Аннотация: Modified nanodiamonds (MNDs) produced by detonation synthesis can be used as an effective adsorbent to immobilize extracellular peroxidases of the luminous basidiomycete Neonothopanus nambi. The enzymes are firmly immobilized on MND particles and exhibit catalytic activity. The indicator system (the MND-enzyme complex) reused many times retains its ability to catalyze reaction of co-oxidation of phenol and 4-aminoantipirine in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and remains functionally active during long-term storage (for 1 month or longer) in aqueous suspensions at 4 degrees C. MNDs and enzymes of higher fungi can be effectively used to construct new reusable indicator systems for analytical applications such as monitoring contamination of aquatic environments by phenolic compounds.

Аннотация: Substrates pretreatment in suspensions of a detonation nanodiamond is widely used for nucleation of diamond growth by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). We found that iron inclusions in the nanodiamond provide catalytical growth of carbon nanotubes during CVD in a hot filament reactor (HF CVD). Carbon nanotubes grow in the area between two adjacent Si wafers. The diameters of such obtained nanotubes were in the range of 10-100 nm and the length of the tubes reaches about 10 mu m. The proposed HF CVD method has convincing potential for the fabrication of carbon nanotube coatings on a large surface area.

Аннотация: We report on a saturable absorption in aqueous dispersions of nanodiamonds with femtosecond laser pulse excitation at a wavelength of 795 nm. The open aperture Z-scan experiments reveal that in a wide range of nanodiamond particle sizes and concentrations, a lightinduced increase of transmittance occurs. The transmittance increase originates from the saturation of light absorption and is associated with a light absorption at 1.5 eV by graphite and dimer chains (Pandey dimer chains). The obtained key nonlinear parameters of nanodiamond dispersions are compared with those of graphene and carbon nanotubes, which are widely used for the mode-locking. © 2017 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

Аннотация: A bioluminescent enzyme inhibition-based assay was applied to predict the potential toxicity of carbon nanomaterials (CNM) presented by single- and multi-walled nanotubes (SWCNT and MWCNT) and aqueous solutions of hydrated fullerene C-60 (C(60)HyFn). This assay specifically detects the influence of substances on parameters of the soluble or immobilised coupled enzyme system of luminescent bacteria: NAD(P)H:FMN-oxidoreductase + luciferase (Red + Luc). A protocol based on the optical properties of CNM for correcting the results of the bioluminescent assay was also developed. It was shown that the inhibitory activity of CNM on Red + Luc decreased in the following order: MWCNT SWCNT C(60)HyFn. The soluble enzyme system Red + Luc had high sensitivity to MWCNT and SWCNT, with values of the inhibition parameter IC50 equal to 0.012 and 0.16 mg/L, respectively. The immobilised enzyme system was more vulnerable to C(60)HyFn than its soluble form, with an IC50 equal to 1.4 mg/L. Due to its technical simplicity, rapid response time and high sensitivity, this bioluminescent method has the potential to be developed as a general enzyme inhibition-based assay for a wide variety of nanomaterials.

Аннотация: A new method for assessing biotoxicity of nanomaterials, based on the use of soluble bioluminescent coupled enzyme system NAD(P)ai...H:FMN oxidoreductase and luciferase, is proposed. The results of this study indicate a significant adverse biological effect exerted by nanoparticles at the molecular level. It was found that the most toxic nanoparticles the nanoparticles are based on copper and copper oxide, as well as single-walled carbon nanotubes and multi-walled carbon nanofibers, which are referred to hazard class II.

Аннотация: Detonation nanodiamonds (NDs) were deposited on the surface of aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by immersing a CNT array in an aqueous suspension of NDs in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The structure and electronic state of the obtained CNT-ND hybrid material were studied using optical and electron microscopy and Infrared, Raman, X-ray photoelectron and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. A non-covalent interaction between NDs and CNT and preservation of vertical orientation of CNTs in the hybrid were revealed. We showed that current-voltage characteristics of the CNT-ND cathode are changed depending on the applied field; below similar to 3 V/mu m they are similar to those of the initial CNT array and at the higher field they are close to the ND behavior. Involvement of the NDs in field emission process resulted in blue luminescence of the hybrid surface at an electric field higher than 3.5 V/mu m. Photoluminescence measurements showed that the NDs emit blue-green light, while blue luminescence prevails in the CNT-ND hybrid. The quenching of green luminescence was attributed to a partial removal of oxygen-containing groups from the ND surface as the result of the hybrid synthesis.

