Ключевые слова (''Своб.индексиров.''): soil organic matter--continual model of soil--soil formation
Аннотация: The study proposes a model of transformation and decomposition of soil organic matter, based on using the rate of matter transformation as a continual scale of its transformation degree. The model is represented by one partial derivative differential equation that has an analytical solution. This model has only two adjustable parameters, while the number of experimentally determined parameters depends on how detailed the description of the plant litter is supposed to be. The model has been tested, and model parameters have been evaluated by comparing model predictions with the literature data on the stock of soil organic matter in different types of ecosystems. Аннотация: The development of inexpensive, easy-to-produce, and easy-to-use analytical tools for detection of harmful and toxic substances is a relevant research problem with direct applications in environmental monitoring and protection. In this work, we propose a novel composite material based on alumina nanofibers and detonation nanodiamonds for detection of phenol in aqueous medium. The composite material was obtained by mixing an aqueous suspension of alumina nanofibers with a diameter of 10-15 nm and a length of several microns and a hydrosol of nanodiamonds with an average cluster size of 70 nm. The mechanisms underlying the interaction of these nanomaterials are clarified and the physicochemical properties of the composite are investigated. The SEM and TEM studies show that the obtained composite has a network structure, in which clusters of nanodiamonds (10-20 nm in diameter) are distributed over the surface of nanofibers. Coupling of nanomaterials occurs due to opposite signs of their zeta potentials, which results in electrostatic attraction and subsequent chemical bonding as indicated by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and simultaneous thermal analysis. The bonding apparently occurs between functional groups (mainly carboxyl) on the surface of nanodiamonds and amphoteric hydroxyl groups on the surface of alumina nanofibers. The proposed composite allows an easy-to-perform colorimetric analysis for qualitative and quantitative determination of phenol in aqueous samples with linear response over a wide range of concentrations (0.5-106 mu M). Multiple tests have shown that the composite is reusable and retains its catalytic function for at least 1 year during storage at room temperature.

Аннотация: Upcoming professional sports authorities seek rapid noninvasive biosensing tools for regular monitoring of athletes' physiological states. The analysis of saliva through luminescence-based biosensors has been perceived as a suitable candidate for such purposes. The present study reports a qualitative bioluminescence assay based on a coupled enzyme system that consists of bacterial luciferase (BLuc) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH):flavin mononucleotide (FMN) oxidoreductase (Red), BLuc-Red, for the express diagnostics of athletes' stress levels before and after physical exertion. The volunteers who participated in the study were grouped as freestyle wrestlers and students who adapted to different levels of physical activities. Under physical exertion modelling conditions, the influence of participant saliva on BLuc-Red catalyzed light emission was investigated. Results showed a significant increase in residual luminescence (I-exp, mean maximum bioluminescence intensity of the experimental measurement (I-exp); I-c, luminescence intensity in control; I-exp/I-c, %) values for participants in the wrestler group while a decrease in the student group (P 0.05). Such contrasting residual luminescence values in both groups were found to be dependent on the catalase activity of saliva. The proposed bioluminescence assay can be utilized as a potential nonspecific biosensing tool for determining the physical state of athletes under high loads.

Ключевые слова (''Своб.индексиров.''): phytoflagellates--meromictic lake--simulation modeling--lake shira
Аннотация: Using mathematical modeling methods, the work investigates possible existence of a phytoflagellate population in the ecosystem of a stratified lake (Lake Shira, Khakasia, Russia). Until this study was carried out, no phytoflagellate population had been detected in the lake, although there had been indirect evidence of the possible presence of a cryptomonad population in this water body. To answer the question if this population may be present in this water body, as the first step of investigation, a mathematical model was developed describing the microorganism biomass dynamics and phytoflagellate relationship with the lake food web. The calculations showed that cryptophytic algae were abundant in the water column layers above the lake chemocline at the beginning of summer but showed low biomass concentrations during other periods of time. In the summer following the construction of the model, samples were collected from Lake Shira, as the next step of the study. A cryptophytic algae population was found in the water column, and the pattern of its distribution in the ecosystem was similar to that predicted by the model. In addition to that, we studied theoretically possible reasons for the early summer development of the population in the deep water layers and found that it was the result of the mixotrophic feeding strategy of cryptomonads and trophic interactions in the food web. The study shows that preliminary modeling of the locational and temporal distribution of populations whose presence in the ecosystem is only suggested by indirect evidence may be useful as a tool for searching for the species in natural ecosystems and as an approach enabling a more accurate description of the food web structure of a water body. Аннотация: The proposed elementary mathematical model of formation and decomposition of soil organic matter (SOM) is based on using equations of chemical kinetics to describe the multistage process of SOM transformation. The model both describes each step of transformation in accordance with the law of mass action and postulates the trend of increasing stability of the matter towards further transformation, which is common for all steps. Analysis of the model demonstrates that it is extremely difficult to construct a realistic model of SOM dynamics by assembling elementary models of the type presented in this study into the full description of SOM transformation processes. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

