Аннотация: A feature of meromictic lakes is that several physicochemical and biological gradients affect the vertical distribution of different organisms. The vertical stratification of physical, chemical and biological components in saline, fishless meromictic lakes Shira and Shunet (Siberia, Russia) is quite different mainly because both mean depth and maximum depth of lakes differ as well as their salinity levels differ. The chemocline of the Lake Shira, as in many meromictic lakes, is inhabited by bacterial community consisting of purple sulphur and heterotrophic bacteria. As the depth of the chemocline is variable, the bacterial community does not attain high densities. The mixolimnion in Lake Shira, which is thermally stratified in summer, also creates different habitat for various species. The distribution of phytoplankton is non-uniform with its biomass peak in the metalimnion. The distribution of zooplankton is also heterogeneous with rotifers and juvenile copepods inhabiting the warmer epilimnion and older copepods found in the cold but oxic hypolimnion. The amphipod Gammarus lacustris which can be assigned to the higher trophic link in the fishless lake's ecosystem, such as Lake Shira, is also distributed non-uniformly, with its peak density generally observed in the thermocline region. The chemocline in Lake Shunet is located at the depth of 5 m, and unlike in Lake Shira, due to a sharp salinity gradient between the mixolimnion and monimolimnion, this depth is very stable. The mixolimnion in Lake Shunet is relatively shallow and the chemocline is inhabited by (1) an extremely dense bacterial community; (2) a population of Cryptomonas sp.; and (3) ciliate community comprising several species. As the mixolimnion of Lake Shunet is not thermally stratified for long period, the phytoplankton and zooplankton populations are not vertically stratified. The gammarids, however, tend to concentrate in a narrow layer located 1-2 m above the chemocline. We believe that in addition to vertical inhomogeneities of both physicochemical parameters, biological and physical factors also play a role in maintaining these inhomogeneities. We conclude that the stratified distributions of the major food web components will have several implications for ecosystem structure and dynamics. Trophic interactions as well as mass and energy flows can be significantly impacted by such heterogeneous distributions. Species spatially separated even by relatively short distances, say a few centimetres will not directly compete. Importantly, we demonstrate that not only bacteria, phytoflagellates and ciliate tend to concentrate in thin layers but also larger-sized species such Gammarus (amphipods) can also under certain environmental conditions have stratified distribution with maxima in relatively thin layer. As the vertical structure of the lake ecosystem is rather complex in such stratified lakes as ours, the strategy of research, including sampling techniques, should consider potentially variable and non-homogeneous distributions. Аннотация: Since introduction of neural networks into remote sensing they demonstrate good efficiency in remote sensing data analysis. This work is devoted to processing of multispectral (12 bands) images from Sentinel-2(A, B) satellites. Satellite images of areas in Krasnoyarsk Region and Khakassia with known vegetation types are used as task books to train neural networks. Trained neural networks have been reduced to determine which bands are significant for vegetation type identification. Reduction of trained neural network show that vegetation type can be determined from only four infrared bands without significant loses in performance in comparison with non-reduced neural network. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Аннотация: We examined the dynamics of the vertical stratification of physical, chemical and biological factors in a brackish meromictic lake with a deep-water chlorophyll maximum (Shira Lake, Russia, Khakasia) during the growing season and estimated how the vertical distribution of these factors influences the vertical distribution of the zooplankton community. The vertical distribution of zooplankton was restricted by the anoxic hypolimnion. Nauplii and younger copepodides (C1-C3) of the copepod, Arctodiaptomus salinus, and the rotifer, Brachionus plicatilis, were found in the upper warm waters. During summer stratification the maximum of A. salinus biomass, which consisted mainly of older copepodides (C4-C5) and females, was associated with the deep-water maximum of biomass of green algae, which are the preferred diet for this species. The vertical distribution of the rotifer Hexarthra oxiuris was bimodal with numerical peaks in the epi- and hypolimnion. Reproduction peaks of dominant species were separated in time. The reproduction peak of A. salinus was at the beginning of summer when A. salinus constituted up to 99% of total zooplankton biomass. The development of rotifers was detected after the reproduction peak of A. salinus when the biomass of rotifers reached 50% of total zooplankton biomass. В© 2007 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.

