ferment activity of saliva in the athletes’ versus untrained students, with the ferment activity in the bioluminescence tests also tested to grow after physical workloads in the highly-skilled athletes and fall in the untrained students. The study found the saliva antioxidant system functional intensity being athletic skills dependent. Therefore, the study has demonstrated benefits of the biophysical (bioluminescence and chemoluminescence) tests of saliva for the athletic functionality rating tests in the physical workload design and management initiatives. © 2019, Teoriya i praktika fizicheskoy kul'tury i sporta. Аннотация: The present study addresses the herbicidal activity and biological effects of the metribuzin (MET) and tribenuron-methyl (TBM) herbicides used to control various weed species (Amaranthus retroflexus, Sinapis arvensis, andLeucanthemum maximum). The effects of the free herbicides and the herbicides embedded in granules of degradable polymer poly-3-hydroxybutyrate [P(3HB)] blended with birch wood flour were compared. Metribuzin, regardless of the form, caused 100% mortality of the three weeds by day 21. The herbicidal activity of tribenuron-methyl was lower than that of metribuzin, but the embedded TBM was superior to the free herbicide in the length and strength of its action on the weeds. Both metribuzin forms dramatically decreased the main parameters of fluorescence: maximum quantum yield of photosystem-II [Y(II)(max)], maximum quantum yield of non-photochemical quenching [Y(NPQ)(max)], and maximum rate of non-cyclic electron transport [ETRmax] and concentrations of chlorophyllaandb. The effect of the embedded TBM on the photosynthetic activity of the weeds was lower in the first two weeks of the growth of herbicide-treated plants but lasted longer than the effect of the free TBM and increased over time. Embedding of metribuzin in the matrix of degradable blend did not decrease its herbicidal activity.

Аннотация: Closed Artificial ecosystems (CAES) have good prospects for wide use as new means for quantitative studies of different types of both natural ecosystems and man-made ones. The paper deals with the discussion of three points of CAES applications. The first one is of importance for theoretical ecology development and is connected with bringing together В«holisticВ» and В«merologicalВ» approaches in ecosystems studies. Using CAES, we can combine both approaches, taking into account the biotic turnover of limiting substrates which few in number even for complicated natural ecosystems. The second CAES use concerns the development of В«ecosystems healthВ» concept and application of a key-factor-approach for the indication and measurement of healthy unhealthy state and functioning of ecosystems or their links. The third use is more of an applied nature, oriented to the intensification of bioremediation or biodepollution processes in different types of ecosystems, including the global biosphere. Аннотация: Polymer poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB)] has been used as a matrix in slow-release formulations of the herbicide metribuzin (MET). Physical P(3HB)/MET mixtures in the form of solutions, powders, and emulsions were used to construct different metribuzin formulations (films, granules, pellets, and microparticles). SEM, X-Ray, and DSC proved the stability of these formulations incubated in sterile water in vitro for long periods of time (up to 49 days). Metribuzin release from the polymer matrix has been also studied. By varying the shape of formulations (microparticles, granules, films, and pellets), we were able to control the release time of metribuzin, increasing or decreasing it. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Polycaprolactone -- herbicide -- pesticide -- long-term -- extrusion
Аннотация: Different technologies to prepare long term pesticide forms include polymer coating, preparing composites and encapsulating pesticides in nanoparticles. A simple and low-cost method was proposed to obtain slow-release formulations by co-extrusion of a pesticide with a biodegradable polymer at a temperature above the melting points of both components. A herbicide metribuzin and low-melting polyester poly-epsilon-caprolactone were chosen for this work. Formulations containing 10%, 20%, and 40% herbicide were prepared. During 7 days of their exposition in water, it was released from 81% to 96% of initially loaded metribuzin; the highest release was detected for 40%-loaded forms. Biodegradation of the constructs and pesticide release were further studied in the model soil. Degradation rates of the specimens increased with an increase in pesticide content, from 9% to 20% over 14 weeks for the 10%/20%-loaded and the 40%-loaded specimens, respectively. The release of metribuzin reached, respectively, 37-38% and 55%. The herbicide content in soil was lower due to its partial degradation in soil; it reached 23-25% and 33%, respectively, from initially loaded into the polymer matrix. Release kinetics of metribuzin in water as in soil best fitted the First-order model. The used approach is promising for obtaining long-term release formulations for soil applications.

Аннотация: Experiments in vivo demonstrated the protective effect of modified nanodiamonds on guinea pig skin after local exposure cobalt ions, but not chrome ions. The observed differences are determined by different adsorption of these ions by nanodiamonds: in vitro experiments showed that nanodiamonds adsorbed cobalt ions, but not chrome ions from water solutions. The perspectives of using modified nanodiamonds as a new adsorbent for prevention of allergic contact dermatitis induced by ions of bivalent metals are discussed. © 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Docosahexaenoic fatty acid -- Sprecher pathway -- Fish diet -- Furan fatty -- acids -- Aquaculture
Аннотация: Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids of n-3 family (n-3 LC PUFAs) are physiologically essential compounds required for normal growth and development of animals, including humans. The ability of fish species to synthesize n-3 LC PUFAs varies significantly across different trophic levels. We have studied fatty acid (FA) content (mg/g of wet weight) and level (% of total FAs) in the brain, liver, heart, intestine, female and male gonads, muscle, and adipose tissues of commercially important wild freshwater Baikal grayling. Additionally, FA content and level of Baikal grayling juveniles have been studied. In all tissues of Baikal grayling, some LC PUFAs, namely, 24:5n-3 and 24:6n-3 (C24 PUFAs), have been found. These FAs are the intermediate products in the synthesis of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3) by the Sprecher pathway. The levels of C24 PUFAs in tissues differed significantly: the highest levels of C24 PUFAs were found in adipose tissue and the lowest values in the gonads of females, liver, brain, and head of juveniles. According to the dynamics of DHA and C24 PUFAs, the maximum rate of DHA synthesis is achieved in brain of Baikal grayling, while the lowest rate of DHA synthesis probably occurs in adipose tissue. Although all studied tissues had differences in the number of FAs and their levels, 16:0, 18:1n-9, 16:1n-7, 20:5n-3, and DHA dominated. Male gonads contained an extremely high level of furan FAs - presumably beneficial substances for human health. Additionally, the nutritional value of the tissues of Baikal grayling as a source of n-3 LC PUFAs for humans has been estimated.
