Аннотация: Bryophytes are abundant in streams and are a habitat for many invertebrates, but their contribution to the diet of fluvial zoobenthos is still debated. To estimate the amount of bryophyte-derived organic matter assimilated by benthic invertebrates, we used a combination of fatty acid and stable isotope analyses during a four-year monthly study of a littoral site in the Yenisei River (Siberia, Russia). Acetylenic acids, which are highly specific biomarkers of the water moss Fontinalis antipyretica, were found in lipids of all dominant benthic animals: gammarids, ephemeropterans, chironomids and trichopterans. The dominant zoobenthic species, Eulimnogammarus viridis, had maximum levels of the biomarkers in its biomass during winter, and minimum levels in summer. The zoobenthos in the studied site regularly consume and assimilate bryophyte-derived organic matter as a minor supplemental food. This consumption increases in winter, when the main food source of the zoobenthos, epilithic biofilms, are probably scarce. В© 2010 Versita Warsaw and Springer-Verlag Wien.

Toxic effects of the fungicide tebuconazole on the root system of fusarium-infected wheat plants / E. Shishatskaya [et al.] // Plant Physiol. Biochem. - 2018. - Vol. 132. - P400-407, DOI 10.1016/j.plaphy.2018.09.025 . - ISSN 0981-9428

Border cells -- Carbonylated proteins -- Free proline -- Fusarium -- Malondialdehyde -- Tebuconazole
Аннотация: The study investigates toxic effects of the fungicide tebuconazole (TEB) on Fusarium-infected wheat (Triticum aestivum) plants based on the morphological characteristics of root apices and changes in the integrated parameters of redox homeostasis, including the contents of free proline and products of peroxidation of proteins (carbonylated proteins, CP) and lipids (malondialdehyde, MDA) in roots. In two-day-old wheat sprouts infected by Fusarium graminearum, the levels of proline, CP, and border cells of root apices are higher than in roots of uninfected sprouts by a factor of 1.4, 8.0, and 3, respectively. The triazole fungicide tebuconazole (TEB) at the concentrations of 0.01, 0.10, and 1.00 ?g ml?1 of medium causes a dose-dependent decrease in the number of border cells. The study of the effects of TEB and fusarium infection on wheat plants in a 30-day experiment shows that the effect of the fungicide TEB on redox homeostasis in wheat roots varies depending on the plant growth stage and is significantly different in ecosystems with soil and plants infected by Fusarium phytopathogens. The study of the morphology of root apices shows that the toxic effects of TEB and fusarium infection are manifested in the destructive changes in root apices and the degradation of the root tip mantle. © 2018 Elsevier Masson SAS

Аннотация: Food spectrum of microzooplancton in fresh-water ecological systems is lowly studied area. However, these organisms play very important role in transfer of substance and energy in water reservoirs. Traditional method of analysis of food in the microzooplancton does not makes it possible to determine real assimilation of organic substance. Therefore, biochemical methods have been developed which are based on analysis of compositions of fatty acids of organic substance. This leads to determining of the food assimilation. Fatty-acid compositions of lipids allow specialists to determine specific groups of organisms such as bacteria, microalgae etc. Data of the analysis are presented.

Аннотация: The lipid composition of the green alga Botryococcus was studied at three different cultivation temperatures: suboptimal (18degreesC), optimal (25degreesC), and supraoptimal (32degreesC). Cultivation at the supraoptimal temperature was found to considerably inhibit the synthesis of nearly all intracellular lipids, except for triacylglycerides, and to influence their fatty acid composition. In particular, the content of trienoic fatty acids was significantly lower at the supraoptimal than at the optimal cultivation temperature. At the same time, the fatty acid composition of the extracellular lipids of the alga virtually did not depend on cultivation temperature.

Аннотация: The CO-resistant strain B5786 of the hydrogen-oxidizing bacterium Alcaligenes eutrophus was found to be able to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) under the conditions of growth limitation by nitrogen deficiency (the factor that promotes PHA synthesis) and growth inhibition by carbon monoxide. The gas mixtures that contained from 5 to 20 vol % CO did not inhibit the key enzymes of PHA synthesis-?-ketothiolase, acetoacetyl-CoA reductase, hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase, and PHA synthase. In the presence of CO, cells accumulated up to 70-75 wt % PHA (with respect to the dry biomass) without any noticeable increase in the consumption of the gas substrate. Chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis showed that the PHA synthesized by A. eutrophus is a copolymer containing more than 99 mol % ?-hydroxybutyrate and trace amounts of ?-hydroxyvalerate. The PHA synthesized under the conditions described did not differ from that synthesized by A. eutrophus cells from electrolytic hydrogen.

