Аннотация: Spectral radiance and reflectance of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir water surface were studied from 1974 until 1989, Spectral brightness coefficient (SBC) curves have been found to record chlorophyll absorption band in the red part of the spectrum lambda = 680 nm and spectral indices of "yellow matter" absorption in the short-wave part lambda = 400-500 nm, Blue-green algae SEC curves record phycocyanine absorption peak at lambda(max) = 630 mm. Аннотация: The use of relative variable fluorescence (RVF) of chlorophyll, as measured in the presence of Diuron, an inhibitor of electron transfer, for the estimation of the photosynthetic activity of plankton microalgae was analyzed under a wide range of light intensities in the PAR region. Oxygen evolution rates (estimated by the method of light and dark bottles and the amperometric method), RVF, and chlorophyll a concentration were measured in parallel in natural algal cenoses and microecosystems. When the previously used regression equation, in the form A = b(DeltaF/F-d)CchlI, where A is O-2 evolution rate (g/(m(3) h), DeltaF/F-d is RVF (relative units), C-chl is chlorophyll a concentration (mg/m(3)), and I is light intensity (W/m(2)), was verified in the PAR region, we observed a nonlinear dependence of the correction coefficient b on I, which can be described by the formula b = 6.227 x 10(3)rootI. This result agrees with the hypothesis that chlorophyll a fluorescence quenching comprises photochemical (qQ) and energy (qE) components. On the basis of the energy model, we determined the upper limit b(max) = 0.003 for light intensity range I 4.4 W/m(2) and the lower limit b(min)

Аннотация: To preserve and utilize the biosphere it is imperative that we understand the long-term dynamics of the primary production process on our planet. Variability of chlorophyll concentration in the ocean is one of the most important components of this process. However, size and access make its investigation labour-intensive. Dependence of primary production on high variability of hydrophysical phenomena in the ocean (fluctuations of currents, frontal zones, etc.) makes it difficult to locate points to measure chlorophyll concentration dynamics. To locate such quasistationary zones with respect to seasonal dynamics of chlorophyll concentration by satellite data the Institute of Biophysics (Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch) has developed a geoinformation system. II use made it possible to locate such zones over the entire ocean. The work shows zones on the Central and Northern Atlantic. They form the ground to analyse perennial dynamics of chlorophyll concentration. The quasistationary zones are proposed for systematic monitoring of phytopigment concentration by space-borne and marine craft. (C) 1998 COSPAR. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.

Аннотация: Additional chlorophyll fluorescence oscillations were recorded during the photoinduction period of rapid and delayed fluorescence of different age wheat leaves. These oscillations accompanied basic typical course of induction curves. Oscillations had regular character. The frequency and amplitude of oscillations changed in induction period. Take note of coincidence of fluorescence oscillation frequency band with configurational oscillational frequencies of isolated chloroplasts.

Аннотация: The slow fluorescence induction produced iii cucumber leaves by light in the range of wavelengths 380-540 nm and intensity of 180 W/m(2) was studied. The ratio of fluorescence maxima in the red region (F(734)/F(682)) in young and mature leaves was approximately 2. It is assumed that this value depends on an increase in the contribution of the long-wavelength fluorescence due to the spillover effect. In plants grown under natural conditions, the paramster F(734)/F(682) correlated with the concentrations of chlorophyll and carotenoids. In plants grown hi the light of red and blue regions no such correlation was observed and the F(734)/F(682) remained unchanged. It is concluded that the F(534)/F(682) is affected by the intensity and spectral composition of exciting light used during the growing.

Аннотация: The new data on anomalies in seasonal dynamics of chlorophyll concentration in the ocean have altered the approach to the analysis of long-term trends of phytopigments in the surface layer of the ocean. Zones have been found in which at various times there was a many-fold increase in chlorophyll concentration versus its usual level. These changes are local in time and space. If anomalies in the. long-term tendencies in the change of phytopigment surface distribution in the ocean are ignored in the analysis, the resulting picture will inadequately reflect the real processes. The work presents the results of the analysis of long-term trends of chlorophyll concentration on the basis of the CZCS satellite data in the Atlantic Ocean. The results are given as maps representing different variants of trends. The data obtained can be used to analyze the consequences of long-term changes of climate and changes in the interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean. (C) 2002 COSPAR. Аннотация: The work-presents long-standing CZCS-satellite-based data about spatial distribution of anomalies in chlorophyll concentration and temperature of the ocean. An anomaly criterion is proposed. Maps of Atlantic ocean areas with elevated probability of anomalies are given. Properties of anomalous zones in different parts of the Atlantic ocean are discussed. Satellite-based maps of anomaly coefficients for chlorophyll concentration and temperature in the Atlantic ocean have been shown to feature substantial differences, the zones of elevated anomaly of chlorophyll concentration and temperature - to be close only in the vicinity of the Amazon outflow into the Atlantic ocean. Along with fundamental knowledge about dynamics of biological phenomena in the ocean the methods described may be used to reveal deviations due to anthropogenic impact. The methods presented may be used to process SeaWiFS program data. The data derived may be used to analyze long-standing time series to estimate randomness of current changes. (C) 2002 COSPAR. Аннотация: In the periods of summer and autumn bloom of the Stephanodiscus hantzschii Crun. in recreational water bodies, studies on the vertical distribution of chlorophyll a, its contents per unit biomass, efficiency in using photosynthetically active radiation (E-PhAR), and assimilative activity of microalgae were performed. The results confirmed the existence of two ecophysiological forms of St. hantzschii and provided evidence that both forms are typically autotrophic and can efficiently use low-intensity PhAR for photosynthesis.