Аннотация: Detonation nanodiamond powders produced by different manufacturers were surface modified to reduce the amount of surface impurities and impart to the particles a high colloidal stability in aqueous suspensions. Modified DNDs (MDNDs) were separated into fractions and evaluated by the zeta potential, particles size distribution and elemental composition. MDNDs retain colloidal stability after the hydrosols are dried and the resulting powders are resuspended. Sedimentation stability and fraction composition are proposed as parameters for standardization of commercial nanodiamonds. © 2015 Copyright © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Аннотация: We report on the polarization dependence of the optical limiting and nonlinear light scattering in nanodiamond clusters suspended in distilled water. The nanosecond Z-scan measurements at a wavelength of 532 nm reveal that the nonlinear transmittance of the suspension is independent of polarization, while the energy of the light pulses scattered at 90 deg shows a cosine-like dependence on the polarization azimuth of the incident beam. Moreover, the ratio of the energies of the vertically and horizontally polarized scattered pulses is a nonmonotonous function of the input fluence. The obtained results can be explained in terms of the change of scattering center size under the laser action and are in agreement with the predictions of the Rayleigh-Mie scattering theory. Аннотация: The results of experimental studies of optical power limiting (OPL) and nonlinear light scattering (NLS) at a wavelength of 532 nm in suspensions of detonation-synthesis modified nanodiamonds (MNDs) with different grain-size compositions are described. It is found that, at the same nanoparticle concentration, OPL and NLS are more efficient in suspensions with large MNDs. It is shown that MND suspensions can exhibit a stable long-term operation as OPL in a field of laser pulses with a power density of 0.2 GW/cm(2) at a repetition frequency of 1 Hz.

Аннотация: The nonlinear scattering of light under the conditions of optical limiting of nanosecond pulsed laser radiation at a wavelength of 1064 nm in a nanodiamond (ND) hydrosol has been experimentally studied. Superstable hydrosols were obtained from detonation NDs with a modified surface. Using an improved scheme of z scanning, it is shown that a decrease in the optical transmission coefficient of an ND hydrosol under optical limiting conditions is due to enhanced nonlinear scattering. It is established that the energy of pulsed radiation scattered at a right angle obeys a power law in dependence on the energy density of incident radiation pulses. Hydrosols of detonation NDs with the modified surface exhibit high stability with respect to the periodic laser action at high power density.

Аннотация: The addition of metallic Ir and Pt to a fullerene-forming, atmospheric-pressure plasma reactor was found to influence the generation of carbonaceous products. It was observed that the added metals were efficiently dispersed into the plasma and that their presence increased the yield of fullerenes. The addition of Ir led to a noticeable shift in the fullerene distribution towards C-60, whereas the addition of Pt increased the proportion Of C-60 oxides and decreased the proportion of higher fullerenes. Addition of Ir also caused a reduction of the soot particle size and the formation of a considerable quantity of carbon nanotubes.

Аннотация: The properties of field electron emission for diamond/pyrocarbon nanocomposites produced from diamond particles surrounded by a pyrocarbon matrix were studied. Low-threshold emissions at fields of ?1 V/?m with no activation or hysterisis in the current versus voltage (I/V) behaviour were observed for the materials. Scanning tunneling-field emission microscopy was used to study the mechanisms of low-field electron emission from the composites, and a model based on quantum well effect at the diamond/graphite interface was proposed and discussed.

Аннотация: In this work, the products accompanying fullerene and metallofullerene synthesis in a carbon plasma jet are briefly characterized. It is shown that in the thermolysis residual there are multiwall nanotubes and turbostatic graphite. Nickel was introduced into carbon plasma, several kinds of magnetic clusters are formed which were studied by the EPR method.