Аннотация: The vertical distribution and abundance of Gammarus lacustris in the pelagic zone of two fishless meromictic lakes, L. Shira and L. Shunet, in Southern Siberia (Russia), was studied with the underwater video recording system and using vertical hauls. In both lakes, during summer stratification, Gammarus was distributed non-homogenously, with a stable peak in the metalimnion. The average depth of Gammarus population in the pelagic zone was significantly correlated with the depth of the thermocline. Gammarus abundances obtained using vertical plankton hauls with net were quite comparable with those obtained from video records. The peak abundance of Gammarus in the pelagic zone of the lakes observed with underwater video amounted up to 400 individuals m-2, while the peak animal densities in the metalimnion reached 50 ind. m-3. The data are compared with previously published abundances of Gammarus in the littoral of Lake Shira. Both littoral and pelagic can be equally important habitats for amphipods in meromictic lakes. The absence of fish in the pelagic zone, high oxygen concentration, low water temperature, increased seston concentration, elevated water density in the metalimnion and the anoxic hypolimnion can be the most probable combination of factors that are responsible for the peak of Gammarus in the metalimnion of these lakes. Заглавие : The Restoration Dynamics of Fallow Vegetation in the Steppe Zone of the Khakassia Republic Based on Terrain and Satellite Data
Место публикации : Biophysics: Pleiades Publishing, 2019. - Vol. 64, Is. 2. - С. 309-315. - ISSN 00063509 (ISSN) , DOI 10.1134/S0006350919020039
Аннотация: Abstract: The dynamics and specific features of the restoration of forbs–grass–wormwood and wormwood–grass phytocoenoses on fallow lands in the Altai region, the Republic of Khakassia, were determined on the basis of terrain and satellite data. The species composition, structure, and phytomass of the phytocoenoses were revealed. A gradual formation of structural elements of steppe communities in the studied areas was determined. This work showed the usefulness of time series of satellite data on the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) obtained with the use of MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) for the study of specific features of restored fallows. In general the biological parameters, projective cover, and phytomass determine the value of the NDVI. Interannual NDVI variability reflects the rate and time period of fallow restoration. From a certain point, the parameters increased and became close to the steppe (control variant). It has been revealed that not only abiotic factors (climate and soils), but also biotic parameters (grazing and recreational load) affect the NDVI. In this connection, the duration of restoration stages does not always correspond to the published data. They vary under different conditions. Climatic data of the Abakan meteorological station (index 29862 in the network of the World Meteorological Organization) for the period from 2000 to 2017 were statistically treated. The long-term annual average norms of temperatures and precipitation amounts (year and month) for the World Meteorological Organization base period of 1961–1990 were calculated. The dynamics of the temperature and precipitation, using long-term series of data, has been analyzed. © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: In a brackish, temperate, 24-m-deep Lake Shira, the profiles of salinity, temperature, oxygen and sulfide concentrations were measured on a seasonal basis from 2002 to 2009. The lake was shown to be meromictic with autumnal overturn restricted to mixolimnion. The depth of mixolimnion and position of oxic-anoxic interface varied annually. The spring mixing processes contribute to the formation of mixolimnion in autumn. The exceptionally windy spring of 2007 caused the deepening of mixolimnion in the winter of 2008. The winter position of oxic-anoxic interface was affected by the position of lower boundary of mixolimnion in all winters. The salinity in the winter mixolimnion increased compared with the autumn because of freezing out of salts from the upper water layers meters during ice formation and their dissolution in water below. The profiles of salinity and temperature were simulated by the mathematical 1-D model of temperature and salinity conditions taking into account ice formation. The simulated profiles generally coincided with the measured ones. The coincidence implies that simplified one-dimensional model can be applied to roughly describe salinity and density profiles and mixing behavior of Lake Shira. В© 2010 The Author(s).

Аннотация: The relevance of the work is caused by the need to study seasonal variations in the volume and composition of sedimentation flows in modern lakes and their relationship with weather and climatic factors, which can serve as a basis for reconstructing climatic changes in the past. The main aim: to assess seasonal changes in the mass, velocity and chemical composition of sedimentary material entering Lake Shira on the basis of generalization and analysis of the results of multiyear annual monitoring of the material of sedimentation traps incubated in the lake. Object of the study was the drainless, slightly saline meromictic lake Shira, located in the steppe intermontane depression on the territory of the Republic of Khakassia. Methods: long-term seasonal monitoring of sedimentary material forming bottom sediments using sedimentation traps incubated in the lake; study of the obtained material for a wide range of parameters (biological, hydrochemical, lithological-geochemical, granulometric, etc.) by various conventional methods, including the method of X-ray fluorescence microanalysis on synchrotron radiation beams (XRF-SI), adapted for the study of bottom samples; computer statistical analysis of the data obtained (multiple regression method, cross-correlation analysis, etc.) in order to identify the relationship between regional temperatures and the chemical composition of the deposited material with the construction of a regression model. Results. Based on the study of the amount and elemental composition of the sedimentary material of the seasonal bottom traps of Lake Shira, collected for 2012-2017, a dynamic model of the seasonal influx of sedimentary flows in lakes of this landscape-geochemical type was formulated. It has been established that the most intensive sedimentation of the material occurs in the summer-autumn period, less - in the winter-spring period. At the same time, in spring, the accumulation of allochthonous (terrigenous) aleurite material, supplied with flood waters, predominates; in the summer-autumn period, simultaneously with the deposition of clastogenic pelitic material, biogenic and chemogenic materials are accumulated in sediments in large quantities. In winter, clastogenic and biogenic processes of sedimentation practically stop, only chemogenic sedimentation of carbonates is observed. It was established that the sedimentation of allochthonous material entering the reservoir occurs during two-three months, which indicates a certain inertness of sedimentation. The presence of a stable relationship between the mass and chemical composition of terrigenous material entering the lake with the regional temperature of the near-surface air, which is one of the main regulators of the water balance of the reservoir, is shown.