Аннотация: The structure of liquid hydrocarbons and fatty acids produced by the green alga Botryococcus was identified. Two representatives of this alga, Botryococcus braunii Kutz, strain IPPAS H-252, introduced into culture earlier and an organism isolated for the first time from the Shira Lake, were used for this identification. Fatty acid composition of B. braunii, strain H-252, lipids was characterized by a high content of trienoic acids of C16-C18 series. The hydrocarbon composition of this strain was represented by straight-chain and branched-chain C14-C28 components; long-chain linear aliphatic C20-C27 hydrocarbons (54.4%) and 2,6,10,14-tetramethylhexadecane (20.5%) predominated among them. The strain H-252 differed in its fatty acid and hydrocarbon composition from the strains described earlier as Botryococcus braunii. The fatty acid composition of the Botryococcus isolate was represented mainly by C12-C32 saturated and monoenoic acids. The hydrocarbons formed by this isolate were represented by dienoic and trienoic components. C29 (48.9-56.3%) and C31 (11.1-16.3%) hydrocarbons predominated among the C23-C31 dienoic hydrocarbons, and C27, C29, and C31 trienoic hydrocarbons comprised 2.5-2.6% of total hydrocarbons. This type of hydrocarbons and the lipid fatty acid composition were characteristic for the race A of B. braunii.

Аннотация: Identification of lipid fatty acids (FA) and studying of their seasonal dynamics in water moss Fontinalis antipyretica from the Yenisei River were carried out by means of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. FA composition of water moss was notable for a relatively low level of saturated acids and predominance of polyunsaturated acids (PUFA) with double bonds (accounting for more than 30% of total FA) and polyunsaturated acids with double and triple bonds (acetylenic acids, accounting for more than 40% of total FA). Among PUFA, ?- and ?-linolenic (18:3?3 and 18:3?6), arachidonic (20:4?6), and eicosapentaenoic (20:5?3) acids prevailed. Relative content of PUFA from ?3-family was the greatest in spring, and the level of PUFA from ?6-group was essentially the same throughout all the seasons. In the biomass of water moss, we identified seven acetylenic acids; among them octadeca-9,12-dien-6-ynoic (6a,9,12-18:3), octadeca-9,12,15-trien-6-ynoic (6a,9,12,15-18:4), and eicosa-11,14-dien-8-ynoic (8a,11,14-20:3) acids were predominant. For the first time, in the lipids of water moss we identified an acetylenic eicosa-11,14,17-trien-8-ynoic acid (8a,11,14,15-20:4). Relative content of acetylenic acids in the total FA was great throughout the entire period of investigation with the peak accumulation in summer. Owing to a steadily high level in the biomass of water moss and the lack of other producers of these acids in the ecosystem, acetylenic FA are highly specific biochemical markers useful for the investigation of trophic interactions between higher aquatic plants and zoobenthos. Аннотация: One of the ways of solving the problem of the human liquid wastes utilization in bioregenerative life support systems (BLSS) can be the use of halophytic vegetable plant Salicornia europaea capable of accumulating sodium chloride in rather high concentrations. Since the most specific higher plant function in BLSS, which at present cannot be substituted by physicochemical processes, appears to be the biosynthesis of a wide spectrum of nutritive substances necessary for a human, the object of the given work was the investigation of the S. europaea productivity, biochemical and mineral composition when grown under close to optimal BLSS vegetative component conditions. As the use of human urine after its preliminary physicochemical processing is supposed to be the mineral solution basis for the S. europaea cultivation, it is necessary to clear up the effect of reduced nitrogen on plants growth. Ground research was carried out. Biochemical composition of the S. europaea edible part showed that crude protein was contained in the highest degree. At that the content of crude protein (24% per dry weight) and cellulose (4.7% per dry weight) was higher in the plants grown on solutions containing amide nitrogen in comparison with the plants grown on solutions with nitrate nitrogen (15.4%-3.1% correspondingly). The water-soluble sugar contents were not high in the S. europaea edible part and depending on the nitrogen nutrition form they amounted to 1.1% (amide nitrogen) and 1.5% (nitrate nitrogen). The polysaccharide number (except cellulose) was rather higher and varied from 7.7% to 8.2%. Although the lipid content in the S. europaea plants was relatively low (7% per dry weight), it was shown that the plant lipids are characterized by a high nonsaturation degree mainly due to alpha linolenic and linoleic acids. Nitrogen nutrition form did not significantly affect the S. europaea productivity, and dry edible biomass of one plant was 8.6 g. Sodium and its concentrations predominated in the plant mineral composition and amounted in average to 9% per dry weight. Thus the S. europaea being the vegetable plant it can be the source of several biochemical substances and essential fatty acids. The present work also considers the influence of nitrate and amide forms of nitrogen on S. europaea biochemical and mineral composition. В© 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Batch culture -- Botryococcus braunii -- Liquid hydrocarbons -- Productivity
Аннотация: The growth, productivity, and changes in the chemical composition of the green alga Botryococcus braunii Kutz H-252 were studied at different phases of growth in a luminostat culture. Modification of the Prat medium resulted in an increase in the alga yield to 3.9 g/l and a decrease in the generation time to 3-4 days. The specific growth rate during the exponential phase was 0.235/ day. These values are comparable with the best results obtained abroad. Among the pigments of B. braunii, besides chlorophylls a and b, carotene, lutein, neoxanthin, and violaxanthin were also identified. The highest content of these pigments, based on dry weight, was achieved during the exponential growth phase. During culture aging, there was an accumulation of carbohydrates and lipids in addition to a simultaneous decrease in the concentration of nitrogen-containing substances. It was discovered that this strain can synthesize liquid hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons were found both in the alga biomass (ca. 1% of dry weight) and among the extracellular metabolites (up to 10.3 mg/l).

