Аннотация: Сборник посвящен широкому кругу исследований в области экологической биофизики – научного направления на стыке наук – от исследований на молекулярном уровне до вопросов управления большими природными экосистемами. Рассмотрены исторические вехи развития экологического направления биофизики. Основной акцент сборника основан на современных, актуальных достижениях красноярских биофизиков, которым удалось сохранить и развить многоплановые направления, которые были заложены в 50-х гг. ХХ века И. И. Гительзоном. Наряду с обзорными материалами и результатами фундаментальных исследований представлен ряд готовых к внедрению биотехнологий. Аннотация: The effects of elevated temperature (35 and 45В°C) on photosynthesis, respiration, and both the qualitative and quantitative compositions of volatile emissions (VE) of wheat (Triticum aestuvum L. cultivar 232) cenoses at light intensities of 70, 150, or 240 W/m2 of photosynthetically available radiation (PAR) were studied. At a PAR of 240 W/m2, the thermal stabilities of photosynthesis and respiration increased at 35В°C and decreased at 45В°C. Elevated temperatures nonuniformly changed the rates and direction of VE syntheses. In this process, the highest increase in VE evolution was observed at 70 W/m2; the lowest, at 240 W/m2 and 35В°C. In addition, the concentrations and composition of VE during the repair period differed from the initial values.

Аннотация: Obelin from the hydroid Obelia longissima and aequorin are members of a subfamily of Ca2+-regulated photoproteins that is a part of the larger EF-hand calcium binding protein family. On the addition of Ca2+, obelin generates a blue bioluminescence emission (lambda(max) = 485 nm) as the result of the oxidative decarboxylation of the bound substrate, coelenterazine. The W92F obelin mutant is noteworthy because of the unusually high speed with which it responds to sudden changes of [Ca2+] and because it emits violet light rather than blue due to a prominent band with lambda(max) = 405 nm. Increase of pH in the range from 5.5 to 8.5 and using D2O both diminish the contribution of the 405 nm band, indicating that excited state proton transfer is involved. Fluorescence model studies have suggested the origin of the 485 nm emission as the excited state of an anion of coelenteramide, the bioluminescence reaction product, and 405 nm from the excited neutral state. Assuming that the dimensions of the substrate binding cavity do not change during the excited state formation, a His22 residue within hydrogen bonding distance to the 6-(p-hydroxy)-phenyl group of the excited coelenteramide is a likely candidate for accepting the phenol proton to produce an ion-pair excited state, in support of recent suggestions for the bioluminescence emitting state. The proton transfer could be impeded by removal of the Trp92 H-bond, resulting in strong enhancement of a 405 nm band giving the violet color of bioluminescence. Comparative analysis of 3D structures of the wild-type (WT) and W92F obelins reveals that there are structural displacements of certain key Ca2+-ligating residues in the loops of the two C-terminal EF hands as well as clear differences in hydrogen bond networks in W92F. For instance, the hydrogen bond between the side-chain oxygen atom of Asp 169 and the main-chain nitrogen of Arg112 binds together the incoming alpha-helix of loop III and the exiting cc-helix of loop IV in WT, providing probably concerted changes in these EF hands on calcium binding. But this linkage is not found in W92F obelin. These differences apparently do not change the overall affinity to calcium of W92F obelin but may account for the kinetic differences between the WT and mutant obelins. From analysis of the hydrogen bond network in the coelenterazine binding cavity, it is proposed that the trigger for bioluminescence reaction in these Ca2+-regulated photoproteins may be a shift of the hydrogen bond donor-acceptor separations around the coelenterazine-2-hydroperoxy substrate, initiated by small spatial adjustment of the exiting a-helix of loop IV.

