Аннотация: A submerged macrophyte of the Yenisei River, Elodea canadensis, was used to study the microdistribution of the artificial radionuclide 241Am among different components of the plant. The total amount of 241Am added to the experimental system was 1850 В± 31 Bq/L. The total amount of 241Am accumulated by the plants was 182 Bq per sample, or 758,333 В± 385 Bq/kg dry mass. It has been found that the major portion of 241Am accumulated by E. canadensis, up to 85%, was bound to solid components of the cells. It is observed that the microdistribution of 241Am within different components of the submerged plant E. canadensis was not uniform. 241Am distribution vary depending on the age of the leaf blades, the state of the cells and morphological features of the plant stem. Аннотация: The biodegradability of oriented fibers made of polyhydroxybutyrate (P(3HB)) and its co-polymer with ?-hydroxyvalerate (P(3HB-co-3HV)) was investigated in buffer solutions and in biological media in vitro and in vivo. The fibers of both polymer types demonstrated resistance to hydrolytic degradation in buffer solutions at 38В°C and pH from 4.5 to 7.0 (for up to 180 days). It has been found that the biodegradation of the fibers in vitro in blood and serum and in vivo is accompanied by weight losses and minor changes in the microstructure with no significant losses in the tensile strength over a long time (up to 180 days). The biodegradation rate of the less crystalline co-polymer P(3HB-co-3HV) fibers was 1.4-2.0-times higher than that of the homopolymer P(3HB). It has also been shown that the degradation of the fibers in vivo is influenced both by tissue fluid enzymes and cells (macrophages and foreign-body giant cells). The fibers were eroded on the surface only with no gross defects and no dramatic effects on their mechanical performance. В© VSP 2005.

Аннотация: Chronic experiments on mature Wistar rats studied the biological properties of suture threads from two types of polyoxyalkanoates (POA), such as polyoxybutyrate (POB) and the copolymer of POB and polyoxyvalerate (POV) (POB/POV) as compared to the conventional surgical material (silk and catgut). The physiological and biochemical parameters that reflect the status of the animals, including their behavior, height and development, the weight of the body and viscera, the morphology of peripheral blood, the biochemical parameters of blood, the activity of some enzymes, as well as histological findings of the viscera, and lymphoid tissue responses were assessed. POA was found to produce no negative effect on the physiological, biochemical, and functional characteristics of the animals irrespective of the duration of contact with the internal medium of the body and of the chemical composition of a material.