Аннотация: Since almost any waste recycling requires non-zero resources, almost any technology exerts non-zero impact on the biosphere. Therefore, there is an objective of finding technological configuration providing a minimal harmful effect on the biosphere. Correct assessment of the harmful effect requires as broad a framework of consideration as possible. A comparison of ecological impacts of gasoline and electric vehicles was conducted as an example of applying this approach. The contribution of technological processes involved into production, usage, and disposal of vehicles was taken into account. Comparison of the total environmental impact of the vehicles has led to a result that differs radically from widely distributed points of view about the environmental benefits of electric vehicles. It indicates that the use of the proposed approach can significantly change perceptions about the environmental and economic efficiency of various industrial products and processes. Аннотация: This work describes avenues to use satellite information to analyse dynamic processes in aquatic ecosystems. Information for this analysis, was retrieved from AVHRR satellite sensor data. This information consisteds of time series of images of radiation temperature and turbidity. We expect this information will be of great value in analysing inland water bodies. Methods to process satellite information using original software and data processing techniques are proposed. For the investigation of the process and analyses of satellite information Shira Lake (Khakasia, Siberia) was used as a case study. To study the variability of the surface temperature and turbidity of the Lake in summer, the satellite and ground-truth data of the lake was applied. This study represents the first evaluation of the dynamic processes for Lake Shira based on satellite, ground-truth and modelling data. We developed algorithms and software to process satellite images to enable the reconstruction of time dependence of temperature and spectral reflectance of water bodies in the visible range, and to make computer-animated films visualising the spatial and temporal dynamics of the study parameters. The analyses of morphometric, meteorological and hydrological characteristics of Lake Shira have provided a realistic opportunity for processing the satellite information and to develop numerical models of variability of the hydrological regime of the lake. The results obtained demonstrate the feasibility of systematically retrieving the spatial information from the satellite data on the dynamics of the surface water temperature and of the suspended matter in the lake.

Аннотация: A large number and wide variety of lake ecosystem models have been developed and published during the past four decades. We identify two challenges for making further progress in this field. One such challenge is to avoid developing more models largely following the concept of others ('reinventing the wheel'). The other challenge is to avoid focusing on only one type of model, while ignoring new and diverse approaches that have become available ('having tunnel vision'). In this paper, we aim at improving the awareness of existing models and knowledge of concurrent approaches in lake ecosystem modelling, without covering all possible model tools and avenues. First, we present a broad variety of modelling approaches. To illustrate these approaches, we give brief descriptions of rather arbitrarily selected sets of specific models. We deal with static models (steady state and regression models), complex dynamic models (CAEDYM, CE-QUAL-W2, Delft 3D-ECO, LakeMab, LakeWeb, MyLake, PCLake, PROTECH, SALMO), structurally dynamic models and minimal dynamic models. We also discuss a group of approaches that could all be classified as individual based: super-individual models (Piscator, Charisma), physiologically structured models, stage-structured models and trait-based models. We briefly mention genetic algorithms, neural networks, Kalman filters and fuzzy logic. Thereafter, we zoom in, as an in-depth example, on the multi-decadal development and application of the lake ecosystem model PCLake and related models (PCLake Metamodel, Lake Shira Model, IPH-TRIM3D-PCLake). In the discussion, we argue that while the historical development of each approach and model is understandable given its 'leading principle', there are many opportunities for combining approaches. We take the point of view that a single 'right' approach does not exist and should not be strived for. Instead, multiple modelling approaches, applied concurrently to a given problem, can help develop an integrative view on the functioning of lake ecosystems. We end with a set of specific recommendations that may be of help in the further development of lake ecosystem models. В© 2010 The Author(s).

Аннотация: A concept is formulated on ecological and biophysics as a scientific discipline which studies physical processes and phenomena resulting from the functioning of live supra-organism systems. Three main directions of ecological biophysics are defined: creation of methods of monitoring ecosystems on the basis of probing biophysical fields (fields of bioluminescence and fluorescence); mathematical and physical modelling; and study of the role of live organisms in hydrophysical processes on the ecosystem scale. Examples are given of the realization of the ecologo-biophysical approach in research into the ecosystems of the world ocean, Lake Baikal and the Dnieper and Yenisei reservoirs. В© 1994.

Ключевые слова (''Своб.индексиров.''): climate shifts--enso variability--pause in global warming
Аннотация: In this study we used HadCRUT4 monthly mean near surface temperature anomalies for 1950–2014 years in order to investigate properties of recent warming. Our aim was to separate changes produced by short-term natural variations and to look on temporal and spatial dynamics of residual temperature anomalies. For this we subtract linear influence of El Nino Southern Oscillation from each grid box of surface temperature measurements. We found that residual global temperature dynamics looks like staircase function: linear trends for three quasi-stable periods 1950–1987, 1988–1997 and 1998–2014 are near zero and near all warming occurred during two shifts of 1987/1988 and 1997/1998 years. Examples of similar staircase behavior of some climate parameters were found in NCEP/NCAR and NASA MERRA reanalysis data. Staircase signal suggests the existence of some regulation mechanism in climate system. This mechanism should maintain global temperature adjusted for El Nino Southern Oscillation near stable in 1950–1987, 1988–1997 and 1998–2014 periods nevertheless all the time growing forcing due to anthropogenic greenhouse gases. © 2015, Korean Meteorological Society and Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