Аннотация: For the identification of ecologically significant dominant groups of phytoplanktonic algae a polychromatic DCMU-induced fluorescence method is recommended. A special fluorometer equipped with a system of replaceable filters is used to differentiate three regions of the spectrum (410 +/- 20, 510 +/- 20 and 540 +/- 10 nm) that can excite the basic light-harvesting pigments. Total and differential (for every algal taxon studied) chlorophyll a calculated from the fluorescence signals is in good agreement with biomass estimates from direct cell counts for several different trophic types of aquatic systems. This is made possible by the vizualization of the ratios of fluorescence signal values in their own coordinates: first, to decide whether it is necessary to correct linear equations in order to eliminate negative solutions; second, to determine the possibility of nulling the negative solution if a point is situated close to a side of the triangle; and third, to reduce the number of linear algebraic equations to two if the points are situated along one of the triangle sides or to one if the points are gathered at the apex. The polychromatic DCMU-induced fluorescence method can be used for monitoring natural phytoplankton populations to detect changes in their taxonomic structure.

Аннотация: The localization of the key photoreductive and oxidative processes and some stress-protective reactions within leaves of mesophytic C3 plants were investigated. The role of light in determining the profile of Rubisco, glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, catalase, fumarase, and cytochrome-c-oxidase across spinach leaves was examined by exposing leaves to illumination on either the adaxial or abaxial leaf surfaces. Oxygen evolution in fresh paradermal leaf sections and CO2 gas exchange in whole leaves under adaxial or abaxial illumination was also examined. The results showed that the palisade mesophyll is responsible for the midday depression of photosynthesis in spinach leaves. The photosynthetic apparatus was more sensitive to the light environment than the respiratory apparatus. Additionally, examination of the paradermal leaf sections by optical microscopy allowed us to describe two new types of parenchyma in spinach-pirum mesophyll and pillow spongy mesophyll. A hypothesis that oxaloacetate may protect the upper leaf tissue from the destructive influence of active oxygen is presented. The application of mathematical modeling shows that the pattern of enzymatic distribution across leaves abides by the principle of maximal ecological utility. Light regulation of carbon metabolism across leaves is discussed. В© 2010 Springer-Verlag.

Аннотация: Triploid fish has become an important item of commercial aquaculture, but data on its fatty acid (FA) composition are still controversial, especially regarding essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n-3, EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3, DHA). We studied FA composition and content of diploid and triploid pink salmon Oncorhynchus gorbuscha, reared in aquaculture in a bay of the White Sea (Russia). FA composition, measured as percentages of total FA of triploids and immature diploid females significantly differed from that of mature diploid fish. Specifically, mature diploids had higher percentage of EPA and DHA in their muscle tissue (filets) compared to that of triploids and immature diploid females. Nevertheless, the contents of EPA and DHA per mass of the filets in diploid and triploid specimens were similar. Thus, no special efforts are needed to improve EPA and DHA contents in filets of triploids. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

Аннотация: The trophic transfer efficiency (TTE) is an important indicator of ecosystem functioning. However, TTE data from freshwater food webs are ambiguous due to differences in time scales and methods. We investigated the transfer of essential substances (carbon, nutrients, and polyunsaturated fatty acids) through plankton communities in 30 Polish lakes with different trophic status in the middle of summer. The results of our study revealed that different essential substances were transferred from phytoplankton to zooplankton with varying efficiencies. The average TTE of C, N, P, and the sum of omega-3 PUFA were 6.55%, 9.82%, 15.82%, and 20.90%, respectively. Our results also show a large mismatch between the elemental and biochemical compositions of zooplankton and their food during the peak of the summer stagnation, which may further promote the accumulation of essential substances. There were also large differences in TTEs between trophic conditions, with the highest efficiencies in oligotrophic lakes and the lowest in dystrophic and eutrophic lakes. Therefore, our study indicates that disturbances like eutrophication and dystrophication similarly decrease the TTE of essential substances between phytoplankton and zooplankton in freshwater food webs.