Аннотация: Specimens of 14C-labeled polymer of 3-hydroxybutyric acid, P(3-HB), with different initial molecular weights, were used to prepare microparticles, whose morphology was not influenced by the M w of the polymer. During the particle preparation process, P(3-HB) molecular weight decreased by 15-20%. Sterile microparticles (mean diameter 2.4 ?m) were injected into the tail veins of Wistar rats (5 mg/rat). The effects of the particles administered to rats were studied based on the general response of animals and local response of internal organ tissues and blood morphology; no adverse effects on growth and development of the animals or unfavorable changes in the structure of the tissues of internal organs were observed. Measurements of radioactivity in tissues showed that 14C concentrations are different in different organs, changing during the course of the experiment. The main targets for 14C-labeled microparticles were tissues of the liver, spleen, and kidneys. Comparison of radioactivity levels and residual contents of high-molecular-weight matrix in tissues suggested that the most rapid metabolism and degradation of P(3-HB) occurred in the liver and spleen. Gel-permeation chromatography showed that at 3 h after the microparticles were injected into the bloodstream, polymer degradation started in all examined organs, except the lungs; at 12 weeks, the M w of the polymer matrix was as low as 20-30% of its initial value. The presence of high-molecular-weight (undegraded) polymer in the tissues at 12 weeks after administration of the particles suggests that P(3-HB) is degraded in tissues of internal organs slowly and, hence, P(3-HB)-based microparticles can be used as sustained-release drug-delivery systems. Аннотация: We studied how chemicals obtained as filtrates from algal monocultures (algal chemicals) and from rotifer cultures with or without algae (rotifer chemicals) affected feeding rates of the rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus on its food algae, both directly and indirectly (through chemical-induced changes in algal morphology). Algal chemicals had a strong stimulating effect on the feeding rate of B. calyciflorus, but these effects were counteracted by rotifer chemicals. In functional response experiments, rotifer chemicals lowered maximum ingestion rates and had strong effects on assimilation rates and assimilation efficiencies of B. calyciflorus, probably due to the release of unspecific (auto)toxic metabolites. Furthermore, rotifer chemicals induced colony formation in the food alga Scenedesmus obliquus. Above the optimum particle size for ingestion by B. calyciflorus, larger algal colony sizes increased the food-handling time, thus lowering ingestion and assimilation rates. Through their effects on trophic interactions, infochemicals may play a role in structuring and the functioning of aquatic food webs. Аннотация: The anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial community of the brackish meromictic Lake Shira (Khakassia) was investigated in August 2001, July 2002, and February-March 2003. In all the periods of investigation, the prevailing microorganisms were purple sulfur bacteria similar to Lamprocystis purpurea in morphology and pigment composition. Their highest number (3 ? 10 5 cells/ml) was recorded in July 2002 at the depth of 15 m. According to 16S rRNA gene analysis, the strain of purple sulfur bacteria isolated in 2001 and designated ShAm01 exhibited 98.6% similarity to the type strain of Thiocapsa roseopersicina and 97.1-94.4% similarity to the type strains of Tca. pendens, Tca. litoralis, and Tca. rosea. The minor microorganisms of the anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial community within the period of investigation were nonsulfur purple bacteria phylogenetically close to Rhodovulum strictum (98.3% similarity, strain ShRb01), Ahrensia kielensis (of 93.9% similarity, strain ShRb02), Rhodomicrobium vannieli (of 99.7% similarity, strain ShRmc01), and green sulfur bacteria, phylogenetically close to Chlorobium limicola (of 98.7% similarity, strain ShCl03). Аннотация: Manifestation of pleiotropic effects in the isogenic variants of the luminescent bacterium Photobacterium leiognathi 54 was investigated. The decrease or increase of the expression level of bioluminescence was caused by changes in lux operon regulation. The dynamics of the bioluminescence of dark and dim variants did not differ from the dynamics of the initial luminescent variant, but dependence of the level of luminescence intensity on the exogenous autoinducer of the lux operon was revealed. The investigated variants of P. leiognathi 54 inherited fairly stable morphological characteristics, colony architectonics, level of luminescence, and activity of some enzymes; variants with reduced bioluminescence formed colonies of the S type. Stable bright variants with S-and R-type colonies appeared both in the initial strain population and in the dark variant population, but with smaller frequency. Populations of the bright variant with R-type colonies were most heterogeneous; this can be determined by the lack of glucose repression of the bioluminescence in contrast to other investigated inherited variants of P. leiognathi. Аннотация: The paper describes the production and investigation of flexible films made of high-purity polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) - polyhydroxybutyrate [poly-(3HB)] and poly-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-poly-3-hydroxyvalerate [poly(3Hl3-co-3HV)], containing 4-30 mol % hydroxyvalerate. Poly(3HB-co-3HV) films have a more porous structure than poly-(3HB) films, which are more compact, but their surface properties, such as wettability and surface and interface energies, are the same. Sterilisation of the PHA films by conventional methods (heat treatment and gamma-irradiation) did not impair their strength. Cells cultured on PHA films exhibited high levels of cell adhesion. Cell morphology, protein synthesis and DNA synthesis were estimated by extent of H-3-thymidine incorporation into the animal cell cultures of various origins (fibroblasts, endothelium cells, and isolated hepatocytes) in direct contact with PHAs. The investigation showed that this material can be used to make matrices for in vitro proliferous cells. The investigated properties of poly-(3HB) and poly(3HB-co-3HV) films proved to be fundamentally similar. (C) 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers.

Аннотация: The process of electrophoresis/dielectrophoresis of shock-synthesized nanodiamond powders on the large-area Si field emission arrays was studied. The process was found to be very sensitive to the modification of nanodiamond powder. The growth rate and film morphology of nanodiamond coatings on Si tips were investigated. Аннотация: Comparison study data on the hydrochemical parameters, bacterio- and phytoplankton, and reduction-oxidation characteristics of two ponds in Krasnoyarsk are presented. These water bodies are of interest due to the fact that the ecosystems of these natural model objects respond to eutrophication in different ways. It is assumed that the reason for this difference is in the hydrophysical characteristics depending on the morphology of the basins of the water bodies rather than in the hydrochemical characteristics.

Аннотация: Various chronic inflammatory and necrotic processes in the liver parenchyma are accompanied by pathological morphofunctional changes, which are associated with hepatocyte death and hyperplasia of the connective tissue. Regeneration of the liver parenchyma should include not only prevention of fibrosis, but also stimulation of hepatocyte prolifearation. The adrenoceptor agonist dobutamine stimulated proliferative activity of cultured hepatocytes and prevented the development of postintoxication liver cirrhosis in mice produced by chronic poisoning with CCl4.

Аннотация: The phase, dispersive, and morphological features of an aluminum oxide powder produced by explosive synthesis are examined experimentally. It is shown that the particle-size distribution has three distinct maxima, which are due to different combustion regimes. The relationship between the sizes and morphology of the starting powder and the product is determined. Considerable attention is given to a study of the ultrafine fraction of the product powder. The ultrafine particles are shown to have a regular spherical shape, and sinters are not revealed. Besides spherical particles, the synthesized powder contains faceted crystals. X-ray phase analysis of the ultrafine fraction of the synthesized powders shows that this fraction consists only of the metastable phases of the oxide - the delta- or oxynitride modifications. The delta -modification differs from that described in the literature.