Аннотация: An individual-based model of cyclic development of Cladocera populations was developed on the basis of experimental data. The model takes into account the following processes describing the development of an individual animal: maturation, transition into other reproductive classes, selection of the reproduction mode (parthenogenetic or gamogenetic), release of parthenogenetic progeny and death. The model assumes that switching from asexual to sexual reproduction is controlled by the concentration of food and metabolic by-products of the animal population. Verification of the model by independent experiments demonstrated that (1) during population growth, metabolic by-products build up in the medium, and (2) the effect of metabolic by-products on gamogenesis induction depends on concentration. The hypothesis that the effect of regulating reproductive switching factors should synchronise the development of population with the change of environmental conditions in order to ensure production of the maximum number of diapausing eggs was tested. It is shown that combination of regulating reproductive switching factors maximises the production of diapausing eggs. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Аннотация: Difficulties in estimating terrestrial ecosystem CO2 fluxes on regional scales have significantly limited our understanding of the global carbon cycle. We present a method of using tall-tower-based CO2 concentrations for estimating CO2 fluxes over a forested region. With long-term measurements of the CO2 mixing ratio at a 300-m-tall tower, regional CO2 fluxes were estimated for several months, from the first obtained data. Estimates of a monthly-integrated surface CO2 flux over the region were obtained by the analysis of average gradients and estimates of the rate of vertical mixing between the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and the free troposphere. For the comparison of the ABL budget method and field measurements a zero-dimensional mathematical model of the ecosystem of Siberian boreal forests was used. The model is a system of ordinary differential equations with additional conditions superimposed on the parameters. The main occurring processes are described - photosynthesis, respiration, seasonal changes of active phytomass, water balance of trees, the influence of light, humidity, and temperature on photosynthesis and respiration. Аннотация: The possibility of introducing genetically engineered microorganisms (GEM) into simple biotic cycles of laboratory water microcosms was investigated. The survival of the recombinant strain Escherichia coli Z905 (Ap(r), Lux+) in microcosms depends on the type of model ecosystems. During the absence of algae blooming in the model ecosystem, the part of plasmid-containing cells E.coli decreased fast, and the structure of the plasmid was also modified. In conditions of algae blooming (Ankistrodesmus sp.) an almost total maintenance of plasmid-containing cells was observed in E.coli population. A mathematics model of GEM's behavior in water ecosystems with different level of complexity has been formulated. Mechanisms causing the difference in luminescent exhibition of different species are discussed, and attempts are made to forecast the GEM's behavior in water ecosystems.

Аннотация: In 2002, a "top-down" biomanipulation (reduction of biomass of planktivorous fish Carassius auratus) had been successfully carried out in a small reservoir of the river Bugach (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), after which the cyanobacterial blooming ceased. However, the reservoir ecosystem was absolutely free of Daphnia - the main link of trophic cascade. As supposed, the reduction of blooming was the result of suppression of a direct stimulation effect of planktivorous fish on cyanobacteria, revealed earlier in laboratory experiments. The question arose as to whether the effect of stimulation of cyanobacteria revealed in laboratory may lead to the changes in biomass of cyanobacteria in the reservoir, observed after the biomanipulation. To test this supposition, a mathematical model describing growth of cyanobacteria in the reservoir was developed. The modelling results and field data on biomass of cyanobacteria in summer closely coincided. Modelling calculations showed that direct influence of planktivorous fish could cause the second summer peak of water blooming by Microcystis. On the contrary, removal of crucian carp from the reservoir will not affect the level of water blooming caused by cyanobacteria Anabaena, as this species' growth is not stimulated by fish. Аннотация: Forecasting response of the biosphere and regional ecosystems to observed and expected climate change is the fundamental problem with obvious practical significance. Fundamental non-linearity of the climate system and biosphere makes feasible implementing multiple states and threshold processes in the biosphere-climate system (BCS) in response to gradually increasing influence factor (greenhouse gas concentrations growth). Really time series analysis of global temperature and other global and local parameters indicates the presence of abrupt transitions between stationary states. Identification of the switching mechanisms using general circulation models of the atmosphere and the ocean is associated with the obvious difficulties due to their complexity. Understanding the nature of such switches at qualitative level can be achieved by using a conceptual small-scale models. Some variants of possible mechanisms capable of generating these shifts and simultaneously supporting quasi-stationary periods between them are discussed.

Аннотация: Many salt lakes are meromictic, in which the water column is not mixed to the bottom for at least one year. In the stratified lake, the upper (epilimnion) and deep (hypolimnion) layers are distinguished, in which the density gradients are small. Between them is a layer of water (metalimnion), within which the density gradient is great. In the near-bottom layer, hydrogen sulphide accumulates and there is no oxygen. One-dimensional mathematical models are used to determine the dynamics of the vertical thermohaline structure of the salt lake Uchum. Two periods in the annual regime are considered: the period of the absence of the ice cover (IC) and the period with the existence of the IC. The vertical distributions of temperature and water salinity in Lake Uchum have been calculated in different seasons. The results of the calculations are consistent with the data of field measurements.