Аннотация: Seasonal studies of the anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial community of the water column of the saline eutrophic meromictic Lake Shunet (Khakassia) were performed in 2002 (June) and 2003 (February-March and August). From the redox zone down, the lake water was of dark green color. Green sulfur bacteria predominated in every season. The maximum number of green sulfur bacteria was 107 cells/ml in summer and 106 cells/ml in winter. A multi-syringe stratification sampler was applied for the study of the fine vertical distribution of phototrophs in August 2003; the sampling was performed every 5 cm. A 5-cm-thick pink-colored water layer inhabited by purple sulfur bacteria was shown to be located above the layer of green bacteria. The species composition and ratio of purple bacterial species depended on the sampling depth and on the season. In summer, the number of purple sulfur bacteria in the layer of pink water was 1.6 ? 108 cells/ml. Their number in winter was 3 ? 105 cells/ml. In the upper oxygen-containing layer of the chemocline the cells of purple nonsulfur bacteria were detected in summer. The maximum number of nonsulfur purple bacteria, 5 ? 102 cells/ml, was recorded in August 2003. According to the results of the phylogenetic analysis of pure cultures of the isolated phototrophic bacteria, which were based on 16S rDNA sequencing, green sulfur bacteria were close to Prosthecochloris vibrioformis, purple sulfur bacteria, to Thiocapsa and Halochromatium species, and purple nonsulfur bacteria, to Rhodovulum euryhalinum and Pinkicyclus mahoneyensis. Аннотация: Shira Lake is a good representative object for detail weather-climate modeling due to its local hydroclimatic information and annually laminated bottom sediments. Carbonate biochemical mineralization in Shira Lake shows not only seasonal but also centennial pulses over each 450-500 years. An age-depth model has been built by layer counting combined with 137Cs and 14C isotopic dates. Thermodynamic estimation of the rock-water multisystem in conformity with local conditions and source matter provides grounds for interpretation of measured geochemical parameters in sediments including environmental indicators such as temperature, salinity, and pH. Scanning X-ray fluorescence for sub-millimeter microstratigraphic study of varves connects geochemical oscillations of microelement content (Rb, Ti, Ca, Sr, Br, XRD) with seasonality, as well as revealing centennial pulses of environmental change. Quantitative environmental reconstruction using multiple regression for precipitation calibrated by hydrometeorological time series year by year was carried out for the lake over the last 2500 years. Аннотация: Prospects for remote ground and satellite sensing to monitor agricultural (agrocenoses) and grass (meadows and steppes) vegetation are considered. This helps assess chlorophyll contents, crop yields, impurities of territories and identify agrocenoses. Investigation of vegetation on salinized soils identified the necessity to consider the succession of limiting factors (temperature and the degree of soil salinization). The results of studies on grassland plant communities in Khakassia based on geobotanical descriptions and ground spectral measurements are presented, allowing the refinement of methods that improve the accuracy of deciphering satellite images of medium and low resolutions.

Аннотация: The previously undescribed dynamics of the heat shock protein HSP70 and subsequent lipid peroxidation products have been assessed alongside lactate dehydrogenase activity for Gammarus lacustris Sars, an amphipod species from the saltwater Lake Shira (Republic of Khakassia). Individuals were exposed to a gradual temperature increase of 1 degrees C/hour (total exposure duration of 26 hours) starting from the mean annual temperature of their habitat (7 degrees C) up to 33 degrees C. A complex of biochemical reactions occurred when saltwater G. lactustris was exposed to the gradual changes in temperature. This was characterized by a decrease in lactate dehydrogenase activity and the launching of lipid peroxidation. The HSP70 level did not change significantly during the entire experiment. In agreement with the concept of oxygen-limited thermal tolerance, an accumulation of the most toxic lipid peroxides (triene conjugates and Schiff bases) in phospholipids occurred at the same time and temperature as the accumulation of lactate. The main criterion overriding the temperature threshold was, therefore, the transition to anaerobiosis, confirmed by the elevated lactate levels as observed in our previous associated study, and by the development of cellular stress, which was expressed by an accumulation of lipid peroxidation products. An earlier hypothesis, based on freshwater individuals of the same species, has been confirmed whereby the increased thermotolerance of G. lacustris from the saltwater lake was caused by differences in energy metabolism and energy supply of nonspecific cellular stress-response mechanisms. With the development of global climate change, these reactions could be advantageous for saltwater G. lacustris. The studied biochemical reactions can be used as biomarkers for the stress status of aquatic organisms when their habitat temperature changes.