Аннотация: The lipid fraction of the green alga Botryococcus cultured in a batch mode was found to contain polar lipids (more than 50% of the total lipids), di- and triacylglycerols, sterols and their eaters, free fatty acids, and hydrocarbons. In aging culture, the content of polar lipids somewhat decreased and that of triacylglycerols increased by more than four times. The content of hydrocarbons in the algal biomass did not exceed 0.9% and depended little on the culture age. Intracellular lipids contained saturated and unsaturated (mono-, di-, and trienoic) fatty acids. The maximum content of C-16:3 and alpha -C-18 :3 fatty acids (up to 35% of the total fatty acids) was detected in the phase of active growth. The extracellular and intracellular lipids of the al,oa differed in the proportion of particular lipids and in the fatty acid pattern.

Аннотация: Lipid composition and hydrocarbon structure of two colonial green algae of the genus Botryococcus, i.e., a mu seum strain and a field sample collected for the first time from Lake Shira (Khakasia, Siberia), have been compared. Polar lipids, diacylglycerols, alcohols, triacylglycerols, sterols, sterol esters, free fatty acids and hydrocarbons have been identified among lipids in the laboratory culture. The dominant fraction in the museum strain was formed by polar lipids (up to 50% of the lipids) made up of fatty acids from C12 to C24. Palmitic, oleic, C16 - C18 dienoic and trienoic acids were the main fatty acids of the museum strain. Aliphatic hydrocarbons were found in the lipid of the museum strain. However, these amounted maximally to about 1% of the dry biomass at the end of exponential growth phase. The qualitative and quantitative compositions of FAs and hydrocarbons of the museum strain of Botryococcus, (registered at the Cambridge collection as Botryococcus braunii Kutz No LB 807/1 Droop 1950 H-252) differed from those of the Botryococcus strain described in the literature as Botryococcus braunii. The Botryococcus sp. found in Lake Shira is characterized by a higher lipid content (< 40% of the dry weight). Polar lipids, sterols, triacylglycerols, free fatty acids and hydrocarbons have been identified among lipids in the field sample. The main lipids in this sample were dienes and trienes (hydrocarbons < 60% of total lipid). Monounsaturated and very long chain monounsaturated fatty acids, including C28:1 and C32:1 acids, were identified in the Botryococcus found in Lake Shira. The chemo-taxonomic criteria allow us to unequivocally characterize the organism collected from Lake Shira as Botryococcus braunii race A.