Аннотация: The trophic transfer efficiency (TTE) is an important indicator of ecosystem functioning. However, TTE data from freshwater food webs are ambiguous due to differences in time scales and methods. We investigated the transfer of essential substances (carbon, nutrients, and polyunsaturated fatty acids) through plankton communities in 30 Polish lakes with different trophic status in the middle of summer. The results of our study revealed that different essential substances were transferred from phytoplankton to zooplankton with varying efficiencies. The average TTE of C, N, P, and the sum of ?-3 PUFA were 6.55%, 9.82%, 15.82%, and 20.90%, respectively. Our results also show a large mismatch between the elemental and biochemical compositions of zooplankton and their food during the peak of the summer stagnation, which may further promote the accumulation of essential substances. There were also large differences in TTEs between trophic conditions, with the highest efficiencies in oligotrophic lakes and the lowest in dystrophic and eutrophic lakes. Therefore, our study indicates that disturbances like eutrophication and dystrophication similarly decrease the TTE of essential substances between phytoplankton and zooplankton in freshwater food webs. © 2021 The Authors. Аннотация: Interactions between phytoplankton and zooplankton affect the overall functioning of lakes. Herbivores are habitually confronted with food of inferior quality, usually a result of low nutrient concentrations in plant material. Large-bodied cladocerans are better competitors for food than small-bodied species but they are more vulnerable to low food quality. Understanding the effects of food quality on zooplankton structure and competition between small - large bodied herbivorous is of considerable interest. We want to find out how differences in C:N:P ratios between phytoplankton and zooplankton communities affect their abundances in a freshwater food web. We want also to assess the role of phytoplankton and zooplankton as sinks of the phosphorus and nitrogen. Therefore, we conducted a 31-day mesocosms experiment with water from a mesotrophic and a eutrophic lake (with natural plankton communities). To simulate changes in the plankton communities large-bodied Daphnia magna and Daphnia pulicaria were added. Samples for zooplankton, phytoplankton and water chemistry were taken every 10 days. Samples for elemental analysis (C:N:P) of seston and zooplankton were collected on the first, and on the final day of the experiment. Our mesocosms experiment showed mismatch in C:P between seston (high) and zooplankton (low), which suggests that most of the phosphorus is incorporated in zooplankton biomass. This evidenced that zooplankton is an effective sink of phosphorus, while nitrogen is accumulated mainly by primary producers. Our results also indicated more stability in stoichiometry with increasing trophic levels of organisms. However, there were significant changes in the zooplankton structure. The increasing dominance of large Daphnia resulted in reduction of C:P ratio in zooplankton. Low food quality (C:P) did not limit the growth of large Daphnia in the experimental conditions, which competed effectively with small planktonic cladocerans and with Rotifera. Over time, inedible algae began to dominate resulting in increase of relative biomass of periphyton grazers, which suggests that plankton community is transformed into littoral system in mesocosms for about 30 days. © 2019