Аннотация: Resistance to Ampicillin and Kanamycin displayed by heterotrophic bacteria isolated in Summer and in Spring from the littoral and the central parts of Lake Shira (a therapeutic lake in the Khakasia Republic, Russia) has been investigated. It has been found that in Summer, human and animal microflora featuring multiple antibiotic resistance (to Ampicillin and Kanamycin) predominates in all the studied stations of the littoral zone of the lake. In Spring, concentrations of bacteria featuring multiple antibiotic resistance decrease significantly and bacteria sensitive to antibiotics predominate in the lake. Emergence of multiple antibiotic resistance in bacteria of Lake Shira is caused by the input of allochthonous bacteria into the lake; this feature of heterotrophic bacteria of Lake Shira can be used to monitor the impact on the ecosystem made by health resorts. Аннотация: The spatio-temporal organization of the bacterial community inhabiting the chemocline of the stratified meromictic Lake Shunet (Khakassia, Russia) was investigated from May to September 2005 by means of microscopy, analysis of photosynthetic pigments, and PCR-DGGE with subsequent 16S rDNA analysis. The samples were collected with a multisyringe stratification sampler, sampling being performed every 5 cm. It was demonstrated that, during the period of investigation, there were no large changes in the bacterial community of the chlemocline, at least among the detected forms. During the whole period of study, purple sulfur bacteria related to Lamprocystis purpurea (Chromatiaceae) were predominant in the chemocline. Beneath the layer of purple bacteria, green sulfur bacteria were revealed that were phylogenetically distant from strain ShNPel02, which was previously isolated from this lake. Development of phytoflagellates of the genus Cryptomonas was observed in the upper zone of the chemocline. In the chemocline of Lake Shunet, the numbers of picoplankton cyanobacteria of the genus Synechococcus increased from May to September. It was demonstrated that the application of universal bacterial primers for DGGE resulted in the same qualitative distributional pattern of predominant species as microscopic studies. Аннотация: The seasonal dynamics of the vertical structure of small saline Lake Uchum, located in the steppe arid zone of the south of Siberia (Krasnoyarsk krai), has been studied in detail for the first time. This lake is a meromictic water body. We have revealed a heterogeneous vertical distribution of plankton organisms and a dense population of purple sulfuric bacteria in the redox zone. The taxonomic composition and seasonal dynamics of phyto- and zooplankton are described. Presumably, the meromixis of Lake Uchum is due to the inflow of fresh water to the surface of the saline water body during the rise of its level in the early 20th century, similarly to lakes Shira and Shunet located nearby. The processes of salt displacement into the solution during the formation of ice, as well as the precipitation of salts in the winter, also contribute to the maintenance of permanent stratification. The information on the current state of the lake can be useful for reconstructing the climate by bottom sediments, as well as for creating a model of water quality and investigating the therapeutic properties of lake mud.

Аннотация: The growth and development of Brachionus plicatilis (Muller), a rotifer and one of the most abundant zooplankton species in Lake Shira, a saline lake at low temperature in the Republic of Khakassia, was studied in cultures at different trophic conditions. Growth indices were evaluated at natural (lake) concentrations of bacteria, Chlorella vulgaris, a microalga, and Candida utilis, a yeast. The negative effect on rotifer reproduction in the algal-bacterial community by blue-green algae was demonstrated. The ratio of ontogenetic periods was shown to be in accord with species and food concentration. Base values required to calculate B. plicatilis population simulation model parameters were defined.

Аннотация: Abstract: Frozen upper layers of the bottom sediment of Lake Shira are selected using special sampling equipment. Frozen samples and solid samples prepared from the upper layers of a sediment core are examined by means of X-ray fluorescence at the Local and Scanning X-Ray Fluorescence Elemental Analysis Station of the Siberian Synchrotron and Terahertz Radiation Center’s Shared Resource Center. Analytical data on the initial frozen and processed solid samples demonstrate the good repeatability of the results. Quantitative estimates of the sedimentation regimes are obtained, and geochemical indicators of the change in redox conditions are determined from the analysis data. Lithological and geochemical records are synchronized with regional seasonal and annual variations in weather and climate, and with the hydrological regime of the lake for the last 50 years. © 2019, Allerton Press, Inc.