Introduction of the E. coli Z905/pPHL7 strain containing a plasmid with luminescent system genes of luminous bacteria led to changes in cell and colony morphology, reduction in metabolic activity of cells, and, as a result, a lower level of expression of cloned gene. A low concentration of nutrients has been shown to favor greatly the phenotypic change of cells of the recombinant strain. Expression of cloned genes changed due to: a lower concentration of plasmid DNA, a change in regulation of cloned genes, and a change in cells of biosynthesis of substrates needed for expression of luminescent genes. The conducted investigations can provide a basis for the use of marker transgenic microorganisms in closed ecosystems of different types. (C) 2001 COSPAR. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. Аннотация: The paper describes the production and investigation of flexible films made of high-purity polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) - polyhydroxybutyrate [poly-(3HB)] and poly-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-poly-3-hydroxyvalerate [poly(3Hl3-co-3HV)], containing 4-30 mol % hydroxyvalerate. Poly(3HB-co-3HV) films have a more porous structure than poly-(3HB) films, which are more compact, but their surface properties, such as wettability and surface and interface energies, are the same. Sterilisation of the PHA films by conventional methods (heat treatment and gamma-irradiation) did not impair their strength. Cells cultured on PHA films exhibited high levels of cell adhesion. Cell morphology, protein synthesis and DNA synthesis were estimated by extent of H-3-thymidine incorporation into the animal cell cultures of various origins (fibroblasts, endothelium cells, and isolated hepatocytes) in direct contact with PHAs. The investigation showed that this material can be used to make matrices for in vitro proliferous cells. The investigated properties of poly-(3HB) and poly(3HB-co-3HV) films proved to be fundamentally similar. (C) 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers.

Аннотация: The problem of how a gradual development of ecological and morphological adaptations combines with large genome rearrangements, which have been found to occur in the phylogeny of many groups of organisms, is a matter of discussion in the literature. The objective of this work was to study the problem with the example of salmonids, whose evolution included at least six events of multiple chromosome fusions. Large karyotype rearrangements are associated with a decrease in ecological and morphological diversity in salmonids. In the above example, genome rearrangements seem to distort the function of the genetic systems that are responsible for the occurrence of certain ecological forms in salmonids. © 2017 by the authors; Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.

Аннотация: A critical analysis of literature data on the distribution, morphology, and phylogeography of the Arctic lamprey (Lethenteron camtschaticum) and five species of marine and anadromous fish such as navaga (Eleginus navaga), pollock (Theragra chalcogramma), rainbow smelt (Osmerus mordax dentex), Pacific herring (Clupea pallasii), and pond smelt (Hypomesus olidus) has been performed. The results show that all these species have colonized Northern European seas, distributing along the Arctic coastline of Eurasia after the glacier retreat. The reasons that the dispersal of these species in the Atlantic Ocean may be impeded (preference for a cold environment, competition, and decrease of the evolutionary potential) are discussed.

Аннотация: The results of a study of the specific features of morphological and genetic polymorphism of the population of the anadromous White Sea common whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus L.) from the Keret' River are presented. As assessed by its morphological features, the whitefish population of the Keret' is homogenous. A comparison of the Keret' whitefish with whitefish populations of both Europe and Siberia revealed clear differences. These differences relate first and foremost to the fish locomotion and orientation in space: body depth, length and positions of fins, and interorbital width. The characteristics of skull features (craniological analysis) of the White Sea whitefish are presented for the first time. The results of an analysis of the polymorphism of the ND1 fragment of the mitochondrial DNA confirmed an earlier suggestion about the mixed origin of the Keret' River whitefish: the descendants of three different phylogenetic lineages were revealed in the population.

Аннотация: We have analyzed the partial sequences of the mitochondrial COI gene along with the amino acid sequences of cytochrome oxidase subunit I, encoded by this gene region, in representatives of 11 genera of salmonoid fish. For amino acid sequences, two alternative networks are constructed with outgroups represented by either Esocoidei or Osmeroidei as the supposed ancestral groups. This way, Osmeroidei appear to be closer to the salmonoid fish than Esocoidei, and their presence in the network as an outgroup explains the available data on the morphology and karyology of salmonoids much better. A number of the results of this study are fundamentally new. In particular, the slowing down of the molecular evolution of the grayling (Thymallidae) is shown. We conclude that the charr (Salvelinus) is one of the modern genera of salmonoids closest to their ancestor. The hypothesis of the phylogenetic proximity of the genera Brachymystax, Hucho, and Salmo has been confirmed. We also discuss the possibility that it is namely the changes in the amino acid sequence of cytochrome oxidase subunit I that lead to postzygotic reproductive isolation between taxa.

Аннотация: The small synanthropic and peregrine earthworm Microscolex phosphoreus (Duges, 1837) is reported for the first time from Siberia. Morphological and DNA barcode (COI) analyses of this and widely separate samples worldwide demonstrate that, as currently identified, M. phosphoreus is a heterogeneous taxon, with divergent lineages occurring often in the same locality and hardly providing geographically structured genetic signals. The combined morphological and genetic evidence suggests that at least four of the found clades should be reclassified as separate species, both morphologically and genetically distinct from each other. However, as the specimen number was limited and only the COI gene was studied for the genetic work, we hesitate in formally describing new species. There would also be the problem of assigning the available names to specific lineages. Our findings encourage careful external and anatomical examination and using reliable characters such as the interchaetal distances and spermathecal morphology for correct identification and for deeper evaluation of cryptic diversity in this interesting bioluminescent worm.