Аннотация: The ability to change the reproduction mode and produce diapausing eggs, which is prevalent in many zooplankton species, significantly impacts on the evolution and ecology of aquatic communities. The production of diapausing eggs is controlled by multiple effects of biotic and abiotic factors, including infochemicals. We have investigated the effects of chemicals exuded by conspecifics and ecologically close competing congers, Moina brachiata and M. macrocopa, which coexist in the same water body, and by larger Cladocera species (Daphnia magna) on the change of reproduction mode, specific growth rate and fecundity of M. brachiata and M. macrocopa females. The production of gametogenetic eggs in both species was detected only in waters from crowded cultures of conspecifics. The water from crowded cultures of conspecifics reduced the specific growth rate of the juvenile females of both species that later switched to gametogenesis. While it either did not affect (in M. macrocopa) or even increase (in M. brachiata) the specific growth rate of the juvenile females that later reproduced by parthenogenesis. Females of M. macrocopa released significantly fewer neonates in the water from crowded cultures of conspecifics than in all other treatments, while the fecundity of M. brachiata females was the same in all treatments. To understand the phenomenon of diapause induction under the effect of chemical cues in zooplankton, a link between laboratory tests and ecological research should be established, and the chemical composition of the signals should be determined. Аннотация: An idea of the general evolution through the long-term response of the Earth to the external flow of radiant energy from the Sun is proposed. Due to the finiteness of matter on Earth, as well as on any other planet, the continuous pumping flow of radiant energy has been shown to lead to cyclization of transformations and mass transfer along the emerging gradients. The evolution of the energy–matter interaction follows the pathway of capturing and transferring more energy by a smaller quantity of matter, i.e., the pathway of the increase in the amount of energy used by each unit mass. According to this parameter, the least effective mass transfer is a simple transfer as vortices of gases along the gradients of temperature and pressure, which took place on the primary surface of the planet. Long-term natural selection towards water accumulation on the planet has played a special role in the development of the interaction between energy and matter. Phase transitions (ice, water, and vapor) and mechanical transfers are the most common energy–matter processes. Chemical transformation of substances became possible based on water cycles, cyclic transfers, and transformations and developed with time into biological transformation. This type of energy–matter interaction is the most efficient. In particular, the energy of our star is captured during photosynthesis and utilized in the most active region of its radiation spectrum. During the biological evolution of heterotrophs, a increase in the coefficient that characterizes the energy exchange intensity from protozoa to mammals by several hundred times is most illustrative. The development and current dominance of humans as the species that is most active in the capturing of energy and meaningful organization of its new flows, in particular, based on the organic debris of former biospheres, is amazing but quite natural from the energy standpoint. During the technological evolution of humankind, the energy-exchange intensity for homoiotherms (warm-blooded animals) has increased by 20 times if it is recalculated for the technological energy that is used by the average inhabitant of the Earth. Thus, the victory of our species in planetary evolution fits well into the mainstream of the general evolution through energy–matter interactions: a multiple increase in star energy has been used to transform the matter on the surface of the irradiated planet. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Аннотация: A model consisting of two blocks (equations) was proposed for the analytical, study of the biosphere-climate system over great periods of time. The first equation describes the balance of carbon dioxide in the Atmosphere and re presents the biological block of the model. The second equation is the equation of the energy balance or the physical block of the system. The model is based on the most general conceptions of living matter and the evolution process. A possible interpretation of some events and phenomena in the earth history in terms of the model is given.

Аннотация: This paper is devoted to the comparative stude of redundancy of genetic texts of various organisms and viruses. To determine the tedundance of a gene, we have introduced the strict measure for that latter. The measure for a text's redundance is the length of restriction of Frequence/Correlation Dictionary of a given genetic text. Frequence/Correlation Dictionary is the ser of all subsequences belang to a given genetic text, accompanied by the frequencies of their occurrence. The restriction length is defined as that one, for which all the subsequences (of that length) are unique. We have found, that genes of human viruses are less redundant, in comparison to those of human genes. Other aspects of a comparative redundance invastigations of the genes are discussed. The problem of the determination of truet intron could be treated by this methodology, as well, as the evolution of genome.

Аннотация: Genetic diversity and colonization routes of noble salmons were studied using a partial nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrialCOIgene. The brown troutS. trutta,which is the most ancient species of the genus, was concluded to originate from the modern southeastern Pontic-Caspian area, which is currently inhabited by members of the subspeciesS. trutta oxianus. Migrating westward while the Paratethys was in existence (5-34 million years ago), species of the genus colonized ancient water bodies in the modern Mediterranean basin and formed many isolated populations that survived desiccation of the Mediterranean Sea (5-6 million years ago). The Strait of Gibraltar mediated brown trout migrations to Northern Europe; the subspeciesS. trutta truttabelongs to a relatively young phylogenetic lineage of the species. A separate brown trout lineage, currently classified as the subspeciesS. trutta labrax,formed most likely in the area of the modern Danube basin, which was a relatively separate part of the Paratethys and was sometimes isolated as the Pannonian Lake. A highly divergent phylogenetic lineage of Atlantic salmon (S. salar) haplotypes originates from a haplotype of the brown trout that inhabited the area of the modern Strait of Gibraltar.
