Аннотация: The new data on anomalies in seasonal dynamics of chlorophyll concentration in the ocean have altered the approach to the analysis of long-term trends of phytopigments in the surface layer of the ocean. Zones have been found in which at various times there was a many-fold increase in chlorophyll concentration versus its usual level. These changes are local in time and space. If anomalies in the long-term tendencies in the change of phytopigment surface distribution in the ocean are ignored in the analysis, the resulting picture will inadequately reflect the real processes. The work presents the results of the analysis of long-term trends of chlorophyll concentration on the basis of the CZCS satellite data in the Atlantic Ocean. The results are given as maps representing different variants of trends. The data obtained can be used to analyze the consequences of long-term changes of climate and changes in the interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean. В©2002 COSPAR. Аннотация: To estimate the seasonal progress of the production process over the planet and its long-standing trend it is important to measure not only the spatial distributions of pigment that represent the rates of photosynthesis but also their time variability. Anthropogenic impact on natural complexes can be efficiently estimated by satellite observations of phytopigment dynamics. This study presents CZCS satellite data processed to reveal spatial inhomogeneity in the seasonal course of chlorophyll concentration in the world ocean on a global scale. Areas with quasistationary and non-stationary seasonal changes in chlorophyll concentration are revealed for the 7.5 years period of CZCS operation. Areas in the world ocean with maximum absolute and relative differences in chlorophyll concentration during different seasons were found. Results are illustrated with a chart of areas in the Atlantic Ocean discerned by dynamic parameters.

Аннотация: An assessment of the species composition, abundance, biomass, and pigment characteristics of phytoperiphyton and phytoplankton of Lake Pyasino, its tributaries (Bezymyannyi Stream, Daldykan, Ambarnaya, and Norilskaya rivers), and the head of the Pyasina River has been carried out after a manmade accident (a diesel-fuel spill near the city of Norilsk in May 2020). A significant decline in the biomass and changes in the species composition of phytoperiphyton after the water was contaminated by fuel is revealed only near the spillage site (in the Daldykan River and the Ambarnaya River downstream the mouth of the Daldykan). Downstream, in the Ambarnaya mouth zone, as a response to the release of a large amount of nutrients during the decomposition of fuel products and dead organisms, as well as the mechanical cleaning of the bank line, there has been a massive growth of diatom and green algae (Tabularia tabulata, Spirogyra sp.) in the water column and the appearance of indicators of organic pollution (Euglenophyceae and Cryptophyceae). No significant changes in the plankton of Lake Pyasino and the Pyasina River in comparison with the data obtained in the second half of the 20th century (i.e., long before the accident) are found. Species composition and quantitative features, as well as amount and ratio of pigments, characterized the phytoplankton and phytoperiphyton of Lake Pyasino and the Pyasina River as a normally functioning freshwater community of oligotrophic waters. All this indicates the absence of a negative impact of the accidental fuel spill on the ecosystem of Lake Pyasino and the Pyasina River.

Аннотация: The effect of light sources with discrete or continuous spectra of red light (50 W/m2, 600-700 nm) on the structural and functional characteristics of chloroplasts were studied in leaves of cucumber (Cucumis sativum L.) plants, which die under strong red light, and pea (Pisum sativum L.) plants, which tolerate red light under the same conditions. Leaf condition was assessed by measuring thermo-and photoinduced changes in the chlorophyll fluorescence yield and the photochemical and photophosphorylating activities of the chloroplasts. Different responses of the pigment apparatus of pea and cucumber plants to red light with continuous or line spectra were revealed. Pea plants responded to discrete-spectrum light by changing P700 content, the ratio of antenna chlorophyll to P700, and the position of the low-temperature peak of the temperature-induced chlorophyll fluorescence yield. In cucumber plants, disturbances in the energy transfer from the short-wavelength pigments to chlorophyll a were observed. In both plants, the effects of line spectrum light on the pigment apparatus were reversible; the ratio of cyclic to noncyclic photophosphorylation, photosynthetic control, and the extent of the coupling of photosynthetic electron transport to photophosphorylation did not change compared to the control light. The need for examining the line spectra of light sources for growing plants under moderate intensities of artificial light (about 50 W/m2 of photosynthetically active radiation) is discussed.

Аннотация: We investigated the influence of blue (BL) and red (RL) light on gas exchange, biochemical composition, pigment content, and productivity in cenoses of radish plants (Raphanus sativa L.). The rates or true photosynthesis and light respiration are lower in RL than in BL, whereas the rate of apparent photosynthesis and productivity of vegetative mass are higher in the former than the latter. Possible causes of the different action of RL and BL on productive activity of radish cenoses are discussed in the paper.

Аннотация: The study estimates morphological properties and levels of extracellular peroxidase activity and light emission of mycelium of the basidiomycete Armillaria borealis IBSO 2328 treated with beta-glucosidase and chitinase. Mycelium incubated with the enzymes shows considerable morphological changes and indications of osmotic shock. Injuries observed in the cell envelope of the fungal hyphae are primarily attributed to the partial (in the beta-glucosidase treatment) or complete (in the chitinase treatment) disintegration of the melanin layer on the surface of the cell wall. Changes in the cell wall of hyphae are accompanied by release of extracellular peroxidases of the fungus into the incubation medium and an increase in light emission relative to the luminescence of the control pellets. We assume that higher level of luminescence of the enzyme-treated mycelium samples could be related to the disintegration of the surface pigment layer of the hyphae and the partial loss of extracellular peroxidases. The data obtained confirm the previously proposed hypothesis in which light producing reaction of the fungus may be an additional way to neutralize active oxygen radicals under stress.

Аннотация: The anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial community of the brackish meromictic Lake Shira (Khakassia) was investigated in August 2001, July 2002, and February-March 2003. In all the periods of investigation, the prevailing microorganisms were purple sulfur bacteria similar to Lamprocystis purpurea in morphology and pigment composition. Their highest number (3 ? 10 5 cells/ml) was recorded in July 2002 at the depth of 15 m. According to 16S rRNA gene analysis, the strain of purple sulfur bacteria isolated in 2001 and designated ShAm01 exhibited 98.6% similarity to the type strain of Thiocapsa roseopersicina and 97.1-94.4% similarity to the type strains of Tca. pendens, Tca. litoralis, and Tca. rosea. The minor microorganisms of the anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial community within the period of investigation were nonsulfur purple bacteria phylogenetically close to Rhodovulum strictum (98.3% similarity, strain ShRb01), Ahrensia kielensis (of 93.9% similarity, strain ShRb02), Rhodomicrobium vannieli (of 99.7% similarity, strain ShRmc01), and green sulfur bacteria, phylogenetically close to Chlorobium limicola (of 98.7% similarity, strain ShCl03).