Аннотация: The age-related changes in the temperature dependence curves (TDC) of chlorophyll fluorescence were studied in leaf segments of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.), and cucumber (Cucumis sativum L.) plants grown under controlled photoculture conditions. Three major TDC patterns of chlorophyll fluorescence were identified within the temperature range of 25-70 degreesC, with each of the patterns corresponding to a certain phase of leaf development. The transition from one type of thermogram to another was a gradual and ordered process. The magnitude of the low-temperature TDC peak increased until leaves completely expanded and declined with leaf senescence. In the course of leaf senescence, the thermograms exhibited an additional shoulder, which further changed into a peak at 55-65 degreesC with increasing magnitude. Our data provide the basis for assessing leaf age from the type of chlorophyll fluorescence thermogram and the changes in the particular indices characteristic of TDC of chlorophyll fluorescence.

Аннотация: The circadian rhythm of grazing of microalgae by a laboratory culture of Ceriodaphnia quadrangula under continuous illumination was studied by continuous registration of chlorophyll fluorescence at the outlet of a flow-through cultivator. A culture of green alga Chlorella vulgaris was used as a feed. The data obtained were treated by the statistical spectral analysis. It was found that animals preliminarily grown under a 12 h light : 12 h dark regime and transferred to constant light showed two maxima in the circadian rhythm of grazing with periods of 0.7 and 1.1 h. Animals preliminarily grown under constant light showed no circadian rhythm of grazing. It was concluded that the circadian rhythm of grazing of C quadrangula has endogenous nature and can change according to light conditions.

Аннотация: The use of mineralized human wastes as a basis for nutrient solutions will increase the degree of material closure of bio-technical human life support systems. As stress tolerance of plants is determined, among other factors, by the conditions under which they have been grown before exposure to a stressor, the purpose of the study is to investigate the level of tolerance of chufa (Cyperus esculentus L.) plant communities grown in solutions based on mineralized human wastes to a damaging air temperature, 45 degrees C. Experiments were performed with 30-day-old chufa plant communities grown hydroponically, on expanded clay aggregate, under artificial light, at 690 mu mol m(-2) s(-1) PAR and at a temperature of 25 degrees C. Plants were grown in Knop's solution and solutions based on human wastes mineralized according to Yu.A. Kudenko's method, which contained nitrogen either as ammonium and urea or as nitrates. The heat shock treatment lasted 20 h at 690 and 1150 mu mol m(-2) s(-1) PAR. Chufa heat tolerance was evaluated based on parameters of CO2 gas exchange, the state of its photosynthetic apparatus (PSA), and intensity of peroxidation of leaf lipids. Chufa plants grown in the solutions based on mineralized human wastes that contained ammonium and urea had lower heat tolerance than plants grown in standard mineral solutions. Heat tolerance of the plants grown in the solutions based on mineralized human wastes that mainly contained nitrate nitrogen was insignificantly different from the heat tolerance of the plants grown in standard mineral solutions. A PAR intensity increase from 690 mu mol m(-2) s(-1) to 1150 mu mol m(-2) s(-1) enhanced heat tolerance of chufa plant communities, irrespective of the conditions of mineral nutrition under which they had been grown. Аннотация: Using mathematical modeling methods, the work investigates possible existence of a phytoflagellate population in the ecosystem of a stratified lake (Lake Shira, Khakasia, Russia). Until this study was carried out, no phytoflagellate population had been detected in the lake, although there had been indirect evidence of the possible presence of a cryptomonad population in this water body. To answer the question if this population may be present in this water body, as the first step of investigation, a mathematical model was developed describing the microorganism biomass dynamics and phytoflagellate relationship with the lake food web. The calculations showed that cryptophytic algae were abundant in the water column layers above the lake chemocline at the beginning of summer but showed low biomass concentrations during other periods of time. In the summer following the construction of the model, samples were collected from Lake Shira, as the next step of the study. A cryptophytic algae population was found in the water column, and the pattern of its distribution in the ecosystem was similar to that predicted by the model. In addition to that, we studied theoretically possible reasons for the early summer development of the population in the deep water layers and found that it was the result of the mixotrophic feeding strategy of cryptomonads and trophic interactions in the food web. The study shows that preliminary modeling of the locational and temporal distribution of populations whose presence in the ecosystem is only suggested by indirect evidence may be useful as a tool for searching for the species in natural ecosystems and as an approach enabling a more accurate description of the food web structure of a water body. Аннотация: Additional integral and kinetic parameters of induction curves have been introduced on the basis of analysis of currently employed parameters of slow induction of fluorescence (SIF) for a more complete quantitative description of SIF changes during ontogenesis of higher plant leaves. High sensitivity of the additional parameters to the age state of leaf tissue as compared with previously employed parameters is demonstrated on the example of cucumber leaves (Cucumis sativus L.). Analysis of the relationship between the photosynthetic rate and SIF parameters of separate cucumber leaf disks revealed the presence of a high positive correlation between the photosynthetic rate and the greatest possible average decline in fluorescence intensity during the inductive period for mature regions of the leaf and regions starting to senesce (the correlation coeffcient attained values of 0.95), which indicates the possibility of using the given SIF parameter in further elaboration of methods for estimation of chloroplast photosynthetic activity at the level of the higher plant leaf.
